I was a Carpenter for about 5 years as well as a Mason for a year and a half ask me anything about building stuff
some fun little loopholes agricultural buildings do not need building permits in most states
if you live in a property off of dirt road 90% of the time the building inspector ain't showing up
you can get free lumber for most construction sites we throw out a lot of stuff and if you're a scumbag just drive up in a pickup truck load up your truck and drive off I've seen a few people do that on site time .

Why are modern houses such trash quality? (USA)
great question basically after World War 2 a bunch of extremely wealthy bankers realize something wait how do we get more loans and get people more into debt while we say the American dream is everyone owning a house we're building houses quickly is not the same as building houses of quality so we started developing a large amount of cheap ways to building houses known as balloon framing or platform framing
we used to do a lot more beam framing if you look at older houses they have massive timber beams in them and much thicker outer walls

Is adding 1/4 inch more material THAT expensive?
Half a inch plywood is about at 30 bucks but I haven't checked lumber prices in a good bit and 3/4 inch plywood is about I'd say 50.
Inch thick exterior plywood it's about 100 bucks last time I checked lumber prices may have gone down
the worst stuff is that zip system that stuff is extremely flimsy and I don't even know why it's allowed it's just so you don't have to put an air barrier like Tyvek.
For wire actually people using gypsum board which is actually a pretty good material it's very waterproof same thing with dense glass basically that stuff you can leave it out in the rain soaking in water for months and it's fine won't even degrade won't rot really really horrible to install though.

Ahhh timber framed homes are nice and solid. I'm sure you can still sled them but you'll get ass fucked by builders for daring to suggest something other than the cheapest possible illegal alien labor made cookie cutter house.

As for gypsum, a relative used to work at a gypsum factory. They had a mine out back and made a shitload of gypsum board / panels for homes.

Another alternative to it is plastic wire reinforced cement panel.

It looks like miniature plastic chicken wire that then covered in concrete.

Also, in your experience do homes still use copper wiring or are they back to the mediocre silver alloy wire trash from the 1970s?

In ovens and service wires yes but now it's coded in a much more dense plastic rubberized**** rather than that cheap fish scale like stuff from the 1970s.
Basically if you tried to do copper wiring service cable it would be so expensive and people would steal it service cable itself is 1000 bucks for a small length of it and that stuff is on gamely to put in especially when people think it's a really good idea to put in all the drywall first before we finish the wiring

the reason we don't use timber framing anymore I know how to do it it's really fun to do it you get these cartoonishly large mallets
it's basically the Mexicans don't know how to do it also the Brazilians are better than the Mexicans apparently there's a hierarchy of South Americans I've learned this.
And not all of them are terrible carpenters but you literally have to babysit them because if you don't babysit them they literally we'll start putting gaps in everything which is basically my job now I babysit Mexicans.

I love when people say they can't find good help anymore and the reason for that is they don't wanna pay what people are worth

Ugh too true.

No one wants to pay for competent labor or white people anymore, just the cheapest illiterate illegal that'll "work" for $20 a day

FUCK 🤬😡

Balloon frames homes are paper trash 🥺 good quality homes are barely made anymore.

FFS, can you please use some punctuation in your ramblings?
I know you are a tradesman but illiteracy isn't compulsory.

Is building with cinderblocks an mortar as easy as it looks?

Are you my high school English teacher.
But yeah a lot of blue collar guys can write pretty well and are actually very intelligent people I knew one guy who could recite Socrates from memory the white guys are actually fun to work with especially the neo Nazis because then you get to discuss Julius Evola.

this guy's actually one of my favorite dudes on YouTube who shows people how to do masonry work there's one other guy but he's a Mexican so you shouldn't give him views.

Mexicans aren't that cheap probably 160 a day about 300 for the good ones they don't come with tools though and they come in packs of four.
The Brazilian is the superior model of South American in my opinion and in their own opinions as well they don't steal things because if you steal something apparently in Brazil you get your hand cut off.

Blacks are better than Mexicans when it comes to carpentry because at least they speak English even the crackheads are better when you pay them to carry things.
The Asian is a pretty good model as well however you wanna go with the jungle Asians civilised Asians like the Japanese and the South Koreans they're just as expensive as the white guys because they have self worth.

Carpenters don't get any respect neither do Masons even though our jobs are harder than the electricians the plumbers and the HVAC technicians probably because we never had the bright idea to make everyone get a license to get into the carpentry trade which there should be a license as I always say if the electricians fail the worst that's gonna happen is a fire if the plumbers fail the worst that's gonna happen it's a bit of water if we fail in the Masons fail the building's gonna fall over.

On a scale of yes or no, would you say you are free? How are the secret reunions?

I understand if you prefer to answer in code

Accelerants and fibreglass.
Report more flame retardants in houses than we ever did older houses are a massive tinderbox not the stone ones but the old wood frame ones old wood is extremely flammable so is a lot of the old insulation
