Formula 1 Discussion - And favourite driver?

Vettel's going to run for political office on the Green Party ticket in Germany.
You heard it here first.
Well considering that the current Green minister of Economy wants to replace Russian oil with coal in Germany he would fit right in.

On another note do you think the porpoising debate will die down soon as we enter the "smooth track part" of the season? And might Mercedes get back to the top? Their car is something of a wild card as it'soperating windows seems to be very small. Also, fun fact: Hamitlon is nearly 100 points behind Verstappen now. Nearly 4 wins should Verstappen get DNF's each race.

I think it's important to differentiate between bouncing because it's a bumpy surface and porposing due to aerodynamics. Sky have done a very poor job of describing the separate phenomenon (Ted fucking around on a skateboard demonstrates nothing other than the shear lack of anything important anyone on that team has to say).

In the case of physical bouncing due to the need to maintain a known distance between the floor and the track the cars are being run stiff, coupled with much smaller sidewalls bumps on the track are harsh on the driver. Hitting a pot hole at speed even on nice soft road car suspension sucks, the tiniest bump on very stiffly sprung racing cars hurts.

Porpoising is an aerodynamic phenomenon where the closer the floor gets to the track the greater the aeroload which suck the floor lower. Eventually though the airflow through the "tunnel" between the track and the floor is squeezed too much and the nice smooth laminar flow "stalls" (becomes turbulent). That abruptly drops the aeroload on the car causing it to rise up. That rise then "reattaches" the flow through the "tunnel" and sucks the car back towards the track surface. Then it stalls again and so on.

The bouncing can start porpoising but it is not the cause of the porpoising.

At Baku (and to a lesser extent Monaco) the thing that was wrecking Hambone was the physical bouncing on a bumpy surface.

In theory at a smoother circuit they can try and run the suspension stiffer because the bumps shouldn't be as painful and the ride height more predictable. That should help to reduce the porpoising simply by trying to damp it out. Though would maintain an amount of bouncing since no surface is totally smooth.

At smoother surfaces though the "tunnel" should be a more consistent cross section, while that should give more downforce it should also mean easier stalled airflows and faster reattachment.

If Mercedes (and others) are truly struggling with porpoising then a smooth circuit could actually make that effect worse (see the nice smooth surfaces of Bharain and Saudi). However if its the phyilsical bouncing then they will be much better.

Yeah, at least Seb is putting his money and time where his mouth is. He's doing events at schools, organising events, doing litter picking and using public ransport (debatable how much that is "for the cameras"). He even admits to being a hypocrit where hambone would have jumped right to racebaiting.

I don't agree with his stance on a lot of issues but at least he's doing something to further them and responding to fair criticism.

As you say Hambone's crowing is the standard corporate stance these days and anyone daring to critique his position will be met by chimping that he probably sent their way via social media.
Gotta say, I like his response. He admits to being a hypocrite, admits that his sport is not eco-friendly but underlines that F1 is working towards being sustainable and eco-friendly, while also saying that he thinks mining tar sands with all that rather nasty stuff attached (such as it affecting indigenous people and the environmental effects) is a bad idea.

Then again, I am a Seb fan, so I might not be entirely neutral on this matter...

Horner said Toto had a shitfit at the team bosses meetings because the Netflix cameras were there lmao.

Horner is great. I wish I got paid the big bucks to shitpost in real life.
So basically, Toto used that moment as some self-display as the team principal that is super concerned about driver safety for DTS?

Whoa. And here I thought I couldn't hate that stupid motherfucker any more.

Hambone is crying he shouldn't have to do any development work and merc should sacrifice their number 1 driver (in the championship standings).

Strange, I thought Lewis was the one testing out the new setup. That CAN'T have been a lie when he's clearly as committed to help the team out as he i-

Oh.

I hope Red Bull pulls 1 1-2 in silverstone with Leclerc on 3rd. Or Leclerc wins with Red Bull in 2-3 and Hamilton ends as 6th. Just to rub it in that his time is now over

And of course, Russell finishing ahead of him again.
Frankly, I'd even take a Russel win, if it meant Hamilton was somewhere in 6th or even further behind.
If there's one thing to make the brainless Britfans drop Hamilton for good, it would be Russel winning his home grand prix for the first time, while Prima Donna Bloowis was somewhere down the midfield.

Oh.
I like to think that every time there's a team meeting and the engineers start to say "We think we have a fix to improve performance" Lewis demands it go on his car because he's the best and he has to go fast and George can just wait his turn.

Juri Vips says a gamer word, now suspended from all team duties (Red Bull F2 driver).

He also said a pink hat was gay.

People starting to build the cross, will Liam Lawson and Jehan Daruvala be dragged in too?

Also Morrocan GP?

Not going to work, 1 it is not a street circuit and 2 Morocco isn't that rich.

I could do without a Moroccan GP, but truth being told, that layout isn't that bad. I like the long sweeping right and left turns 3 and 4 as well as that part before the startline, that seems like it's a segment where F1 cars go flatout full speed before going into turn 1. The track also seems to have some neat elevation changes and hills.

Could be a neat replacement for the Russian GP.

As for that F2 dude, way to throw away your career like that. I think the whole song and dance about "Oh no I did an oopsie, these aren't the values that I hold" stuff is ridiculous.
These canned replies are expected to be dropped, but we all know that it doesn't really matter. He can now only hope for this to blow over and be taken back by RB when no one looks.
If he was a promising driver, chances of him just being told to wait a bit before he can rejoin the project aren't that bad I guess.

It's ridiculous that his career might be ended by saying a gamerword once, but ffs, dude knows he's in line to be a professional racecar driver, dude should know that he needs to avoid controversies like this.

If anything, the main indication for any junior formulae driver is to never be anywhere with a hot microphone, lest what you say pisses off some the corporate flag americans.
Watching that clip, I legit thought to myself, if it wasn't a smart idea to have the game and stream on a ~3s delay, so that when you say the gamerword (or something similar), a wingman can just kill the stream, before that tidbit gets broadcasted. Or garble the sound in a way that makes it sound like the audio just crapped out for a second, while the audio is muted and replaced by white noise.

Just a little bit of Streamer OpSec.
