Shit, I miss Rocket Rams. Super fun movement without being overpowered. Jet Packs are fucking retarded.
It was one of many risk-reward items added as you had to rev the fucker up to even get going. Hell the hammer and kinetic blade also had charge ups, requiring you to think about how they are used. Do you used them to push into combat and risk a lack of exit, position yourself into higher ground or spam in one direction to flee? This season, especially with the Marvel nonsense now in play, has shown a lack of foresight into the weapons loops. Whereas the promotional items each had designed flaws. DBZ Cloud is very slow, Webslingers need to attach to objects and a tight swing radus. The Attack or Titan things also needed to attach to objects and had a fuel system.
Here are my takes on how things have transpired this past Chapter's loot-pool:
- We start with "Flow Berries" and "Flow Wine" to provide us a mild gravity shift that will span the rest of the loot-pool. This item would alter movement meta in later seasons
- Opening month woes. The grapple hook is a dud due to the sliding glitch cancelling the animation at random grabs, whereas the Riot Shield that didn't abide by the new movement speed EPIC attempted to implement. Both get patched with competitive players still seething at the new animation speeds
- The Ninja Turtles come save the day with four amazing movement items that borrow a lot of animation data from prior gear, also showcasing to EPIC that you could totally have the Lightsabres as a shop pickaxe at this point. Sadly it goes down hill from here
- Season 2 arrives! The mythic wings prove that most players on Zero Build don't look up. It also gave us the OP as fuck combo of Hade's chain and Cerberus medallion, which if mixed with Flow allowed you to zoom about the map without any care. Shock Grenades with Flow consumed also allowed for further movement
- And if fleeing with the souls of the dead wasn't annoying enough, Avatar's Air-bending ensured that you'd constantly be playing kiss chase with someone in the final circles. Assuming the Waterbending sweats didn't purge you from 70 miles away.
- Season 3 features silly cars, so why would you want any more movement tech? Never mind, we added Nitro (which you can get unlimited amounts off via a barrel glitch or from a medallion) and Nitro fists that allow you spam into any direction, with a hit damage combo of around 125. Oh and we've also got Shockwave Grenades and plenty of Flow too!
- It's than all made redundant because with Magneto's gauntlets, you can intentionally position yourself so high into the sky with his levitation perk and kill anyone with splash damage from heaven itself.
- Pirates came I guess? A very forgettable event and item set
- Season 4 has provided us a Jet-pack which can be reset via crouch slide cancelling allowing for near unlimited boosts, with various sub weapons made redundant if you've got War Machines full kit. With more gimmicks planned soon given Ironman's items are also planned to return.
