I am torn. I almost always side with the aristocracy on principle but I don't care for fox-hunting as a pastime.

In retrospect, they were a terrifying glimpse into what the left would churn out when left unchecked and the same righteous militancy/lunacy would bleed into other areas, like gender studies....... and how they had a distressing number of allies who would white knight their most repugnant behavior as necessary to spread the message, and thus prosecuting them for, oh, I dunno, grave robbing was CLEARLY a political ploy to take their freeze peach.....

Hare coursing is illegal and neither of those activities are exactly held in high regard.

Fox hunting includes bizarre rituals like 'blooding' where those on their first hunt get the blood of the killed animals wiped on their faces. It's weird as fuck, but they get away with it because reasons.

That's..... not especially weird. People have been doing that with deer in the US for decades at minimum.
 
fox hunting is traditionally done with dogs with the end goal of socializing and/or obtaining furs and has a lot of rituals associated with it. i've been on a few fox hunts, but they differ between the UK and the US - in the US it's largely an issue of pest control historically in the same way you cull predators like coyotes or bobcats or boars in order to maintain the population within a healthy limit and protect livestock in the area.

traditionally, fox hunting in both locales do not involve actually killing the fox if it's gone to ground, and is merely an exercise in hunting for sport (catch and release). coyote and wolf populations are supposed to keep a handle on fox populations. isn't the European wolf extinct or something?

personally i'm more of a fan of boar/deer/moose/bear hunting. and spear fishing. trophy hunting and sport fishing is pretty fucked up in my opinion.

Foxes are beautiful and innocent creatures? No, they're murderous pests who keep people awake at 3.00 am with their vulpine sex festivals.

I bet if they were scaly and poisonous people like the above wouldn't give a shit. But because they're fluffy and have big sad eyes, the hand tragically nailed to the forehead performance comes out.
 
We should stop doing it to actual foxes but let furfags who claim to be foxes have a true vulpine experience like they deserve.
 
My stance on this is the same as it is on all animal rights: whatever they can ask us for, they should get.

I'm sure if it's because I know next to nothing about this sport, but I'm honestly not sure what makes fox hunting so much more cruel than regular hunting for stuff like deer. Is it because your weapon is another animal and not a gun? You'd think that the Brits would be okay with it as long as it doesn't involve a gun.

Eh, they're honestly more like dogs with the attitude of cats. Smart animals. Smarter than rats, anyway. Though I've heard they're quite pests in the UK.

Foxes are still going to be killed by farmers though, this way it brings money into the local economy.

I think it might be foxes are just cuter animals that remind people of their pet dogs or cats and the British have a strong affilation with them because of things like Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox, Basil Brush and The Animals of Farthing Wood.

Also here in Britain class is still a big issue and many dislike what the upper class do on principle.
