Excluding random school recitals and the like, my first concert I went to would have been seeing Megumi Hayashibara in concert at AnimeCon '91.

My extended family is full of musicians, and as far back as I can remember, we were always going to bluegrass, country, polka, and folk festivals/concerts, but the first individual artist I can actually recall was Conway Twitty, not long before he died.

As for the first real rock concert? I won a pair of tickets by calling a radio program for Megadeth, Fear Factory, Flotsam & Jetsam, and Korn (on their first tour).

The first tickets I ever paid money for was to go see Primus with my girlfriend at the time. Primus sucks, and so did she. That particular show also had a pit more dangerous than anything I'd encountered before; not even Slayer was as bloody.

But the first time I ever went completely solo, was to go see B.B. King. I heard the man was in town last minute, had a cat inside who owed me, and was pressed into temporary bar-back duty and listen to the warm up jam that B.B. did. Tiny venue, huge legend, it was fucking mystical.

In between all that, I ended up at the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival, which was also my first outdoor daytime electronica experience. Prior to that, it was all underground warehouse parties.

My first real concert was also my first solo concert. Low-key embarrassing to admit, but it was Emilie Autumn. I was 17, and an emancipated minor. Not really my bag now, but it served its purpose at the time. My brief internet research tells me that it will have been 10 years ago in just about a week.

I'm sure I saw other small performances before then, but I don't really count those.

The first show I went to (beyond local punk bands gigging for beer) was Social Distortion. They were touring on the self-titled album. Mike Ness was 28. I know this because he told the crowd that he'd 'just turned 28' the day before. I remember thinking "Haha, you're old dude..."

Now we're both old. But at least I got to see Social Distortion many many more times before they morphed into whatever weird Americana-Stadium-Rock thing they've become.

First concert was Guns and Roses back in 07, I think.
I've never gone to a concert solo, to me, it always felt like one of those things you get together with friends to do.

Plenty of christian rock shit-tier bands that no one wanted to see... Jr high through hs. Never went with mommy or daddy. Believe it or not.
First one that I chose: Who-Quadraphenia (reboot, i'm not THAT old) went solo.
First with 'friends': Rush. Baller concert, terrible album tour (Roll the Bones). Went with a grifter POS that constantly tried to steal from me. Still has my CDs and owes me $$$. Fucker. He did bring the weed however.
First Backstage: Jesus Lizard. David Yow was such a NICE, down to earth guy. He would talk to you all night, no rush.
Best: Flaming Lips: Garage Experiments/Zaireeka. TRIPPY AS FUCK. fucking UNREAL. Especially since it was in an 'iffy' neighborhood bar.

These questions are fun. I guess we need to help the alphabets complete the profiles/social maps of us. Good thing we all lie about this shit.

Simon and Garfunkel free concert in Central Park, New York, Sept. 19, 1981. I was a high school kid then.
And yes, old guys can navigate the internet, kids. At least some of us can.
Nice to see another 50+ Farmer! I don't think there are many of us. And yes, growing up as the first home computers became available had its advantages...if you took a keen interest in the technology and kept up with the evolution of it!
My first one was Rush. All the World's a Stage Tour. LOL But I was pretty young in 1976.
My first solo was Loverboy with Bryan Adams Pre-Reckless as opening act in 1983.
