Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

or it's gonna be going to that bad timeline where we die from the black rose
Yeah I would not be surprised. They kinda mentioned that offhandedly and dropped that arc so it might come back up.

Alternatively, your character died at the end of EW, Zenos possessed your body and is currently fucking up the world and Dawntrail was just your temporary stay in liongirl hell.

Odds are it'll be shadowbringers 2.0, where we use the stupid key to hop between the plains that have an elemental imbalance to bring balance back to them all, if that isn't the xpac I am pretty sure that's going to be the 7.4-5 arc. No idea if thats already progressed since I dropped at 7.25

what would be the worst idea for a new expansion?
Maybe they're desperate enough to go back to first to try and "capture the magic" of shadowbringer again and just have a bunch of REMEMBER THIS!!! moments
There's not a bad idea for an expansion, just bad execution.

Dawntrail, on paper, is fantastic. A break from the multi-dimensional threat scale and 10 year hype to a new area with fun new characters. Your WoL gets a bit of advancement and is now in a mentor role (unless you do some of the crafting quests then this already happens). Some of your former friends become rivals in a race for the throne.

The execution is what ruined it.

That said the single worst possible thing they could do would be to do the FF7-inspired expansion and have it be canon to the FF7 main story line near FF7 Rebirth or Kingdom Hearts the same way.

No. I get that they wanted to lower the stakes. Regardless of execution, that's a shitty idea from a narrative perspective.

Does anyone want to read Lord of the Rings Book IV: Frodo's Beach Adventure?

Hell yeah. What swimsuits do you think all the hot girl elves would wear? Will Frodo and Bilbo remember to bring towels? Do they allow grilling over there or only that shitty bread / salad?

Koji was busy with localization for FFXVI after Shadowbringers, right? Because I remember the jarring shift from shadowbringers to Endwalker when it comes to the characters and how cardboard-like they started feeling. It only got worse when Ishikawa took a backseat after Endwalker.
Koji was on the localization team in EW and ShB too and according to the credits became a supervisor in the post EW patches. DT is the first expansion that’s all Kate with no Koji involvement.

I used to think that having a Kingdom Hearts themed expansion or Alliance Raid would be cool as fuck. Then i started to see how they did the story culminating in Dawntrail and I'm happy Yoshi or whoever hasn't add KH into FF14. If they do, im afraid it would be canon due to the nature of KH.

The purpose of a beach arc in this story would be to establish that you reset the stakes: our heroes took a break, need to come back to work, but whoops! their powers are all gone or otherwise diminished, so they can't just stroll in and slap some jabronies around. Even though these jabronies are really nothing compared to what they went up against before, if you can make the reset feel reasonable or logical-enough, you can reintroduce stakes to a story that blew its load way too early. Or you could play around the idea that the world settled into equilibrium, and now the powers-that-be don't know how to deal with an entity so uniquely powerful as the WoL (or the scions, which was supposed to be the whole hook of their disbanding).

Unfortunately, there was no power-reset for the WoL. There was also no reset for the otherworldly, reality-ending threats. The rest of the world may as well had not exist, being mentioned maybe twice in the entire MSQ. And so as a result, you just have... nonsense? You have a badly-written shounen story where the player is not the protagonist, the protagonist is incompetent, and the guy that blew up god-personified-as-an-asian-female has to get rescued repeatedly by the incompetent protagonist.

Endwalker was going to end the entire planet and every version of the multiverse that we knew of. Quite literally the only way to have higher stakes is to quickly invent new things to lose and venture those which gets really sloppy.

Big stakes are exciting of course, but you can absolutely have a good story with low or normal stakes and if the entire world is constantly in peril it can get stale and boring (see World of Warcraft).

To be fair after EW people were begging for the next expansion to be a lower stakes “vacation” adventure. In fact one of the many big complaints of DT was that people were disappointed that we didn’t get a low stakes vacation expansion and how the second half introduced another world ending threat. I also remember people being excited that the post EW patches were supposedly going to make us just normal adventurers again only to get disappointed when the Void Arc came along.

You can have a fun low stakes expansion, they just handled it poorly.
WoL easily could of taken a backseat advisor role, teaching people to adventure how they used to, acting like the Scions would of in ARR stepping in to save your skin from an Ascian kind of deal, only stepping up when really needed, but instead the WoL gets saved by a stupid orange cat that gets captured by two normal bandits in a fight that should of been their "hold on lemme handle this for a sec" moment. You could ignore all other aspects of the story, but that aspect alone tells you how fucking clueless the writers are.

Took a look at the complete patch notes. Reaper might finally feel ok to play with Enshroud being 5 seconds instead of 15. Also, like how Square started to walk back some of the Picto nerfs and decided to kick Viper in the dick

To me, Void Arc is a giant missed opportunity by itself. What the fuck were they thinking, squeezing in an entire dimension in the post-patch story of EW?

You could have an entire shattered world to explore, but now it's relegated to filler content that was forced to wrap up in 5 patches.

I'm not one of the autists that maths out all the nonsense involved in determining the optimum rotation, but I have parsed orange a few times. Isn't this change just allowing a little more freedom in the 2m burst? Their burst window was already timed to double Enshroud with no downtime in-between.

honestly at this point just have a full on anime beach episode fanservice expansion for xiv
maybe then the mod beasts will play the game

The funniest part of the Job changes for AoE is shown in Viper, MCH and Ninja.
Ninja got insane AoE 100+ potency buffs for no reason, it was already one of the best for AoE's if pulls aligned with their cooldowns, yet Viper is the exact same where as long as the pulls aligned with their 2 min they would nuke, yet their filler got shredded and a general nerf.

The funniest one, was them buffing Mechanists autocrossbow, if you didn't know autocrossbow was actually a potency loss to use for AoE, you'd instead use Doublecheck/Checkmate/Blazing Shot for AoE.

So what did they do to top off that neat autocrossbow buff that would make it a potency gain?

Buffed Doublecheck and Checkmate so the Autocrossbow is still a DPS loss.
lol lmao. These guys do not play their own game.

So it looks like we're
going back to the Ascian well. 'Somehow' Calyx has learnt about primal summoning, and summons Necron, who is the super secret Trial that I think most of us guessed. Calyx is also working for a 'mysterious' organization. This is further suspected because some PS loading screens were datamined, with one of them being either Azem or a new Ascian.

Also, it looks like Sphene is going to be relegated to the Island of Misfit Rulers, as there's dialogue where she says something along the lines of 'I must remain here in Alexandria, but if there is anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.'

One other spoiler for 7.3:

You approach the two Vows outside Vollok Shoonsa only to find Gulool Ja there as well, having come to begin his training under the Landsguard. After showing enthusiastic support for her nephew's ambition to learn swordplay, Wuk Lamat turns her attention to you. She expresses joy at how events unfolded for the queens past and present, and thanks you for helping her fulfill her promise.

Erenville, meanwhile, speaks of an impending extended journey, and Koana declares his intent to compile a thorough account of Tuliyollan history even as he attends to his day-to-day administrative duties. With plans shared and assurances to reunite exchanged, they send you on your way back to Sphene and the other Scions.

I won't pretend that I fully understand the workings of the key or the reflections. And I know I couldn't have stopped Calyx without you......Nor fulfilled my promise to the Endless Sphene. Thank you, <CHARNAME>, from the bottom of my heart. Be sure to come and visit us again in Tuliyollal. You'll always be welcome here!

(Thank fucking Christ.)

A King Solomon's Mines / Indiana Jones / Road to El Dorado / etc. type expansion where our characters more or less get back to basics would've been a fun change and given the dev team a ton of fucking freedom to set up new plot threads, discoveries, etc. while jet-setting around a new continent and helping folks we come across (a la how ARR essentially starts.) Essentially, Estinein more or less had the arc that the WoL should've had.

There were a lot of narrative hooks that had been teased here and there that were basically just ignored so we could get the Insufferable Saga of Trooncat.

Yeah, they made a point of congratulating her either at FanFest or on one of the Live Letters.

I've banged this drum before, but you can really see the difference in Dawntrail. Lots of small, minor errors, which are forgivable in a project this size (eg, things like cut and pasting the English names of some of the tools. I think the Pickaxe had the same name as the Hatchet or vice versa. Little grammatical or style guide errors, etc.) More than a few bigger errors (the biggest one being that the EN script mixes up locations in Troon Cat's acceptance speech, something that apparently didn't happen in the JP script), and almost all the characters either sounding like a photocopy of a cliche or like what a Millennial who is roughly Kate's age would sound like.

If she had an involved role with shit like casting for the EN localizations I am hoping she is on a MUCH tighter leash next go round or she has her roles and responsibilities shifted around. I know that it is unlikely to happen, but man, she just irks me and that's without going into the idiotic progressive politics nonsense she views as a superhuge deal to champion into her career. You're not "non-binary" or whatever gender special identity you want, you're just an unfortunate looking woman who poor attempts at taking care of yourself make you look even worse, lol.
