Fire Emblem series

Engage was literal proof IS doesn't give a fuck about what its fanbase wants, i mean just look at shit like this

Isn't this character also considered good as well?
I think he is a wyvern rider, a historically very powerful class.

That adds a whole layer to this character, that even if you hate him you'll lose out on a great unit.

From what I've seen he's actually regarded as rather bad despite being a wyvern rider.
People cite his stats as not standing out particularly great for his join time and even say that he wastes the Eirika ring in his join chapter.

First off: that charecter is actually the only one that joined with a Gender swapping emblem ring, being Erika and Ephraim respectively.

Second off: I immediately made it drop its weapons and wonder into the red zone to die so I actually forgot it was there at all

I waited one chapter so that he would actually die instead of "retreating" because the devs are too lazy to code different cutscenes for the survival of non lord npcs anymore.

Ah, you waited too long then, he shockingly will actually die if you kill him right away. Goldmary and Hortensia will explicitly mourn his death if you go talk to them in the after-battle map.

I obviously have zero experience using him, but I've never heard anyone talk about him as an actual unit. Which is fair considering how this game is designed. Several units out of the box are horrifically overpowered, there entirely user driven reclassing (anyone can be any class), and really, unit feel is more determined by the Emblem Ring than by the unit themselves unless your name is Panette.

Also, for a rare complement to Engage, walking around the maps after the battle was a lot of fun and the maps were gorgeous.

Kind of mid, from what I remember. Gets overshadowed by Chloe and an number of other characters
Coincidentally Chloe is one of the few conventionally attractive female characters in Engage and the only one to have a design that could fit in a more traditional FE game. Unintentionally based.

From what I've seen, he mainly just gets used as an replacement or something. But then again, fliers might have gotten the shaft in Engage, but I'm not entirely sure. Never really had an good reason to run more of them.

I don't really mind there being a girly-esque character like Rosado. He's along the same lines as Lucius or Forrest, and his supports aren't bad. He's consistent if nothing else.

I think Jade's my favourite design for being simple/conventional, though you've got some other alternatives if you go outside of base class trees.

Lucius is an androgynous looking guy that some characters initially mistake as a female. Rosado goes out of his way to crossdress (while also forcing his wyvern to play dress up to his whims), and his major personality trait is "fag".

I was really glad to see they had form of post-battle mourning dialogue back in Engage. I think it's better implemented in other games, but any form of it adds so much weight to the permadeath mechanic, especially when sometimes it feels like half the cast ends up 'retreating' or 'gravely wounded' when they get killed, even when you're not playing on casual.

Path of Radiance does this really well. I remember specifically my first time playing FE9 when I was young I let Boyd die in the first chapter - Ike explicitly talks about it after the battle, and I remember Rolf even mentioning that Boyd was dead when he first joins the party like 9 chapters later, and that was enough to make me restart my run to keep Boyd alive going forward, which is not something I did as a kid at all lol. It's just a little thing that adds so much.

In Echoes I love the implementation also. Some of these are actually pretty heartbreaking. Poor Whitewings (:_(

Forrest gets away with it because he cannot S rank men without autistically modifying your game

FE's always had girly men in it (FE3 Xane is more zesty than most, and even works the Ranma angle in his intro by shapeshifting into Tiki, then teasing Marth by saying he loves him, later pulls the "I don't like humans, but you're not like other humans, Mars-san..." schpiel, bla bla bla) but Rosado really does feel like the least elegant and most pandering version possible of that archetype. Everyone knows he's a Bridget Guiltygear and not a Lucius/Midir/Libra, and JUST that by design. Engage characters are largely over-the-top renditions of previous FE archetypes, but Rosado doesn't get that excuse because he is just static fetish, every one of his supports is just about being cute or being an asshole. He's like, and I don't say this lightly, a Compile Heart character. He fucking sucks and i've never used him and i never will. Rosado (MADDENING AUTISM ALERT) shows up with shit equipment and failing to capitalize off of one of the best combat emblems in the game. Rosado is a growth unit right before a series of big difficulty spikes that don't really stop where, if you don't have your primary combat units established, bussy aint gonna save you nigga. Why bother with bussyman when both senior citizens show up right afterwards, work right out of the box, have unique and cool skills that enable multiple different builds, look like fire emblem, and have actual characters written for them beyond fetish? Imagine being one of the most shallow, obnoxious, hamfisted eyesore characters in fucking engage. goldmary sucks too

Your average modern FE fan plays these games as shipping/dating sims, not srpgs. More shit like that is exactly what they want and I hope IS stops conceding to them.
I have a legit fear that whenever FE4 gets a remake, or any other game for that matter, that IS will add a self-insert avatar in them, like what they did with Kris in FE12 (but now with REAL romantic supports). You just know that it's the perfect opportunity for them to do it (specially FE4) and I hate it.

"For goodness sake Python, get up!"
"..."
"Python?"

That actually hurt me emotionally, holy :'(.

Echoes voice acting still surprising me til this day.

I think with FE4 specifically the reverence for the game (and even its structure with the generations) save it from having an avatar shoved into it.
In a japanese poll from 2021 for favorite video games FE4 was the only series entry other than 3H that made it into the list;

Rate me optimistic but IS has to know that an avatar would be poking the hornets nest.

They didn't add an avatar for Echoes - granted, the structure would be difficult to have made it meaningfully work, but it is a point in their favor. Most we can hope for is that whatever IS does add is more like Berkut than Faye.

This is a bit OT, but I was rewatching some old MATI and I was reminded of all the drama between Null and Graf during the DropKiwiFarms/Poast arc. For those who don't know/forgot, there's a thread here discussing the fediverse/poast drama in general, but to summarize Null and Graf had a falling out because farmers using Poast highlighted that Graf had effectively created a haven for lolicons, ostensibly out of free speech principles. The kicker? Graf used Sothis as his avatar for a long time and his subsequent avatars are just OC Donut Steel versions of Sothis, and I don't think anyone told Null that the person he was trying to get to denounce lolicons had an avatar of one of the clearest cut cases of the '3000 year old totally legal' trope, nevermind that you have her milf daughter as an option instead.

I think based on the painting of Sothis in her prime, the Sothis in Byleth's head is supposed to be the same age as them, so roughly 21, depending on what moon you entered your Byleth's birthday as.

I suppose that's one interpretation but it could just as easily be that's an in-game artist's envisioning of Sothis. Either way since Sothis is in Byleth's head she could theoretically appear however she wishes (and IS certainly could have designed her however they wished) and that is what settled on.

Yeah, but it would be an in-game artist commissioned by Rhea/Seiros, one of the only characters still alive to have personally known Sothis.
