The Ocean Shores, Washington-based convention Furvana has been in a bit of an odd situation over the last couple of days, and admittedly, it doesn’t seem to be the furries to blame for once.
For context, Furvana is in early September and isn’t run directly inside a hotel like most furcons; it’s hosted at a proper convention center. Because of that, booking a room in the “main” hotel isn’t as crucial, because if you can’t get a room there, you can usually just stay at another nearby hotel. That said, Furvana’s main hotels still offer a discounted room rate, so they’re preferable. And that’s where the problem starts when you look at their choice for the main hotel over the last few years: the Shilo Inn & Suites. Here’s a May 2025 archive of the convention’s page about it:

This private information is unavailable to guests due to policies enforced by third-parties.

This reminds me of that other con that was in a hotel that was literally infested with visible mold and other shit. Furpocalypse, I think? Something in New England, IIRC.

Yeah the con takes place in Connecticut.
The moment the con ended that year the place closed down for good. It was bought up by a holdings company they just wanted the land as an investment and didnt maintain the hotel. Half the hotel was sectioned off because it was on the verge of being condemned.
You can find urban exploration videos of the hotel and still see con stuff laying about.

Following up on my previous posts (1 2) we're now ten days out from Denfur, and the room block is emptier than ever. Every single room/night combination is available. This is more open than before--are people cancelling rooms as we draw closer to con time?
The con's official Telegram chat has several people trying to find people to fill the rooms they've reserved, and getting no response. They'll have to cancel some of them and merge together, meaning even less rooms sold in the end. I am ever so curious to see just how low attendance will be, and what the financial impact on the con is from failing to fill the block.
Other assorted minor happenings:
It came to my attention just today that Denfur is happening over the same weekend as Megaplex, another furry convention twice the size in Florida, which could partly explain the seeming lack of interest in Denfur. We shall see soon enough.
These screenshots may not mean much to you, because you can't tell that unavailable rooms would be greyed out rather than green. But here they are anyway.
Other assorted minor happenings:
There was a bit of confusion for people who had submitted applications to do panels at the con. These applicants received only an email saying that one or more of their submissions was approved--but without specifying which, for people who had submitted multiple ideas. They were told to wait until the complete event schedule was posted and figure out for themselves what was approved or not. Hope nobody needed significant prep time for their panel. Implied also is that there was no back-and-forth regarding scheduling, and indeed some people have been complaining about where they were placed in the schedule, but now it's too late to change.
No prior communication, you get what you get. And the people arranging the schedule don't understand that "before this other panel with no buffer space" means immediately before, not just any time. Too late to fix now, oh well.

The people running the con have said in advance this time that there's no fursuit parade and no last night dance. They are claiming that the lack of a dead dog dance is normal for them. Unless my memory fails me, this is a lie, as every year except 2024 had one.
As con quality goes down, the price has been going up. $90 for the full weekend this year, as much as $70 for a single day. And the con won't even bother with an explanation like "hotel costs went up" or any other "we had no choice" framing; they just say "yep everything is going up" i.e. we're charging more because we can.
It's possible that I'm simply uninformed here, but I'm not aware of any con other than Denfur that regularly does discount specials for attendance costs. 20 percent off for Pride, use this discount code, etc. Implicit in discounts is the fact that they have enough margin to accommodate a discount--in other words, they were overcharging to begin with. That was exactly my thought the moment you mentioned the date. Going head on against Megaplex, one of the most well known and popular party cons, is probably a really bad idea and is going to cause issues with attendance.
Would probably get a better response in the Furry Fandom and Drama General thread, for future reference.

I do believe that someone should get in contact with the staff of this furry convention and alert them that there is a german cat-fucker that will be trying to put zoophile stickers up everywhere

Eurofurence is kinda known for having a lot of zoos going to it and i believe even one works/worked staff for ages.
Hell, i actually can't think of a single furry con without zoophiles in open attendance. If they outright banned zoos it would probably halve the attendance.

The Great Canadian Moose-Fuckery Summer Camp/Convention!
I noticed that Camp Feral is happening up in the Great White North. They're having a Summer Camp in the middle of nowhere. Imagine the unchecked debauchery going on? At least they won't try any Moose-Fuckery in risk of being gored by giant moose horns. Maybe the bears, wolves and coyotes will hunt and drag off the carcass of some Fursuiter from the camp and feast on it? Perhaps not,? The foul smelling suiters would be enough to deter any hangry animal that consuming them would be detrimental to their health. I was going to make a Possum Lodge reference, but I don't wish to insult The Red Green Show by comparing them to Furries. It still makes you wonder what kind of Schitt goes on there (no offense Horace and Roland Schitt)?
