With Wuk Lamat, the entire narrative bends to validate her idealism in a way it didn't for anyone else. Everything just always comes up Wuk. It's practically the inverse of Lyse's arc - Lyse thought she was entitled to lead and events proved her wrong. Wuk Lamat thinks she's entitled to lead, and the narrative agrees. This is on top of the fact that the player's role in the narrative is "use your WoL powers to punch Wuk onto the throne, no matter how unsuitable she is", something that should have ended in disaster because she's plainly unfit to rule, and the only reason it doesn't is narrative fiat.
I kept waiting for Wuk to die or nobly sacrifice herself or something. The game shoves her in your face everywhere in DT and tries to make you sympathetic to her so I was guessing they were trying to make you attached to the character. So she'd die and you'd feel bad and give a rousing speech about how Tural has to break with its old ways to deal with modern threats yada yada and Alphinaud could teach them about democracy and working together or whatever.

Nope. Wuk shows up and is like "hey you're strong use your crazy ghost powers to put me on the throne" and you just go do it.

This is why I hate the “Wuk is supposed to be the main character and you’re supposed to be the mentor, stop getting mad the msq doesn’t focus on you anymore!” excuse DT defenders love to pull out every time someone criticizes Wuk’s suffocating presence in the plot. We did jack shit to mentor her. Not once did I feel like I was teaching Wuk anything at all. She just stumbles into success while we punch things and nothing she does feels earned.

Wuk was also severely hurt by the dogshit pacing of the MSQ. They basically had to resolve her character arc at light speed in order to make way for Sphene and their subsequent interactions and the whole Alexandria saga.

She wasn't given enough time to breathe, to make mistakes and learn. We watched her bash her face into problems until they resolved themselves by landing right onto her lap with very little effort on her part and then she suddenly has an epiphany out of nowhere to just improve herself. A single instance of her beating the snot out of Bakool Ja Ja isn't enough. Her interactions with Sphene also did nothing to expand on her character, yet another missed opportunity to build Wuk up further.

I'm also annoyed that the whole deal with her real biological father is swept aside. Besides her giving some vague acknowledgement, she never mentions him again nor cares to make any effort to reconnect with her biological family. That could've also been a great way to give her some character development.

But alas, they needed room for all the Sphenes and Alexandria to basically take Wuk's place in the spotlight and if I'm being honest, I'd rather Wuk have that spotlight than that abomination of a character (endless Sphene).

That was a fun bit of story that went nowhere until the Mamook quests where it was kinda acknowledged in the dumbest way. Kinda like the Pelu Pelu quests that had I think child slavery or something that was just conveniently resolved off screen.

Ngl, I enjoyed the power move of "Yeah my daughter that you guys tried to murder ended up surviving and becoming Dawnservant".
But it goes nowhere after that. He openly reveals that Wuk is his biological kid but it just feels so hollow and stupid to mention that when the story itself doesn't even care about that tidbit.

I swear there was some talk somewhere about the jobs rework being 8.0.

Yeah, there was a statement from the devs to some JP community person about being "aware of issues" with "job identity and function" or something to that extent and that they want to address it. I tried to find it again just now and couldn't but I know it was making rounds on places like the subreddit maybe three weeks ago or so. I can guarantee you didn't just imagine it.

Has there been any talks about job re-balancing lately? I've been curious on Machinist in particular; it was pretty poor last I checked, how is it now? And how are the others?
Its still in about the same place as before the last major patch. BLM got taken out behind the shed and now its just slightly harder to rip aggro on PCT. Most copium is that it'll all be fixed in 8.0
At least you can still use the same opener from the beginning of the expansion.

I kinda wish they'd make it to where you could use multiple weapon types for a Job, like in FF11. Yeah, I know it won't happen, but it's a nice dream, right?
Would've liked this, but unless they booted out The Great Streamliner Yoshi-P and replaced him, not gonna happen, along with stats more interesting than "number go up".

I mained MCH up until stb where they made it really awkward and extra punishing if you ever died for any reason. The Edgar-inspired tools (luv me warcrimes bioblaster) were also cool but it was just never the same after they decided the class would be the 'selfish' one that dropped most of its support tools. Yet, its damage was still awful, and Dancer came along and mogged it into the ground. Sounds like it's no better these days.

Hell, at this point I'd just take something like a Glamour option, frankly; might look broken, but it could still get some use.

Back in my first runthrough of the game, I tried to main MCH my main class as well, or at least my main Ranged option; issue is, I just could never get into it. To be honest, main reason why I tried to like it was because you use a gun for it - yes, I am simple - but MCH just felt awkward compared to my prior Bard and later Dancer options, and I never did get too far with it.

I don't know how you could say "yeah, I want a job rework" after looking at the monk rework, the other monk rework, the third monk rework, the paladin massacre, whatever retarded spastic retardation they gave dragoon, the summoner lobotomy, the astrologist rework, the other astrologist rework, and of course their herculean effort to turn one of the only classes with failstates into perhaps one of the easiest things to play in the entire game, BLM. That's overlooking the countless ways they've dumbed down every other job - even WAR: remember, Overpower used to be a cone.

And of course let's not forget that combos were basically removed as a concept, healers haven't needed to give a shit about mana in an eternity and have neatly had weave windows added in to their 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 "rotations," the number (and impact) of positionals has been greatly reduced, and of course there's the fact that everything has been sanded down to fit into the two-minute meta, such that every class is a little busy for 15 seconds every two minutes and has filler through all the rest while you play some simon-says.

Anyone that thinks they are going to fix the jobs in 8.0, much less ever, is willfully ignoring the last three expansions. The job team has no idea what it's doing, and unless they clean house altogether you're just going to get more of the same. The major complaints with Dawntrail from most of the playerbase concern its atrocious story, and there's an easy scapegoat in Hiroi -- but the more-enfranchised playerbase, bored to fucking tears of this combat being made incredibly shallow, is something that they can overlook ever addressing.

I don't know if they've added any more options but the most "unique" MCH glam they added was that GARO crossover Makai pistol that looked kind of silly since you still held it like a rifle. A dual-pistol stance would've been cool. Honestly, just let me pilot something like the G-Warrior, or a roided-out Queen.

Anyway, I think the game may be at a crossroads. Do they want to keep trying to force the visual novel thing and recapturing the ShB-EW lightning, or do they want to make the gameplay fun since they're awful at balancing anyway? (preferably, it'd be both, but...)

Just wanna play a fun and cool mmo again, lads... seems like the closest is GW2 (which has tons of issues) or private servers for old grindy kMMOs. Or games that are taken up by Amazon then basically aborted/run into the ground immediately in impressive speedrun failures that make 1.0 seem great.

Still a little upset that we never got that "Corsair" idea that people were tossing around pre-Dawntrail; sword + pistol DPS. No idea how it would've worked in FFXIV, but it would've been cool to look at, at least.

If you think Wuk in FFXIV is bad, just wait until you see the "cast" of GW2, particularly the later expansions; woketard shit out the wazoo. Gameplay's solid, but the writing... I dipped after the "girlboss vs. Nazi" shit they had in EoD, and they've only shoved in more genderspecial/"strangwamen" characters in the game since then.

Fork Tower keeps on being the content that gives.
Japanese players have to post lengthy apologies in one of the JP FT Discords if they wipe the raid.

As per this Xeet.

I restate again: Would it have been too much to ask to ALSO release a normal version of shit like this?
What the fuck...
What even is this? What a fucking clown show lmfao

Yeah, stopped paying attention to the story much after the first two expansions because 90% of the characters were insufferable and it was obvious who the writers' pets were, serious case of Milennial Writing that makes you appreciate even the cheesiest Koji Fox dialogue in XIV. I can forgive bad stories as long as the foundation of the lore is solid with things going on without the main character being around, there's a large somewhat meaningful overworld to do stuff in, and the gameplay's decent.
