I like flags.
My favorite favorite national flag is the Union Jack. That might be surprising because I fucking hate the English, but there's a reason they put the flag on fucking everything. It has good color cohesion, very memorable, distinct from far away, simple enough a child can draw it, and most importantly: it accurately represents the land and people it flies over, as it is a combination of the Irish, Scottish, and English flags.
Flags are important. People like symbols. People rally under symbols, put it on things they wear, on vehicles they own. They provide a message and project power of the organization they represent.
I also really, really like flags that can be turned on their side and used as banners. It is an excellent design choice.

Tri-colors can do this, but the only good tri-color is the french one, as Napoleon basically invented nationalism and a flag to wave to go along with it. That makes the french tricolor historically more significant. The rest are fucking boring. Nordic Cross flags are OK.
The Estonian Flag and the Icelandic Flag stand out as two good flags that follow popular patterns that are otherwise boring.

All flags that quarter another flag are shit. Left is current New Zealand flag, right was a very good candidate that somehow lost.

Japan's flags are great. All of them match and are nice colors and symbols.

Post some flags. Here's a flag I made for Germany when it decides to stop using a sad sunset as a representation of their country.

Oh and in case you're wondering, the absolute worst flag I have ever seen is this.

Unsurprisingly, they did not gain independence. This is because their flag sucked.
