Why not? They're all facing the same constraints. Shouldn't good drivers be able to adapt?
It depends. I've contended that a whole new set of regs favors younger drivers because they have less muscle memory for the older regs. So if everyone were the same age, I'd say sure.

If "good drivers" should be able to adapt, then why is Kimi out-performing George? I know I'm going to get a lot of smartass answers on that one, but the fact remains is that George is one of the best drivers on the grid, and talk prior to the season starting was that this would be "his year". Similarly, Charles is supposed to be just as good as Max according to some (I would contend no, but it's been said, so I'm taking it into consideration). So why hasn't he adapted?

And, if good drivers adapt, why is Max not beating the pants off of everyone else (my contention is that he's bottling it, but that's speculation)?

"Adaptation" is a nice idea, if it were all things equal, not just regulations.

Why F1 Is Flirting With an Impossible “Quadruple-Header” To Save Saudi Arabia

According to fresh reports, executives from Liberty Media and the FIA are actively “evaluating” a way to parachute the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix back onto the 2026 calendar. The problem? The only way to fit Jeddah into an already packed late-season schedule is to create an unprecedented, downright dangerous logistical gauntlet: four races in four consecutive weeks.
As of now, the 2026 season is set to conclude with a brutal, globe-trotting triple-header. Las Vegas Grand Prix (Nov 22), the Qatar Grand Prix (Nov 29), and the traditional season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (Dec 6). But former F1 driver Robert Doornbos had clarified something important back on Ziggo Sport’s De Stamtafel program. “They now say that they are moving Abu Dhabi by a week and that they are slotting Jeddah in between,” Doornbos revealed. “That means you finish the season with four races in a row – Las Vegas, Qatar, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.”
Can't an Iranian drone just fucking kill this fucking sand nigger from FIA?

Obvious answer is obvious, The current F1 regime is a great deal more concerned with generating shekels than the quality of racing on offer by an enormous margin.
The quality of racing on offer is the optimal long-term strategy for generating shekels, but why would anyone be concerned about the long term in this economy

For people who go on about "safety", they sure don't care about the risk of the drivers getting missiles dropped on them. Saudi capture of every single sport is absolutely disgusting. The people there don't even care about the sports, they just use them to show off how rich they are.

I think the cause of obsession with saudi BBC money is, apart for MBS, (((Liberty Media))), which I consider the biggest calamity that came upon F1, at least in the recent times. Only after they bought the Formula One Group, the enshittification accelerated, and yes I know:
- Bahrain was in calendar since mid 2000s
- crappy V6T "engines" were accepted in 2011 and introduced in 2014
- Walmart parking lot races were a thing in 1980s too, until Ecclestone realized this doesn't go anywhere

Still, street circuits weren't the majority of the calendar in place of fucking Spa. And we weren't subjected to cringe fests like Miami GP.
And lastly (why did I forget about it) all that BLM/racism/LGBT and net zero spergery came at the very least partially from them.

These corporate cucks never cared about the sport itself, let alone muh safety.

As for 60/40 power split from 2027: this is not enough. At best super clipping will be less horryfying (just wait for Monza and Baku). If you must put batteries in the car, make it like KERS in 2012

Honestly, I think the things that lead to Liberty Media controlling the show as opposed to someone who came up in the F1 world were 3 fold.

1. The involvement of major manufacturers in 99' when BAR got involved. This was the year the Privateer Teams's days were numbered. Too much money was splashing in the sport for midfield guys to keep up.

2. The banning and/or restriction of Tobacco money was a crippling blow for many teams because the money wasn't just for the teams, many cases the drivers were being paid meaning midfield teams could afford good drivers. I can understand the reasoning for it, but then when people say for ethical reasons when dodgy sponsors have been around since racing especially today with Gambling apps, Crypto, and having races in Gulf Countries with appalling human rights records.

3. The loss of privateers I believe is the biggest reasons and Bernie tried to prevent this. I believe the entrance fee for F1 in the 90s was half a million and you could start a somewhat competitive team in the sport with a good amount of money. When to tabacco left and the manufacturers joined, the loss of funds coupled with the sudden glut of big teams throwing hundreds of millions meant no longer an enthusiast would never make it onto the grid again.

The only thing I'm truly glad about modern F1 is a cost cap so it doesn't return to where Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes are spending well over a billion dollars a year between the three of them.
