When I was working in Africa I spent a few days in Djibouti. One of the "Night clubs" I went to was a bunch of cute French med students and doctors, US military, Peace Corps types and Foreign Legionaries. I hooked up a legionnaire from somewhere in the Baltics with a pretty hot med student who had been trying to flirt me up that night (I was married). The next night I showed up again and the dude and 3 of his friends had me leave the club with them so they could let me shoot one of their FAMAS' while my coworkers and I shared some Jim Beam with them that I had smuggled in the plane.

The dude I got laid told in a very drunken state later that evening "Do not let that whore learn my name. I gave her my disease."

I've always had a soft spot for them ever since
 
An interesting post-war documentary about the Free French contribution to the Western Desert campaign, with focus on Bir Hakeim, where the Legion's 13e DBLE played the starring role. The 13e DBLE comprised the bulk of the French garrison in Djibouti until 2011.
