Curious where/how Calyx fits into this, if Halmarut is supposed to be an ally or not an antagonist.
Calyx fits in because his solution was "If we put everything inside the aether powered computer, then who gives a fuck if everything is annihilated, so long as we can pour the aether juice into said computer and live forever", which suits Halmarut as she probably wants to preserve life, but doesn't care if it's digital.

YoshiP is just Todd Howard but Japanese and gay. Him saying anything should be an indicator that the opposite is more likely to be true.

Whatever they do for this expac I hope they don't try cramming two expacs into one like what they did with stormblood and EW, holy fuck pick ONE place/history and focus on it.

I hope they learned their lesson; I get that they want to strike when the iron is hot and deliver a large story, but rushing it's only going to cause issues.

Beastmaster looks okay but it is disappointing that it's a limited job and that I can't queue for roulettes and run in with my big Chimera pet. My hope is that they would see the enthusiastic fan reaction and demand and will convert it into a real job, but this is Yoshi-P so I doubt it.

Maybe Summoner or Reaper can scratch your itch? I do agree, BST looks like it would be pretty fun for regular gameplay, but maybe the devs will add something to "justify" it being a limited job...

Ah, who are we kidding? After seeing all the backlash towards Dawntrail (I've yet to go through it myself), I admit my expectations are rather low.

I really miss old summoner, having a pet that actually did something and not just hang around so I can do different flavor attacks.

I'm of the hunch that we may be getting a pet based job for the next expansion, but that is honestly dependent on how exactly BST pets function.

If it is pretty robust, I imagine that they'd want to double dip with that dev time and repurpose it for something else. What would it be? Puppetmaster, potentially.

There's been some stuff floated in similar to what they did with Pictomancer's animations in Endwalker, and if this new Ascian is going to be an ally and fighting with us (similar to how Emet Selch and Trooncat functioned in trusts), I'd imagine they'd maybe function in tandem with Calyx in his teddy form. Slightly similar to Lulu.

Also, Hironobu Sakaguchi (one of the original devs for Final Fantasy) had requested it (he was doing a streamed playthrough like 2ish years ago) and apparently that was what made Yoshi P decide to green light BST.

Wasn't Garuda really the only choice since Ifrit had too much downtime and Titan was only good for tanking?
Garuda was for AoEs, Ifrit did single target damage and Titan could tank and had tank skills iirc, but people just used Garuda because Ifrit had to be awkwardly moved around

never had a problem with Ifrit with pre EW summoner. funny thing is, Ifrit's aspect with nu-Summoner I dislike cause it's basically a whole 3 second long ass cast, but the damage isn't worth it when compared to Garuda speed casts and Titan's double cast.

Biggest problem with SMN before EW removed its frontal lobe was that the pets were independently casting spells - this didn't really matter with any of the standard egis, you'd just sic those anyway, but if you had to move in a demi phase they'd follow you and then bahamut just doesn't use wyrmwave at all because fuck you, that's why. SCH fairies did this too, for that matter. Lovely feeling to miss a heal because the fairy decided it just didn't want to cast that, actually.

I am TBH curious to see the reports on how BST works because if it has independent pets and they work anything like old SMN then they've either fixed this (and remember, for SMN the fix here was to rip the whole pet system out basically, so my hopes aren't high for them having figured out how to do that in the intervening years) or it's going to be complete ass to handle them.

I will never stop being bitter about the fact they turned Summoner into glue eating paint huffers because they found doing that was easier than fixing Carbuncle and egis/demis, but when faced with the same problem on Scholar, they found out the Fae's latency issues and fixed it because that's their class identity, you know.

Garuda was also used for dot extensions which made it the only pick for content before FF14 decided they couldn't handle having a dot class

Don't forget having to weave Addle in to get an extra wyrmwave GCD because we couldn't just auto-attack I guess.

It's census time, and ooof things are bad.

(Blue = New Players, Red = Continuing Players, Green = Leaving players)

Ignore the last column because the data is always incomplete, but this expansion has been the worst for both player retention and on boarding new players. 8.0 better blow peoples socks off otherwise the game is in deep trouble.

It's slowly but steadily dipping in pre-ShB territory, which is pretty insane considering how much hype ShB and EW had. DT has been nothing but a string of PR disasters in comparison.

Yeah but it's just a small handful of transphobes whose opinions we really shouldn't be taking into account.

At least that's what reddit tells me.

Just reinforcing what I believe in for XIV; Live by the MSQ, die by the MSQ. Bait and Switch with Krile, the faux storyline of being competitors with other scions, so many pointless and useless scenes with Wuk Lmao. Add in the fact that Occult Crescent is trash and Cosmic Exploration is nothing but a repetitive grind over and over again and I'm honestly shock the total users hasn't finally dipped into Stormblood numbers.
