Fire Emblem series

The Nintendo switch joycon hair colors turned me off of ever touching Engage. I have fealty for Awakening as my first, but upon learning about FE4... it's clear now that Awakening, Fates AND 3 Houses took a lot directly from it. So I'm now one of those cunts who wants that unattainable remake. Valentia was so damn good I thought it was a wholly unique game, until I learned it was a remake of 2, which proves that I.S. can indeed handle FE4 if they so choose. Whether current year Nintendo would tackle things like "child sacrifices to moloch loptyr" is another story entirely, and doubtful.

3H had genocide and child experimentation as core parts of its backstory and you can find a lot of skeevy games available for sale on the Switch, I'm less concerned about whether Nintendo would step in and more about whether IS will insert some retarded multiverse/gacha mechanic or Treehouse trying to perform an orchiectomy on the translation.

Just play FE4 now; don't wait for a remake that may or may not happen. Genealogy is still an extremely solid game nearly 30 years later. Even if they do remake it and it is as faithful to the source material as Echoes was it, having played it will still give you an appreciation as to why it's generally well-regarded.

There's also very much a chance that Echoes was a lightning in a bottle situation thanks to a dev team headed by people who had a really deep love for FE2, quirks and all. Granted, that would probably (hopefully) be the case with the hypothetical FE4 remake too, but at this point I'd hardly be shocked if they added an avatar because that's what the baka gaijin like. And even if they don't adjust the story for 'modern western sensibilities', I don't have confidence they won't, in some fashion, dumb down a game that really is not very complicated.

Of course, all that could just be the worst-case scenario and me being pessimistic, but you still really should just go ahead play Genealogy regardless. It's a fun time, especially on your first playthrough.

This is my concern as well considering Echoes didn't sell as well as the other modern games and it wasn't reviewed as favorably. Which sucks because I think it's a amazing game and honestly one of the better overall remakes. It kept a lot (if not all) of the weird jank of FE2 and added some cool additions in line with how the remake of RE1 did it. But people whined about it so I'm not totally optimistic they would give FE4 the same treatment unless they view it solely as a passion project.

Echoes not selling has more to do with timing than player reception, at least from what I've seen - most people who I've seen talk about it who did play it tend do so favorably. It released at the dead end of the 3DS's life cycle a month after the Switch and Heroes were launched and two months after 3H's was first announced; even the Tellius games weren't as bad about their releases.

I'll probably have to. I don't mind it aside from some quality of life issues and the fact that I'm definitely spoiled for feh's updated character designs. They make Sigurd and Dierdre look so beautiful. But I like what I've seen of FE4's more "regal" dialogue and Awakening already gave me a taste of its ost.
which makes me want a remake more because of how they made Valentia's good tracks into godly tracks.

You took the comparison to REmake right out of my mouth. Adding shit, but not screwing it up, and having a firm reverence for the past.

I assume you've already been spoiled on it's plot?
If not, I suggest going in blind.
Not only is FE4 a pretty easy game but the few surprises it has have at least a chance to hit hard if you're blind.

Finally finished the last route on three houses the other day. Really wish they’d just stick to mainline titles instead of shit like engage because it’s clear they are still capable of making very solid games
There are so many things wrong with this:

- Engage is a mainline title.
- The gameplay of Engage is much closer to the old Fire Emblem games than Three Houses.
- Three Houses added Persona-like elements that don’t exist in the other games.
- Three Houses is the only mainline game to NOT be developed primarily by IntSys.

The multiverse bullshit puts engage out of mainline category by default for me. You can call them persona aspects but really it is just expanded supports with a calendar. Three houses is a well made game; engage is just weeb shit

What was your last route?

I did a Black eagle magic only run again recently. Was fun.
Byleth, Jeritza and Edelgard carried the run.
Also, Hubert as a paladin with frozen lance is great. I loved my boy.

I think 3H is a well made game in spite of the hub/Persona aspects, but it plays more like a new IP with FE slapped on it than a new FE game. They would have been more bearable if they cut the monastery grind after a certain point in the war phase when you're supposed to be on the campaign trail - they could have even reused that truncated base area they had for Crimson Flower's opening.
You wouldn't be wrong and it won't be the last time that they'll celebrate the past to appease their gachafags.
That's the thing I found most offensive about Engage; it's not even a celebration of the past, it's a caricature of it. All the old characters and homages feel like they were written by someone who had experienced them through Heroes and not in their own games.

Last one was silver snow. Still think edelgard did nothing wrong but silver snow is really good. Kind of wish there was a hard route option that let you get the three lords to cooperate but otherwise didn’t hate any of them. Think I just like having special “true” endings available to reward extra planning/difficulty

The warriors spinoff has a cooperation ending, afaik.

Very much this. From watching it it felt more like marketing to update the old lords to their Heroes characterization, combined with lots of vagueposting about people they knew. It's pretty straightforward marketing, but it kind of sucks imo.

This, it's very fun and has a lot of interesting ideas and fun gameplay. Just, uh, use savestates liberally. 1 hour-plus maps are hard to squeeze in.

I read the companion manga since I liked the premise so much, so yeah, definitely spoiled lol. I feel for those who played feh just to be spoiled on who the black knight was, that shit would have sucked.
