Formula 1 Discussion - And favourite driver?

Hamilton finished 15 seconds behind Vestappen after a 10 second penalty. So either Vestappen would have beaten Hamilton on pure pace or he decided having a sulk was more important than salvaging 2nd.

Hamilton is back to being his own worst enemy with the silly mistakes and "the FIA are out to get me" nonsense. Last time it was because he was too busy focussing on the celebrity girlfriend and rap album and the "day job" was coming a distant second. Seems like this racial grievance crusade is a detriment to him.

The race director has decided to give a statement telling Lewis to get fucked. Lewis really is a petulant child, James has to come on the radio often to tell him to shut it and stop being a dick to Bono and apparently his handlers at Merc weren't quick enough to shut him up this time. As far as I'm concerned anything that unsettles him this much is a good thing.

He really has taken the message of BLM to heart hasn't he?

Break rule
Get punished
Cry that it is because they're out to get him, not because he broke a rule

Now we just wait the chimp out.

I wish, just once, Toto would come on the radio and remind Lewis how much he gets paid to drive the best car.
Or tell him if he doesn't quit whining he will be replaced by a Mexican. After all Perez is free next season. and I think Perez would also be succesful in this car. And who knows maybe it might make the 2021 season more interesting

Mick Schumacher and Calum Ilott are doing first test in the Alfa and Haas respectively at next GP and Shwartzman is testing at Bharain.

If I were Giovinazzi, Grosjean or Magnussen I'd be starting to pretty up my CV. Especially with Steiner saying in the interview that he's looking to the long term future to decide their lineup for next year and the Alfa boss saying Kimi has a seat if he wants it.

plus all 3 are having a test in the 2018 Ferrari at one of their test tracks to "prepare them for F1" which really suggests some or all of those 3 unfilled seats could be getting filled with new drivers.

Plus Ilott and Schumacher are battling it out for the F2 championship and the champion can't race the following season in F2. Ferrari won't be wanting one of their hot prospects to be printed out of F2 with no F1 seat available, going to DTM or endurance racing for a season kills single seater careers.

Given how much Grosjean sucks and how whiny he is about literally anything all the time, I was wondering what his team was waiting for. I guess they were waiting for this.
A team like Haas is a decent first step for a young driver, to learn the ropes and Haas would profit from getting, for instance, Mick, since he'd generate some exposure for their team, maybe even land them a few new sponsors.

Personally I think they're lining Mick up to go into Alfa and then Calum for Haas. Mainly because he's been doing all his testing, visits etc there. Alfa feels much more like a Ferrari feeder team than Hass, mainly because they're the same company while Hass is just a customer. I think they're hoping to have Raikonen in the car to help develop Mick which to be honest would be a great feel good story since Raikonen raced Michael on the track many times.

Grosjean and Magnussen both feel like placeholder drivers for Haas, and have done since day one. Now they have the potential to get some Ferrari development drivers in and no doubt the benefits from ferrari that come with that.

Honda drops out of F1 by the end of the season, so both Red Bull and AlphaTauri are without an engine supplier for next year.
Red Bull planned some longtime cooperation to go for the title in 2022, looks like they can almost bury that dream now.

I think it's the end of next season when Honda drop out but it still leaves them up the creek without a paddle. Merc won't want them, Renault won't touch them unless they pay through the nose after the breakdown in their relationship and that leaves Ferrari. I cannot see any new engine groups coming in just for next year as all the rules and spec change for 2022.

Oh right, must have misread. Yeah, even worse. That means Red Bull basically has to go into the '22 season without any experience with their new engine.

And you cannot see any new engine suppliers coming on board. A while back AMG and Aston Martin were pondering something but they are both linked in with Merc and Toto Wolfe bought a load of shares in AM a while back.

If this turns out to be a situation where they can only buy Ferrari engines, they might as well cut open the bottom of the car and have the driver power his car like Fred Flintstone.

We won't really know until spring 2022 what any of the teams have under the new regs and Ferrari have already wrote off next season. The FIA caught them cheating after Red Bull asked questions about their fuel sensor pick up allowing

Let's face it Honda aren't a racing company anymore and their heart just isn't in that place anymore. Once they had civic type-r and nsx, now they have cars you dread seeing Infront of you on the road because it'll be some oap doing 20 under the speed limit.

Red bull need to go buy themselves an engine manufacturer and get on it. Take a suitcase of money to Cosworth or similar and see what they can make.

Tsunoda's career just started to look a lot less fruitful. His nationality and Honda backing were a guaranteed route into an Alpha Tauri, though he is quick and the Red Bull driver program isn't exactly dripping in talented drivers.

I don't think Cosworth will enter the sport without the additional backing of an actual car company. Red Bull has immense cash but even they have their limitations on making a new engine. I think it's best to wait for a new engine spec and then focus on that. As for what Honda truly loves, I think they value their MotoGP efforts the most.

Maybe it's time Lada finally made its entry into F1 engine design.
Sure, the car might only do 100mph and needs two laps to reach that speed, but if something goes wrong, you can just hit it with a hammer and it'll run like a sewing machine again.

Man goes into a Lada garage:

Man: I want to complain about my Lada, it will only get up to 64.
Salesman: that's not bad.
Man: But I live at number 86.

Cossy was just my throw out suggestion, surely Red Bull could find some willing partner to try and spec up a 2022 engine. There are plenty of engine manufacturers out there (ok it's a massively shrinking area since they all just keep buying from eachother these days) but some company would probably jump at a joint venture with Red Bull (rather than a supplier customer arrangement).

Red Bull at very worst will have Renault engines in 2022. The regs for engine manufacturers state that they supplier that has the least number of teams must give engines to teams that don't have one. Mercedes has 4, Ferrari has 3, Renault has 1. Cyril also said that they would supply the engines to both RB and AT if that provision has to come into play. Add to that Mercedes wont give RB an engine as they are their biggest threat and well Ferrari isn't looking too great, it will have to be Renault (most likely), RB buying the Honda IP and making their own engine (possible, but unlikely) or a new engine manufacturer comes in (unlikely).

I also read there may be some clause related to Honda/performance or something and Max can escape his contract end of 2021. Will be interesting to see how this shapes up and what ripple effects Honda leaving will have on RB, Verstappen and F1.
