I remember flesh joining in on the thing regarding the whole "progress pride flag was invented on /pol/ to own the sjws" discussion which is a great litmus test as to whether someone actually hung out on /pol/ back before 2016 or if their only experience was downstream on other platforms. (No, the flag was not invented in 2013 on /pol/ it was invented by some queer weirdo in 2018, a guy claiming to be a /pol/ regular for longer than /pol/ ever even existed in 2024 is not proof of jack shit)
Of course, he thinks that twitter is now 4chan, because to him and to many 4chan is synonymous with "cool" in internet culture.

Tumblr just became Tumblr for 30 year-olds. A lot of the art students and creative souls who didn't do NSFW or didn't hinge their entire lives on politics stayed after the porn ban, and now it's just a goofy blogspot for neurodivergents who matured enough. I've seen posts talking about lifting with your knees that get 40k notes for being sound advice.

I used to browse 4chan for years before signing up here about a year ago when it got hacked. It was really, really bad and I barely think about it anymore. It was just porn porn porn contrarianism porn porn porn. There was almost no sincerity to be found anywhere and everything moved so fast it felt pointless to post because it was gone in just a few hours (not to mention endless/unsolvable captchas). I really don't think it was just the mods who were responsible for that site's steady decline in overall quality. I remember that site being much better when I discovered it around 2007, but that era is never coming back.

Bluesky is just laughable. Every time I read someone's profile, it's always the same horseshit: rainbow flags, furries, cartoon porn, and commies. It's very predictable and not worth my time.

I frequented 4chan when I was in highschool, which would have been around the same time as flesh, (if he did and isn't lying for clout of course) to give a long story short the site was already going to shit in the mid 2010s. Bot traffic skyrocketed post-brexit and the 2016 election made large things worse. I ended up migrating to 8chan because it was much less trafficked by bots, their /b/ had the genius rule of only allowing 1-2 dedicated porn threads, and it's /x/ was actually interesting esoteric shit and not just a guy asking how to summon a succubus over and over again. Then of course, christchurch happened and 8chan was nuked.

I frequented discord around this time which a lot of other people from 4chan moved to. Tumblr was still thriving around that time but the banning of NSFW content on tumblr is what caused the mass migration of tumblrites to twitter, turning it from a normie celeb site into tumblr 2.0, up until elon bought it. After elon a lot of the tumblr types moved to bluesky.

I started on message boards during ye olden days of fark.com. Went to Something Awful when it was fresh and new, then switched over to 4chan after I got tired of being banned for noticing that black people are loud in movie theaters. Left 4chan when every single thread became ironic rage-bait countersignaling. Just went back the other day to try to get an actual human being's opinion of the new Mortal Kombat movie and I couldn't last 5 minutes. That place is Hell and everyone in it deserves to be there.

I don't understand these people. Yeah, you browsed an image board a decade or so ago, what of it? Lots of people did it and it didn't you were cool or anything, at best it meant that maybe you were spending too much time on the Internet or at worst that you were a faggot for spamming BBC threads.

Also, the introduction of 4chan and other IBs to the normies was a disaster, not it that they destroyed those sites, these were already crumbling for other reasons, but rather now anything they don't like its "4chanified".

Maybe the idea is that places like 4chan used to be among last bastions of free speech and you could get away with saying "unpopular" things about race, sexuality etc. so browsing those can be seen as a badge of honor to young people. I've spent most of my life glued to the screen and I honestly couldn't name any message board similar to the Farms in 2026 AD. I think I can understand this, seeing how Josh has to fight tooth and nail just to keep the site up.

Before I signed up here, I was looking for ways to circumvent Google's utterly busted VPN countermeasures (couldn't log in to my account, they wanted my phone number) and I got banned on three different forums in a day because they probably thought I was trying to do something illegal. Not an issue here. What a relief!

My experience is basically the same. I just avoided /b/ for the most part.
The "poser" shit we're seeing (IMO) is downstream of people like Elon who have an idealized "internet bad-boys with hearts of gold" of 4chan. Granted these grifts are a result of people like Elon seeing this mystique form around the site around 2017-2018ish and ran with it. The motivation to brand twitter da nu 4chin makes sense with this reasoning.
Also an aside; I'd wager 95% of those DC interns saying they "got their political awakening on /pol/" are full of shit. In a pool of a couple of pointless small talk "networking" mixers, 4chan has come up maybe twice and it was obvious they were stupid kids who're talking out their asses. Why they'd lie about being a loser is beyond me.
Im sure the real number is greater but you wouldn't catch me admitting that irl.

I saw someone say that "all 4chan is today is a bunch of r/the_donald refugees larping as "anonymous" and I think that's the best way of describing it. A bunch of people posting BNWO shit and and bunch of people getting mad at BNWO shit.

It's crazy how a website that is 90% bots and 10% people arguing about blacked porn has become the thing that losers lie about having been losers for hanging out at
 
Based on my brief experience, 4chins was a place to almost immediately be exposed to CP and animal snuff unbidden.
That must have been about a decade or more ago, and I never posted. Anyway, I learned my lesson, and sometimes I go to 4plebs to noodle around.

This reminds me of Pat Boivin of Best Friends Play (defunct Canadian video game channel on Youtube) who's notoriously short with short legs. I'd say he's realistically about 5', but that was apparently too much for some Internet detective:
