France's government has proposed setting a formal age of sexual consent after two-high profile cases involving 11-year-old girls, according to the country's Equality Minister.

Equality Minister Marlene Schiappa said the government "has decided to set the age at 15," after consultations with the public and an expert panel. She said a new law would be presented to Council of Ministers -- France's equivalent of a cabinet -- on March 21.

In France, current laws criminalize sex with children under the age of 15 but prosecutors must prove that the sexual act was forced.

Two cases involving the 11-year-old girls provoked outrage in France after the alleged perpetrators were acquitted of rape.

In November a 30-year-old man was cleared of rape after the court found that the victim had not been subjected to "constraint, threat, violence or surprise."

In the other case, charges against a 28-year-old man, also accused of raping an 11-year-old girl, were downgraded to "sexual relations with a minor," according to French news agency AFP.

Schiappa said that the French President wanted to set the age of consent at 15 and she "had expressed the same preference on many occasions."

In October 2017, she told CNN that she wanted to address rape culture.

"We want to fix an age in the law below which it's always forbidden to have sex with children, with young girls. Below which it's always considered as a rape," she said in an interview.

The law, once implemented, will set the age at which a person cannot agree to any sexual intercourse at 15 and will criminalize any sexual activity with any minor younger than that age.

French cucks are at it again.

Wasn't this something we already covered a couple weeks ago? I could swear to god we already talked about this...

And IIRC, this isn't lowering the age of consent, it just replaces a few old clunky laws with more precise ones that actually make it easier to convict pedos by having a specific, unified definition and regulations.
I remember something along those lines.

The best age of consent laws are those that are tiered to allow people of similar ages to have sex. It's pretty silly that 18 year olds get on the sex offenders list as child rapists for having sex with their 17-16 year old girlfriends.

In November a 30-year-old man was cleared of rape after the court found that the victim had not been subjected to "constraint, threat, violence or surprise."

So its legal to be a pedo if you can find a girl to consent even though children can't legally consent?

Alrighty.

I think that's the part that they want to address. I'm pretty certain I've read up on that somewhere quite some time ago and it seems the consent laws are a clusterfuck atm, which is why they take a machete to it and rebuilt it in a more sensible manner.

How the fuck is this going to prevent more rape?
Up till now, one can take advantage of grey zones where technically, you are guilty of rape but due to some ridiculous loophole, you can twist it in a way that it was consensual. Somehow.
They are closing that loophole. The effect might not be that big, but I wouldn't be surprised if it managed to have at least a small effect. And even small effects are good when it comes to this topic.

This is pretty damn sickening. Nothing about setting the age of consent lower makes any sense- they're basically saying "we don't want pedos to feel like pedos, so we'll just change the laws for them." Imagine a 25 year-old being allowed to fuck a 15 year-old, that's the kind of insanity we're talking about here.

Sorry for the powerlevel but-
I know from personal experience that 15 year-olds are very, very easily manipulated by older and craftier men. People would not believe how much 1-3 years can make a difference in both intelligence and basic wisdom in spotting predators or sly behavior. There's a reason that the age of consent should NEVER be below 16, and you'd believe that would be common sense, but apparently not.
