It can happen. There are minor mouth deformities that can affect a baby’s ability to latch. If a baby can’t latch and the parents decide not to surgically intervene, then the other options would be to pump or use formula and use a receptacle that the baby can’t eat fromLetty to Twins: "Were you breastfed?"
