With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

  • 2 Stars — Pretty bad. Some funny moments, dragged, too many vibe repair days. Barely worth checking.

  • 3 Stars — Average. Solid entertainment in spots, some good chaos and crashouts, but nothing special

    Votes: 170 22.2%

I really can't stress enough that the biggest thing holding FT back is that there aren't nearly enough challenges.
Write a master list of like 1000 challenges good and bad, simple and complex and then run them every hour on the hour.
They don't even have to be good because the next challenge is at most like 45m away so even a dumb challenge is quickly forgotten.

Hand everyone a huge cigar and tell them that the first person to smoke the whole thing wins $200.
Longest wall supported head stand wins.
Give everyone duct tape, best article of clothing wins.
Bring everyone's phone up and let them volunteer to have it unlocked and looked through for 5 minutes for $200 etc

Most days this allegedly happened this season ended up with organic conflict and content happening, especially in the JD-era. If you cast well the Fish just carry themselves when the wiggers whiff on a bit.
I think cast and production should go hand and hand. The cast being good definitely carries. But they always have burn outs because they are people. There was at least a week period of them not doing any real challenges. Even if they don't go high concept. I think them having a consistent stream of challenges both helps the Fish keep engaged and builds more inter conflict naturally.

It's the final day of the show with 5 hours left(supposedly) and all that is happening is bust harassing Alex b. It's crazy how the s3 fish just overtake the rest of the cast when they're around.
Famous House truly was one of a kind, the effort they went to with the casting was honestly impressive along with how the gaslight broke Alex and Burt's brains in the long term.

I agree with this. I think what would really help FT is just having more filler content in between the big beats that they have set up and want to hit. I would rather they have a semi set schedule of "Challenges between x and y time, sleep between a and b time", so they could have a set content schedule instead of "Wait, its 3 am and everyone is beyond blasted and tired and not good content, we need to do something because the last event was 1pm, lets go fuck with them".

No need to even think all that much, just steal shit from Taskmaster, either as is, or in versions adapted to be edgier and/or better-suited to be done indoors.

Burt and Alex B have produced more "content" in the last 14 hours than Emma produced all season
I think that it’s a pretty big indictment of this season that this is finale day and the only interesting thing that’s happened since the finale started is Alex B and Burt fighting.

We can spend hours saying how to improve the show after season 5 but each season has devolved into letting the money roll in through TTS farming and fishtoy blitz more and more as the season progresses. From the wigger perspective, as long as they're making money they don't need to put in more effort. I think a lot of people see that that's short sighted and lazy, and that the wiggers are basically robbing themselves of more money but they're satisfied so things probably won't change.

My ranking of the fishtank seasons as a day 1 watcher. I'm a degenerate hellhouse advocate fyi.

Season 2
Season 1
Season 3
Bloodgames
Season 5
Bitchtank
Season 4

Maybe season 5 could have ended up higher if the final days weren't so slow and boring

Contest starting back up!

This is my first season watching - I had heard about it before but never tuned in because I heard “Sam Hyde” and assumed it would be actual dark shit as you said. I don’t hate Sam but having Bam as a host makes this show way more marketable to the average person.
At one point in season 2 Sam was laying on his back with a camera pointing up at Tayleigh's crotch trying to get her to pee herself for a point when it was already mathematically impossible for her to win and she didn't know it. That's the kind of shit I would like to avoid in the future. When you fuck with the fish and humiliate them too much it just ends up giving the audience the ick unless you end up giving them a fuck load of money (they didnt).

This season has been pretty close to hitting the perfect amount of torment for me. They just needed to distribute it a little more evenly.

Back when they did the psychic readings on Alex B (and he was freaking out because he thought they were satanic) Bingo said she knows Reiki and described how their mom basically reiki’d away their TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome). Unironically I think bingo and bongo could compel kooky rich people with their story and charge dumb amounts of money for these services

As we officially begin the final challenges of the final day, just want to say it's been another fun season with you guys. Looking forward to the reactions as well as the post season discussion. I've got a lot of pent up thoughts that I can't wait to autistically dump all over this thread.

holy SHIT Drake shaving his head as I finish writing this. My God
