Final Fantasy XVI - Featuring Dante from Devil May Cry

I don’t like Kojima but did he say something… based?
I think it has to do with this tweet.

His Twitter is full of this stuff as well. Link
Diving deep he seemed to be a massive Metal Gear Solid fan...until he did a 180 and firmly now hates it.

"latino" isn't an ethnically accurate term either. nor is it materially different from "latin" in the modern usage. "hispanic" (meaning from Hispania, or modern-day Spain/Portugal/Catalonia) or "mestizo" (Mexicans with hispanic ancestry) would be the accurate terms depending on your ancestry. "latino", "latina", and the dread neologism "latinx" are bastard words that come from hispanic people referring to themselves as Latin after the Roman occupation despite being indigenous Iberians or having mixed ancestry. "Latin" in this usage is a cultural identification, not an ethnic one, and that's the usage that has survived today. dumbass. how surprising that the justice warrior didn't spare time for even a cursory glance at the wiki page before spiking the Dunning-Kruger graph in everyone's feeds. call me latin again fucker and me and my discord niggas are gonna fuck u up

I like the Drakengard influence in this game. As a Drakentard this aerial combat pleases me.

Bit of a necro post, but; how is this game currently? Would you recommend picking it up, or no?

I'm a decent chunk into it at this point. It's different. I can see how it's divisive. It's just a straight-up action game. No party management at all. Your party members, except for your dog, come and go as the story demands. So, you never really have a core group you're adventuring with. The combat is fast-paced though and feels a bit more put together and polished than XV's did. It helps that the enemies actually will move and do things compared to that game, so it's not nearly as much of a slog.

The art direction is very competent. The world looks like a fantasy world instead of just modern day like XV. Lots of cool landmarks and architecture and each of the nations you visit feels distinct enough. Character designs are very subdued. They were hardcore aiming for a Western audience this time, so everyone's fairly grungy looking. Which can be nice. Everyone looks appropriately shitty and filthy during scenes that call for it. The party AI is really solid in battle. No one does anything dumb and everyone does a great job of keeping enemies' attention.

The game itself does feel longer and more meaty than I expected. When they kept saying "it's an action game" I thought that'd transfer to the title's length too, and expected a story that was as long as a DMC game's or something. But, it's pretty good. Decent amount of sidequests, the areas are big and expansive and have decent little crevasses and crannies to explore.

I'll say it feels like it's borrowing a ton of stuff from other games. The big focus on flames and bringing down the order of the world feels like another similarly-Western-focused JRPG reboot from recent years, Tails of Arise. Although, the story and character dynamics here are a lot more polished. Similarly, Clive and his relationship with Ifrit feels a lot like Haseo and Skeith in .hack//GU. Not sure if it's intentional, but even the way Clive calls out to summon him, or the cutscene where Ifrit's presence makes itself known feels somewhat alike.

The RPG elements are pretty minimal though. You really aren't given options as far as the main equipment goes. Sure, you get three option slots where you can select rings and shit that'll either boost stats or boost one of your Eikonic abilities. And you can pick between three different Eikons (Four technically since Ifrit's abilities are lumped in with Phoenix's), but you don't have a ton of variety in how you'll be building Clive up otherwise.

The Active Time Lore system is neat. But, the way it's implemented just has me pausing cutscenes a lot so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Still, it offers up a good way to expand on the setting without tons of exposition. Which is fine I guess, since you can't engage or interact with 99% of the NPCs in the game.

It's much more competent than FFXV was though. The animations are very polished and it feels like a complete game. No major bugs or issues, aside from an NPC getting stuck on some geometry once. I think this game probably would've been better off as a spin-off title instead of a main game. It's a really fine action title. But, not necessarily what I'm looking for in a Final Fantasy game. It's fun and action-packed, but it feels like there's some kinda spark missing. In the effort to appeal to more normal people and Americans, it's really lost a bit of the series' identity in the process. Even the musical cues and nods from past games here just have me wanting more like the games it's referencing.

A necro bump but I'm back. Was kinda scared that this place was gone as I discovered that Mr. Afterlife Games has made a follow up calling the game "White Hot Garbage"....I wonder why?
Final Fantasy XVI is White Hot Garbage
Oh, and a lovely comment below it. View attachment 5282696
Jesus Christ that guy is completely nuts, how does he not have a thread already? The funniest thing about it is that the latinx shit is universally despissed in South America. it only works on the spiks niggers who are born in the first world and take their "having safe water to drink" privilege for granted.

PC version is out. Try the demo before you buy, I didn't, and got an ugly surprise when the game simply refused to open. Fortunately, my steam deck runs it - Poorly, but well enough to enjoy myself.

Gonna need to look into upgrading sooner than expected, it seems.
