Personally I'm getting a little tired of all these IP2 hanger-ons in the fishtank sphere recently. I'm not too well versed on the Ice Poseidon backstory but everyone I see associated with him has been a complete loser and not even in an entertaining way. Given the nature of all the irl streaming I guess it's inevitable that paths get crossed but I really hope they don't get much more attention from production, much less make it onto an actual fishtank season.

I agree for the most part.
Outside of the show people can collab with who they want, Letty is with icepiss, Shadi is with cheeto, Burt is with soynic. but don't want them on the show besides Onlyusemeblade.

I've not watched like any of Icepiss jap trip but pretty sure she first showed up as a sniper in Japan a few months back.
IIRC she is a former prostitute (could be wrong and just IP2 taking the piss but she does seem the type)

Slightlyhomeless is one of the more degen of the recent additions to be picked up by icepiss and fits very much more in line with the Ip2 side than the CX side. He is the one who got arrested with suspendas (creepy near 40 year old guy who married a Tai hooker and tried to make her a wife and is a cow in his own right and has a thread here) in Napal for asking a 15 year old out. they didnt know she was 15 but yea has a bit of lore and drama behind him.
She's had all of the facial and eye surgery that the girls at the hostess clubs in Japan get, so she was/is almost definitely a hostess (read: whore).

I swear, if we end up with another disappointing, useless addition like another Josie, I’m going to lose it.
There were two mid asian girls at the auditions, one of them, as pointed out above is a Japanese girl who barely speaks English and commands an army of simps. Both of those girls, especially the Japanese girl will be there to maximise plushie purchases and donos. The season of simping is upon us.

No doubt at least one of Goblina (who was at the auditions), Oddbod (I guess there are visa hurdles that might prevent him from participating - let's hope its too much of a pain in the arse to sort out), and Aperture (if he decides he wants to go on) will be there, too.

Do you guys agree with the approach toe an open casting call and dropping the facade from both the contestant and viewer alike?
I don't think it's a good approach. I get that they're in a bind in that casting non-fans is hard. They're not good enough to ensure that no fans slip through. Then again, Teddy didn't ruin S3. Whatever Binx knew of FT, it didn't crash the show.

I'm not against a fan season though. S2 worked for me, despite its issues. They got some interesting people. But I think having the cast be fans and known entities is a very bad idea. Fishtank will always be plagued by the issue of viewers latching on to certain Fish in the first couple days and not letting go, even if the Fish starts underperforming or other Fish start to get interesting. If people already have favorites before the show even starts, this problem gets way worse.

Also, a big part of the fun of the first few days of every prior season was getting to know the Fish. It was frankly exciting watching the cameras, waiting for the next Fish to show up and seeing how they acted. All of this goes away with a known cast.

So I'm very much against public casting. It's fine for a mini season or X.5 thing. That said, I'm hopeful that, at the very least, only some of the cast for S4 will have appeared on Streamstars or whatever else. Could even be that Jet abandons the idea entirely. Would be cool to wrap it all up with something like another Ball Brothers concert, but I don't think Streamstars has attracted enough viewers for that. I've barely watched after the first few chaotic days.

I think there's ultimately a limit to the amount of fan seasons you can do. The try-hardiness increases exponentially each time they do it, because everyone wants to be the next Jimmy, or Greg, or whoever. Several of the people that were talking on the IP2 streamers' streams were talking about how they were playing characters for the auditions, and that can only be a bad thing, given that (1) these people aren't funny, and (2) they won't be able to keep it up for a season anyway. The guy who got kicked out, for example, had brought a script with him, and had a full routine planned and rehearsed.

I'd love to be wrong, but I have a really, really bad feeling that this season will be not only awful, but potentially the end of the whole thing.

Stream Stars as an audition process is very bad. I think 'Stars' are streaming too much for too long and all the mods are pretending like dedication to streaming is important at all. Same with points and the challenges.

There was an issue in Season 2 that some mixture of fans-as-contestants and what I interpreted as contempt towards the cast from Production made the whole season go off the rails. The state of the house and everyone in it was very grim towards the end.

A good number of people auditioning have already made their own home into week 5 of Season 2 and others have acclimated to other Fishtank related indecencies, barrage of TTS suggestions, feeling watched 24/7 or whatever. If they want to shock or make these people uncomfortable the starting point is now very different and raising the bar for a 6 week period is likely to get way out of hand, more so than Season 2.

Had no idea some of the people auditioning were known personalities, I definitely think thats a bad idea.

S3 was amazing in the beginning, but Im wondering if it was just because of Alex and Burt, who both felt like lightning in a bottle. Those two were by far some of the best fish ever. Would another blind casting be able to replicate that?

I also think they are greatly over estimating their reach. I have never met anyone IRL that have heard of Fishtank. Its a very obscure internet show as far as Im concerned. Even if people had, normies reacting to the insanity was part of the charm.

S1 was great since nobody knew what to expect. S2 had some great moments but the cast was very cringe and dull for most of the show. The constant "produce content" was borderline unwatchable.

S3 had a shit final act but the first two thirds were peak. They also fucked up their vision, after a strong start, why not try to fix it for S4?
