All portraits made of William Shakespeare were painted post mortem. Because of this, nobody is actually 100% sure exactly what he looked like.

He was also notable for wearing an earring in his left ear, at the time this was considered a very outlandish fashion statement and gave him an overall bohemian look by that time’s standards. It is because of this many people consider him to be the progenitor of the modern day hipster.

Same thing with Christopher Columbus (his portraits were painted off of memory.)

To think, a country that often won't show toilets in games because of purity autism liked Drawn Together....
 
After a large battle, looters wouldn't just steal weapons, jewelry, money, clothes and boots from the dead, they would even ply out teeth, since most soldiers were relatively young and thus had good teeth that could be used for dentures.

In the early 19th century, this reached such a scale that the term "Waterloo teeth" was coined. Those were dentures made of the teeth of soldiers that died in Waterloo.

Similarly, bones of dead soldiers ground to dust were sometimes sold as cheap fertilizer, even as late as the inter-bellum period, meaning that the UK received fertilizer, in part consisting of the remains of their own soldiers.
 
Fun fact: KFC is huge in Japan and it's been tradition for like 50 years to celebrate Christmas with a bucket of chicken.
