It looks like from the visuals this will be about a more humane rejoining? how would you pull that off without having everyone on all the shards being turned into pure Aether and killed?

They'll pull some shit out of their ass to justify it, probably. After Dawntrail, my expectations are officially rock-bottom for a decent story.

Turn their body into pure aether, shove it in a crystal, move the crystal to the source, turn them back to normal. Welcome to FFXIV 9.0 The Great Replacement.

uh, no, even with Dawntrail and everything else in 14, the logistics of problems are almost always the core issue that our Science and Engineering crew have to figure out, that is the sort of main theme of FF14, the only miracle is the Warrior of Light's strength in combat.

I’m under the impression that the plan is they’re finding a way to join the remaining shards to the source while preserving them. The First is still around so it makes sense if we do the same with the rest of the shards.

this kills the crab, Snowball.

the Shards are exact copies of the planet, souls and all, the First is still seperate from the Source, if you "rejoin" them it gets turned into pure fucking Aether and fused back into the Aether stream, no living thing can survive this process except maybe Unsundered Ancients, everyone else kinds needs their bodies makeup to remain the same and not get pulled through a cosmic straw and sucked into another celestial body.

the only thing, up till now, that could be done is stabilizing the other Shards, but it seems only a few aren't total disasters that haven't been Succ'd already.

That's probably what they are aiming for, there's only six shards left to rejoin so it'd be easier to just stabilize them. We're heading to the fourth to stop the eternal cold before it's too late.

Unfortunately so far my dream item has not been announced, that being the total banning of all venues and mods. Unfortunately that shit is just a growing tumor and it feels like more and more of the pf board is becoming just venue ads.

Please Yoshi P behead and ban all venue goers and my life is yours.

The gooners doing erp is their last major demographic.

Yeah true. Still wondering exactly how they’re going to pull it off.
Also the new zones look good so far, very fantasy. Glad to see no signs of modernslop areas like S9 but knowing the dev team it could be a huge bait and switch.

pf board is becoming just venue ads.
I play on Chaos, one of the EU datacenters, nobody raids here, everyone raids on Light. Literally every single PF on Chaos 80% of the time is 15 venue adverts. At this moment there are 22 PF groups on my DC and only 6 are for any kind of actual duty, the rest are venue/bar/nightclub adverts. The cross region party finder is a godsend for us EUfags.

Hey there FFXIV thread, it's been awhile. Hope your 2026 has been good.

I was the sprout who played through the game last year and posted little updates after each expansion I completed, talking about things I liked and didn't like and how much fun I was having, only to crash out and start outright hating the game when I hit mid-Dawntrail.

Saw we got info today about the new expansion. How's everyone feeling about the mention of "modes" that will make job rotations work differently? Some of the character customization stuff they talked about sounds kind of fun, but I'll be honest- I'm just not sure I can make myself trust CBU3 again and get reinvested into the game. It was genuinely soulcrushing to see how characters I'd come to care about were treated and the way the lore was completely fucked over.

All that said; How have the post-DT patches been? Is the actual content fun at least? Would you recommend this as a time to come back to the game, or should I continue to ignore it like a spurned ex-lover?

I love getting away from Tural and the faux latinx atrocities, the Au Ra characters look good, but I thought the foes were extremely boring this time around and wasn't interesting in the least.
Like what the fuck is this?

Was drone #413131 really the best they could do?

This is also really weak compared to the dragons from Heavensward, the sin eaters of Shadowbringers, or the blasphemies of endwalker.

Imagine how much more exciting something like this would have been,

I dunno I'm a fan of Jotunns so I think they are pretty darn neat.

Have I forgotten something, or have they even explained how the Shards that faced a calamity, like the Fourth and Ninth, are even still populated? Isn't the whole point of the calamities that they sync up with a Rejoining ie the entire shard being genocided and fused with the Source?

I'm cautiously optimistic about the idea of Evolved modes. I think it's probably the best approach to take if they actually DID want to take a shot at making jobs interesting and they've said it will feature different rotations. But I'll wait until they've released some actual gameplay footage to break out the copium.

The post DT is... fine. I didn't find the story interesting but, it isn't "Speak with Wuk Lamat" either. I would recommend the Variant dungeon if you can find people willing to play. it is genuinely fun midcore let down by the lack of real incentives to do it. I haven't heard much noise about the Deep Dungeon and the Quantum shit they floated so I'll assume it was nothing special. Alliance Raids are just average, some of the Normal raid fights were fun.
I'll probably leave it til Beastmaster to catch up.

the rejoining wasn't finalized, they didn't tip over, they just had the onset.

all of the chaos, none of the finality.

At the very least I think having options for changing up rotations is more interesting than just 'grind 10 more levels, gain 2 more buttons'. Likewise, I am just a tiny bit optimistic that maybe they can do something more interesting with our jobs.

The announcement that the game will be releasing on Switch 2 is however discouraging, as the hardware limitations of that platform make me think they may become conservative with any future upgrades to systems or graphics.

Thanks for the content summary- Might pop back on and see if I can find a group for the VC at least.

That was what happened on the First with the Flood of Light being halted to prevent the Astral Calamity. But with Ice and Lightning, there were actual Calamities in Eorzea that 100% happened coinciding with the Storm Surge and now Evercold, there was one for each of the elements. Doesn't that mean the Rejoining was successfully completed on those shards?

What this implies gets revealed in a bit, and is the entire crux that the expansion lies on.

Supposedly, the PvP guy got put in charge of the battle systems over the guy who had been sanding everything down, but I find it extremely unlikely that the studio is somehow going to pivot from... 7 years, now, right? of the SHB combat design and its insistent need to dumb everything down into something new. Every rework they have done up until this point - SMN, 3 or 4 AST, DRG, PLD, BLM, 3 or 4 MNK - has watered them down, made it easier, made it simpler.

The evolution-mode just seems to be what they're eventually moving towards as the default, rather than as some real alternative. Despite insisting that it's "by no means the easier rotation," it would make sense that these are going to be designed around Switch 2 (and mobile) players as their primary focus. It's certainly not impossible that these are some real leaps forward and the return of actual resource management freed from giving a shit about aligning CDs, but this seems extremely unlikely as it would imply a complete shake-up to the way they've been designing the encounters.
