I like the confederate national flag the Stars and Bars.

Out of all Africa's flags, Angola's is the one I like the most

Good colour combo and a symbol that borders on overdesigned but manages to not be too gaudy....unlike fuckin Mozambique whose flag is as much a crime against humanity as any niggerland genocide

Tri-colors can do this, but the only good tri-color is the french one, as Napoleon basically invented nationalism and a flag to wave to go along with it. That makes the french tricolor historically more significant.
This isn't quite true. Napoleon had nothing to do with the tricolor, the actual story is more interesting. Red and blue were the traditional colors of Paris, and worn by the militias that stormed the Bastille. After the king agreed to a constitutional monarchy, the Marquis de Lafayette (yes, that one), as leader of the militias, proposed adding the royal white to the cockades and it all grew from there.

As a proud Dutchman, I must also protest the notion that the French one is the only good tricolor. We invented the fucking thing, and it has a history going back to the 14th century. The tricolor has become a bland thing because of all the countries copying and cramping our style.

More on topic, I quite like our modern naval flag, or the 'dubbele geus' for doing something unique:

Somalia's flag is easily the best African flag.

Okay, also the original dutch tricolor is good, but not the modern one. The orange is very special and I don't know why they use red. The amsterdam flag is also nice.

Why blue-white for Germany? Blue has never been part of Germany's national colors. Reminds me more of the UN than anything else.

Black-red-gold is important as it represents the liberation from the evil Frenchies:
From the darkness of servitude, through bloody battles, to the golden light of liberty.

I feel Kenya's flag deserves an honourable mention for making the pan-African colourscheme work best.

No joke, the folk answer is that the light orange would fade very easily and wasn't easily distinguishable, and red dye was a lot cheaper anyway, so swamp jews did what they do best and cut corners.

On the topic of Dutch flags, Limburg easily has the best of all the provinces:

A lot of the others are dogshit, however:

Guelders

North Holland

Flevoland

No idea why they chose such godawful designs when there's so much history to work with. Perhaps that's the reason though, since its hard to find a unifying symbol in areas that were historically divided into little city-states.

Prussia! It's simple, has lots of nice variations and screams authority

Honestly I have never been a fan of flags that just slap a coat of arms/seal/whatever on a generic design. It winds up feeling simultaneously overdesigned and lazy. Personally I think Germany should have taken one of the nordic cross designs that were floated around after both WW1 and WW2 instead of its current tricolor

That would be the only thing worse than the modern tricolour tbh.

Maybe, I fully admit my "Black flag with red detail/stripes" bias is at play here and I barely have any sense of aesthetics to begin with

Also just gonna shill the final flag of the Roman Empire, the banner of Palaiologos in the 14th-15th centurys
