My winning run with it was insane, I found weapon preigniter, burst laser 2 and ion blast 1 all before sector 3, then bought ion blast 2 and a pike beam. There was little challenge thereafter. If you're victory and cheevo/unlock farming, almost nothing beats the Kestrel B in terms of reliability.
like the other guy said, its so random and the game is so fucking easy until the boss that forces you into mostly the same strategies every time, plus having to fight it 3 different times is fucking obnoxious. but seriously, you can't win through boarding or drones or fire or draining the ship of oxygen and the power surges demand you beat it quickly every time so a lot of the "races" stereotypical strategies and ship designs are all but fucking useless. it is extremely addictive though, but i feel thats mainly because one you get the hang of it everything until the final boss is interesting and the fights and events short enough for you to get sucked in easily. There was little challenge thereafter.
More bosses would be great DLC if they ever came back to it. I'm eager to try things like the multiverse mod but maybe I should get competent at AE first.like the other guy said, its so random and the game is so fucking easy until the boss that forces you into mostly the same strategies every time, plus having to fight it 3 different times is fucking obnoxious. but seriously, you can't win through boarding or drones or fire or draining the ship of oxygen and the power surges demand you beat it quickly every time so a lot of the "races" stereotypical strategies and ship designs are all but fucking useless. it is extremely addictive though, but i feel thats mainly because one you get the hang of it everything until the final boss is interesting and the fights and events short enough for you to get sucked in easily.
the drones in phase 2 and the thing it does in phase 3 will usually fuck you more than their weapons, but it really does become a lot easier once you take out their missiles. that means you only have to worry about the lasers breaking through the shields and if they don't you're fine for phase one and can kill off as many people as needed and repair shit on your own ship before knocking out phase two.the flagships isolated weapon rooms easily.
I had an insane run with a drone recovery arm and drone scrambler + 3 drones. But if you have shit RNG you are fucked. And yet I can't stop playing. I'm gonna try Engi Cruiser A again.
Him being complete bullshit is such a good part of the game for me, as you have to try your best to prepare or you are fucked. Still with how long runs can get it's fair criticism.Yea I love the game, the combat and the lore/universe, but the final boss ruins it for me. It's such a bullshit tough fight that requires a specific strategy and a good run.
No skill, or good use of game mechanics will save you from this one.
Anyway it's at 75% on Steam and you can get it for $2.5
It's the journey to the fagship that's the most fun, seeing what RNGesus implores you to use this time. I have the most fun trying to adapt and run with whatever oddball weapons I find early in the run.Yea I love the game, the combat and the lore/universe, but the final boss ruins it for me. Pretty much, my definition of a bad roguelike is doing everything right and still losing because of a bad seed. In general the design of the final boss is really bad because you need to be a precog to know what would be affective against it. Else you come to the usual case where it outshields your shots and you lost before even starting.Yea I love the game, the combat and the lore/universe, but the final boss ruins it for me. Rock A is universally considered bad due to their heavy reliance on missiles. Possibly the only ship worse is Engi B. (Whoever designed this is an absolute sadist).I have to say that the rock ship and trying to do a run primarily off of missiles is the most frustrating thing ever.
At least with the engie ship I learned to appreciate drones and what they could do, I just get frustrated trying to complete a run with those slow-ass retards and their shitty weapons.
