There existed a theme park that was the largest theme park in the Southern Hemisphere when it was active called Wonderland Sydney from 1985 to 2004.
The reason it closed? The owner said it was because of world events.
No seriously, he blamed 9/11, the Bali Bombings, the collapse of Australias second largest insurance company, a bird flu outbreak, a financial crisis in Asia and the outbreak of a disease known as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) that broke out in China in 2002.
