He was a content receptacle. He tried his best to be God-fearing and kind, everyone else hated him because he was sanctimonious and boring. That's why almost every other fish and freeloader fucked with him. I suppose you could argue he drove that content, but really he was the catalyst rather than the driver. He reacted to others fucking with him.
