Food that makes people around you shudder - Savor the flavor

spicy-thai-chili-300x300.jpg

I have to treat this stuff like a biohazard if I eat it around some people. The packet gets put in a baggy before I throw it away so the smell doesn't make anyone sick. Sometimes need to change the trash bag so the smell really isn't around.

Just spicy tuna, guys. No need to act like it's nuclear waste.

I love kimchi, Christmas pickles, sauerkraut (and the juice), good blood sausage/puddings and pickled garlic. My family bitches about the smell, but then eats with me. It's funny. Sometimes the stinkiest stuff is the best. I'd love to try durian fruit!

I had to look up Christmas pickles and holy shit those sound amazing. Like sweet spiced pickled beets but more.

Koolaid pickles are also the shit. I think they're more of a southern or redneck thing because I've waxed poetic about them to people where I am now and gotten some weird fucking looks. You're never too old for koolaid pickles but apparently you can be too suburban lol.

Strong fishy things I'm down with. Fish sauce and kippers have been mentioned a few times but my family got me some gentleman's relish a while ago and now I go out of my way to make sure I keep some in the fridge. It's like the anchovy paste version of marmite and it's absolutely heavenly spread over buttered toast or on one half of a bagel smashed down over the cream cheese half.

Christmas pickles are awesome and so easy to make. They go great with a lot of rich, porky food like bbq ribs, good baked ham, etc. ! Putting them on a sandwich with said meats is divine!

I really like pickled eggs. It's a boiled egg that's been sitting in spicy acidic brine for weeks, so it has this distinct flavor to it. I also like kombucha and homemade switchel. My wife can't stand either drink, mainly because of the funky vinegar/acetic acid taste/smell. Also because switchel has molasses in it and I quite enjoy molasses much to her chagrin.

I am one of the very few people I know that loves anchovies. Especially on pizza. It's almost like a cliche in movies, TV shows, etc., for a character to say "Hold the anchovies!"

I also like Shit on a Shingle (chipped beef in white gravy over toast). A lot of military vets agree with me on this, but I know a lot of other people that hate it (including my late mother).

I get tired of them halfway through and unfortunately not many people will agree to put them on half a pizza since their strong flavor permeates the rest. It's a great ingredient in other things like salads, though, and anchovy sauce is in a lot of things, with a flavor much like Southeast Asian fermented fish sauces, which I also like. Cooking with fish sauce always makes the whole house smell like fish and people can't stand that.

Even if you add it when someone is looking people shudder at it. I like the Thai style fish sauce but Vietnamese is good as well.

I love pasta and ketchup. It's like an actual meal but twice as lazy!!

Also Szechuan pepper chicken feet dontjudgeme
