I did remember the one of the livestreams that Mad Black literally called one person a faggot, which I did laugh at him for that, while - in his recent livestream - he called ISWV and KV faggots, which I didn't laugh at him for this. He actually trying making himself into one.

VAs goofing off isn't new there is probably tons of shit hidden out there. All this got me wondering if VA casts for some of the more innocent shows like Arthur, Dora The Explorer, etc have done shit like this. All this got me wanting to hear more.

One key difference here is that the gag reels/outtakes/VA fucking aroundery is under a different lens when it’s the official voices cutting loose in the original studio.

What the Funi crew did was complicated by the fact that they were doing characters that they licensed from a Japanese company, and the Japanese are very strict in their licenses in terms of what is and isn’t allowed. It would have been one thing for Mel Blanc to do a gag reel of Porky Pig talking dirty, since he was the official voice and was a Warner Brothers employee. Toei has an iron grip on what’s deemed acceptable for their characters to say and do, and following those rules is a big part of the license agreements.

Toei would not have known this was going on, because they would assume that Funi would be professional and follow the rules, as Toei stripping the license hurts Funi, not Toei.

And yes, the actors decided to cut loose and have some fun, but that kind of thing needs to be destroyed right quick, lest exactly what happened here happen again.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see anime dubbing contracts in general change if this gets traction in the Japanese news, and if it tightens down the way I could see things going, expect a lot of small time dubbing studios close their doors and a lot more dubbing get done at the big pro facilities.
There’s also the possibility of the big Japanese companies deciding that the time has come to go multinational and keep it all under their own umbrellas and kill the licenses totally.

I wouldn't be shocked if that also would roll back the clock on the volume of what gets dubbed. With only that which is the top of the pile really getting a second look at from studios and then marketed heavily to make up for the fact they're not doing cheap dubs for smaller titles.

Why do you have such an axe to grind with TFS? They're not part of the Funi clique destroying Vic, and they're one of the few groups of people with something to gain who aren't jumping into bed with KV, and just say they believe the court will settle it.

It's not rumors, by the way. It's just fact that TFS thinks of Chris as a personal friend, and are kind of star-struck by him. He shields them because he thinks they're funny, and they are at their root just a bunch of fanboys making fanvideos. Nick basically idolizes him as a voice actor. Even if he didn't offer them safe harbor from Toei, of course they'd buddy up to him. At least they're smart enough to know that taking official sides will damage them more than refusing to.

I'd say season 1 and 2 of DBZA are definitely fair use, but season 3 there is at least an argument to be made that it's a comedic dub, and not entirely transformative. I'm not saying it would hold up, just that 3 isn't on as stable of legal ground, likely due to Kaiser literally wanting to fuck future Trunks and not allowing things related to his wannabe boytoy to get too silly.

Trunks was supposed to be Tien 2.0. They wanted Tien to be the straightman in the series reacting to everyone else being weird, but he ended up flanderized so much that no longer worked. Thus, they brought in Trunks to replace him. He was originally going to be 'the actual DBZ Trunks accidentally landing in clown world', but they ultimately decided against that. I imagine someone in the Buu saga will be his replacement, since Tien is barely there and Trunks is gone. Adult Gohan, maybe? He hams it up during that saga in canon, but I guess they could use that as an excuse to flip the script as a joke.

I'm fully with you on this one, but I don't see him getting utterly destroyed like that. Scumbags like him rarely get what they actually deserve. I have no idea why, just how the world works.
