I always wonder what could have been with him. Shame he went to Spain and became a playboy. Not to mention, bulking up is a fucking death sentence to a pace based player, he was wrecked with constant injuries after that.

Still, he gets to live on the golf course and is rich beyond my understanding, good on the lad for getting paid in that shit system and leaving happy enough.
He went to spain, won a bunch of trophies, got jacked, and played tons of golf while making millions. He lived every man's dream right there

I think he's just another case of a world class player who could have went down in history as an all time great. FIFA 100 type of player, to be spoken of for generations. Instead, despite the glittering career he's had, he's someone who could have done even more. That just speaks to his quality we all know he possessed. And that's the part that gets people. We all saw what he did at Tottenham in that 12/13 season, we knew what he was capable of. And it isn't a Hazard situation either, Bale went to Madrid in his prime, and some of those sides he played in? He could have done more.

Whether it was a falling out with Zidane, with the fans, playing 2nd fiddle to Ronaldo, him phoning it in because he felt accomplished and paid, who knows? Getting paid and living the life is great for the player, but for neutral spectators and supporters alike, to us the conversations aren't about who got paid the most, it's who made the biggest impact in the sport. Gareth Bale was a player who should have took off to another stratosphere. Maybe he was better suited as the guy (ala CR7) in a side, who knows.

We will never know but I can't fault the guy for the actions he made. But if I were in his shoes, idk if I would have done anything different. Especially after winning the champions league multiple times and that run in the 2016 euros with Wales. Unless you are inhuman like CR7 and Messi, I don't think you can keep that competitive drive going. I would cash out and pursue something else to keep my sanity

I don't see him as a major part in winning the trophies he won, he spent a lot of time injured/golfing. I think going to Spain is always a mistake if it's one of the two giants, because it kills that drive to win when winning comes so easily. I think for outsiders (I have no feelings for the teams he played for other than enjoying the games, my team is nowhere near that level so doesn't matter who wins, just enjoy) he had this crazy potential to be something special, one of those rare gems that shine even in the highest level of play. Yet he seemed to just coast it. Bit like Michael Owen in many ways, Bale with his golf and Owen with his horses, and making strange videos. I guess for some of these fellas football is just a means to an end, and I have no issue with that, just remains one of those "what could have beens".

I think Naymar is the same, for vastly different reasons, he could have been something special. It could also have been he was WAY overhyped from his Santos days. Not say he was shite, just that he never really lived up to the hype, but perhaps the hype was too much for any player. Remember he was touted to take the torch from Messi and become this godlike footballer, doubt anyone could live up to that to be fair.

I can kind of understand Bale saying fuck it in Madrid after a certain point because Madridistas are amongst the most ungrateful group of supporters on the planet.

It would appear than United have finally gotten through to sign Frankie De Jong.

Other news of note
Minamino joins Monaco from Liverpool. Somehow Liverpool made a profit on their 6th choice winger
Arsenal are going hard to sign Lisandro Martinez after securing Gabriel Jesus. Would solve the left back issue
Alphonse Areola has signed for West Ham. Transferred from PSG of all places
Sterling rumored to be going to Chelsea

United seem pretty desperate to sign him even after he's made it clear he wants to stay at Barcelona. I think they'd probably be better off using that money to sign a few cheaper options and rebuild their midfield. Why spend 85 mil on a player that doesn't even want to be there?

The Ajax™ connection®® man!

In other news, Dybala is now a free agent. Really hope he gets picked up by a club that's a good fit for him.

I'm hoping the deal with Inter falls through and he goes to Milan. They play a 4-2-3-1 and he would fit nicely as the number 10. Now that Inter have Lukaku back, I'm not sure Dybala would even start as they play a 3-5-2 and I assume Lukaku and Martinez would resume their partnership up front.

I thought he might make a move to the prem months ago but he seems intent on staying in Italy.

On this day in 2010:

Can't even imagine what the shitstorm would be like if this happened today. It was big enough at the time, and if it happened now - with even more attention on football and more militant dindus the world over praying for Black Victory - God knows what the reaction would be to a guy accused of racism cheating to deny an African team advancement.

Well they will need to prove that VAR is racist since the "foul" leading to the free kick was the Ghana player tripping over himself and there were two Ghanaian players offside during the play after the free kick was taken. I wouldn't mind if VAR is binned because of something like this though.

The Uruguay player next to Suarez (Fucile?) was also trying to stop the ball with his hands as well and it's more blatant since Suarez can make an excuse of "I'm protecting my face". Great job though for pretending not to know when red carded and the celebration after Gyan's miss.

Ronaldo apparently wants to leave United, so expect to hear a lot more about how they're better without him, actually. Hope they enjoy having a social activist be their top scorer with 8 (eight) goals next season.
Bayern already said they don’t want him. Doubt Chelsea, psg or Madrid want him. His options are very limited, nigga is probably stuck at United.

Rumblings that Chelsea are potentially interested. Which means Chelsea aren't interested but another club is actually interested so this story was leaked in order to get some rush to sign him. Either that or to make United commit. Thats usually how this goes

As a Leeds supporter, our midfield of Adams and Roca are relegation quality. Adams isn’t even the best midfielder on the us team and I would have rather have gone to Yunus and Mo Camara.

Adams is a quality player though. Might not be the best in the US team but you shouldn't be disappointed with the signing. You just need more players to come through the door over the next 2 months

I just think him and Roca together is a bad pairing. Their both rather soft and haven’t been in a physical league. These are apparently the only 2 mids we will sign which raises a lot of questions at a crucial position.

There is no way you guys don't sign more if you sell Raphinha
