Absolutely. I was honestly fine with the slow pace of the first week because I could watch Burt Tank and follow him from room to room as he tried to figure out what was going on.

If they really went this way, they could super gaslight burt by doing a sponsored segment for a new product each day or two, like using continuously increasingly big brands (interspersed with some fake ones - think of the satirical brands in GTA or Postal) and they would actually possibly get some real life sponsor segment inquiries from it.

On top of that, when burt leaves the house it would be something like this:

Found Ted’s seemingly abandoned Instagram after searching #dropthroughtrucks on IG. He’s really been skating for a while :story:

Are there any clips of the fish being told about Ted?
I think Jet started telling Sneed before I could start recording but here's most of them finding out. Then just a bunch of crying over an aids patient they've known for a week.

t but I somehow doubt they ask contestants straight up "do you know what fishtank is?"
Impractical jokers does this, in those "focus groups" challenges, before hand they have someone on production ask basic questions, like a hundred of them and at a certain point they go "have you heard of any of these shows" and list off like 20 and one of them is impractical jokers and if they recognize them they're gone.

Most hidden prank shows do something similar, outside of something like punk'd but even then they usually would avoid people that had been on or known the tricks of the trade because they'd be able to figure it out and shut it down. Like Nick Cannon they tried 3 times to prank him on Punk'd but because he was on a similar show before he would spot the cameras and audio equipment and ruin it.

Like how retarded is fishtank that production couldn't just go "hey do you know any of these shows?" and just take out any fishtank fans.

Sam Hyde doesn't give a fuck about the show and it shows, i think we'll find out years from now that Sam fucked over Jet's plans multiple times, but he knows Sam has that Josh Moon disease where calling him out will only ruin shit more.

The fish are probably reacting the way they are partly because they think that's what is expected of reality show contestants - fake remorse and big tears for the cameras will get them attention and keep them in the running. If production wanted real drama they would have cast a group of drag queens. Jet Neptune's Drag Race.

It's so hard to tell how invested Sam Hyde is, but I guess they're in a hard spot now where they keep promising more and more fishtank seasons and have also done an investment round (I wonder what the terms of investment were if they want to dissolve the business). It's going to be harder for them to ever get a "virgin" set of contestants as time goes on also.

It's also the case I think where their prime motivator has been that this is a money printer, or at least was in the 1st season. I'm very curious to see what the current average viewership and spending by viewers on this season is in comparison to previous seasons.

One thing is for certain: unless they somehow keep upping the ante with each season (which they've said they're aiming to do one every 6 months) the attention that fishtank gets will probably wane over time.
