Aquariums seem like a fun hobby. We had a decent sized freshwater tank when I was a kid, but my dad gave up on it after a few months because the upkeep and maintenance just became too much to handle.

It's something I'd like to get involved with if/when I have the money and time.
 
I have two ten gallons right now, one has a betta and one is empty (just water). I have a 3 gallon aquaponics tank too, I could put I betta in there but I think I'll get a snail maybe? The filter on it is kinda shit tho, I don't want it sookin up my boys.

I have no fish, but my uncle is a marine biologist. He helped our local aquarium get started.
 
I used to keep a small planted freshwater tank, but due to my current living situation I have no tank at the moment. Once I'm settled properly somewhere though, I want to try my hand at saltwater. My own little personal reef would be quite nice.

For anyone scared at the prospect of maintenance and such, don't be. If you have a decent amount of patience and are willing to do your research, keeping an aquarium isn't that tough. There's always the beginning slog where you have to get the water in your tank properly cycled, but it's pretty easy since you just do a few things and leave a filter running and let nature take its course as you test the water every few days. Unless you're a moron who didn't do their research for the living conditions of the aquatic creatures you're interested in keeping, you're unlikely to run into issues once your water is ready.

Saltwater is definitely more expensive than freshwater, so if cost is a concern then go freshwater. And I always suggest people to get at least a couple hardy aquatic plants to have in their tank. You don't have to go all-out with expensive lighting and impressive aquascaping with plants. It's good because the plants help with all the biological stuff going on in the water, even just a few help out. Obviously you still have to do shit like siphon gravel, but water changes are much less of a pain when you've got some plants to help out.

If you have any particular questions feel free to ask me, I like helping out people who are interested in aquariums but find some of it daunting or confusing.

i'd watch the fuck out for aquaman if he's got these dudes on his side, imagine an army of these river fuckers with their scary ass teeth and fucked up eyes (they kinda cute tho, in a weird way)
