🦊 Furry Furry Convention Drama - Because you can't have a couple thousand dog fucking enthusiasts under the same roof without shit hitting the fan

Last year had a sword attack-- though I never looked into the follow-up much beyond that. If I recall, the victim didn't press charges.
Confirmed, the victim did not pursue the charges. I heard that part of the problem was that the victim could not return to Pittsburgh after the convention to do so.

Anthrocon is surprisingly mum about a lot of the incidents that may occur during the con, especially for its size. But the things that make it to attendee earshot are often blasted quite loudly on socials. The sword attack from 2024 was public news, and covered on all of the Pittsburgh news stations. It's hard to keep that kind of thing quiet.

This guy who's currently in jail was a former Staff member of Anthrocon for many years.

I wonder how this was done. Those lights are an 'art installation' that scrolls randomly generated lorem ipsum-tier 'poetry' ala Terry's God Words. Been there for yyyyyears. It never seemed like it needed Internet access and I wouldn't have bothered with setting it up for just this reason.

Of course they probably left it wide open. Artists.

Somehow I didn't notice this despite being there most of the evening. Interesting though.

Anthrocon seems to be relatively low in drama so far. Craziest thing I've seen so far was two homeless crackheads get into a fist fight.

Why do people always think they're somehow magically protected from cameras unless they "consent" in public places (and private places they aren't in possession of)? They are easily being recorded a dozen times over at all times in any of the spaces in a hotel or convention center that isn't a hotel room or bathroom. Why aren't they screaming at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. from constantly video recording them from entry to exit when they shop? People they'll never even meet or know about have access to that footage to do ... whatever they want with.

It is entirely legal to photograph someone in public spaces without their consent. Always. Distasteful or not. It's legal to do in private as well so long as the owner consents (they're free to ban photography as well, while still taking photos/videos themselves -- it's their property).

It's especially insane for someone to go to a convention -- a gathering of presumably like-minded people in a convention center -- focused on dressing up in fancy costumes, and where lots of photos are always taken by enthusiasts and non-broken people, and expect not to be photographed. What the actual fuck is wrong with these stupid people?

If you're going to a con, any con, in-costume, people WILL take pictures of you. Sure, lots will ask first and want to be in it with you, but a lot will also just walk up and take pictures without saying anything and they're 100% allowed to.

Hell, it's happened to me a bunch of times back when I went to cons in-costume. (Though luckily it was just because people liked my armors and not because I'm a notorious furfag that wants to fuck animals and smells like shit such as this individual).

I can't imagine how retarded you'd need to be to show up, as an already well-known freak, in a public space like this, in the exact same outfit that people already associate with you. That's some Kero the Wolf level stupid.

Not even just this, but he specifically joined the fursuit parade with the explicit intent of showing off his ugly as fuck fursuit. And then he's shocked that people take pictures? The whole fucking point is to be seen by people, show off your costume, and yes -- be photographed. He should especially know this considering he is a well known "villain" in the fandom so of course people are going to point him out.

Baffling levels of stupid.
