I get the feeling that Russell is way less popular than most other drivers, in say, the top 10. He’s one of the reasons why I didn’t really hate a Lando win. He might be a douchebag but he’s hardly the driver I’d side-eye the most. Next to George, kid’s got the soul of a poet.
Lando strikes me as a guy who has douche and whiny moments in the heat of the moment because he's extremely competitive. I think the hate comes from all the blatant favoritism he gets from the team and being British so the British media sucks him off. If he wasn't British, people would like him a lot more. Max has douchy chimp out moments and everyone loves him. In general, people are tired of British Bias and take it out on the recipients.

Russell, on top of being another recipient of British Bias, strikes me as an all-around douche. The "Tory Bastard" jokes might not be far off. He's just way too fake. He puts on a nice smile for the sponsors and then divebombs on the track and acts like it's never his fault. Not to mention that I can't remember the last time he was locked in a duel with the other top drivers before this season. The last couple of years he either drove around to a boring 3rd or won the weekend Mercedes got the setup right. Now it seems like Mercedes got the season right and the only thing he'll need to worry about is the Ferraris in the first 20 laps before they inevitably fall off and he cruises to a minute long victory. Say what you will about Lando, but he had to battle his teammate all season and Max at the end of the season. George has not proven that he can fight someone on equal ground.

Speaking of Max, he's completely checked out this year.

This is what I've said. Lando takes a lot of shit for being a boring winner and kind of a douche, but the fact that he could beat Verstappen at all should earn him some credit. The small margin by which he won should hardly be a surprise.

The problem I have with Russell is the same problem I have with Leclerc and Hamilton: they seem like prissy little bitches that court the spotlight for being hot and stylish. I have a deep disdain for "celebrity" athletes, as opposed to athletes who are celebrities. Verstappen can be an immature prick sometimes, but I respect the fact that he is all about the hustle and gets straight to the point when he wants to. He's the best damn driver on the grid because when he wins, he absolutely wants it. These other guys seem to act like they want it, sure, but it's just so awful that they might have to work at being a champion instead of mugging for social media.

That explains a lot about Hamilton too. He was quite likeable when he started out, but the constant ballwashing by the British media and his fans, along with being spoiled by having the best car on the grid for so long turned Hamilton into the biggest cockhead in F1 produced by the Brits since Nigel Mansell.

Nando isn't quite at that stage yet. imo he was easy to like back in his Twitch streaming days in the same way Hamilton was during his early appearances on Top Gear.

I didn't see it mentioned but Stroll's GT3 debut was this morning. He qualified 15th of 52 at Paul Ricard, proving once again that he has no business driving an F1 car.

He actually qualified P17 in Q2 with a 1:54.472 and his teammate qualified P10 in Q3 with a 1:53.676. His other teammate had a faster time in Q1, crossing the line with a 1:54.467 but only qualifying P28 due to a stronger field. The teammate in Q1 also had a heavier car with more fuel and a less rubbered in track.

Q1 (A) Q2 (A) Q3 (A)

He was the weakest driver on the team in qualifying.

Leclerc's brother outqualified him, qualifying P13 in Q2 with a 1:54.108. So did Max's simracing friend Chris Lulham, who qualified P10 in Q2 with a 1:54.007.

Pole was 1:53.049.

His team ended up finishing P48 out of 49 finishing cars, completing only 163 laps compared to the winner's 176.

Race Results (Archive)

Arthur Leclerc's team finished P19 with 175 laps completed. Chris Lulham's team finished P9 with 176 laps completed and 35.708 seconds behind the leader.

He also can't blame the car as the winner was driving the same car, an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 EVO, set up by the same team, Comtoyou Racing.

What you forgot to mention is that Stroll's team collected a combined penalty time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds. Among those there were a 220 second penalty for a collision, several for cutting the track and so on. Stroll's quickest time was just half a second slower then the fastest lap time.

I would also add that the people in Stroll's team, from what I know, only had a few hours of testing before they got into qualifying, with Stroll making this plan to get there during the Japan GP weekend and both his teammates driving the car for the first time, and that this is Boya's and Stroll's first time in GT3. (for further Verstappen comparison, consider that Max has tons of GT3 hours in sim racing and took more than 3 weeks to plan it)
And that this is the most competitive GT3 series out there, with the grid having Formula E drivers, Hypercar drivers, 24 hours of Le Mans winners, etc.
And that, because the car is fueled up at the start of Q1 and may not be refilled throughout quali, the car sheds weight and gets faster throughout the session, and Boya was nominated to run Q3. Stroll, running in Q2, was 17th fastest in a field of 57.
And as for Stroll's teammates, Boya and Mehri, the former took three shots at Formula 3 and the latter was at Marussia.

tl;dr don't disrespect the ABSOLUTE GOAT that is Stroll

But Stroll's teammate who ran in Q1 was faster (1:54.467 vs 1:54.472)....

You mean to say that the ABSOLUTE GOAT Stroll, on his first ever GT3 race entry with essentially no prior GT3 experience, managed to deliver a quali lap within 0.005 seconds of Roberto Merhi, who has over 30 race starts in GT3 cars since 2022, with at least 1 win and 4 podiums in that span?
I kneel

Notable nog Bubba Wallace is prone to chimpouts as well. At least Hamilton, as far as I know, has never intentionally right reared a guy for divebombing him and immediately tried to fight him.

I guess Assetto Corsa is better practice for sports cars than being a formula driver for 12+ years. Don't forget Lance owns and drives a fleet of luxury super cars in his private time, including a number of GT3 base model cars. Vantage, AMG GT R, Ferrari California, Huracan, 812 Superfast, P1, Aventador, Chiron, LaFerrari, DBS, etc. Apparently he drives the Vantage the most, which is the base model of the car he just competed in.

Enough with the Stroll cope. He stinks.
