So do we now get the 2036 Olympics in Berlin again, because... oh wait oops...

But, yeah, I agree, for unstable and economically weak countries hosting a World Cup should be off the table. Just look at South Africa or even Brazil, most of the stadiums they built or renovated for the tournaments aren't even really used anymore. In South Africa some of the stadiums have become legit lost places.

Sorry if this offends anyone, but developing countries should have other issues than hosting a sports tournament.
To be quite honest, I agree. Back when we got the 2014 World Cup, it was clearly a move from Lula and the Workers' Party as a way to flex their power and the supposed economic growth. It never dawned on any of them that organizing such a nationwide event is incredibly costly, even for first-world countries. Didn't Montreal spend the better part of the last 40 years still paying the accumulated debt of hosting the '76 Olympics? Now elevate it to the fifth power due to also hosting the 2016 Olympics and you get the idea of how things worked out here. It wasn't even the biggest money sink that the Workers' Party years gave us, but that's delving into too much politisperging already.

At the very least, the stadiums are still receiving good use. Well, except mostly the ones in Brasília and Manaus, because those cities don't have top-tier teams and sizeable fanbases to fill them. They're often rented out to the bigger teams so their respective states can justify keeping them as they are.

Hasn't Neymar has also spoke about liking the MLS as it has longer breaks, better weather and he can "look after" his sister more often? I am sure he'll end up playing for New York City at some point before he regresses too harsh. Go the Beckham route and maximise his market appeal, especially within the South American demographics.
Haven't heard of that, but wouldn't surprise me if he moved to the States after he runs his course in Europe.
As I said before, he's in the downturn of his career, and once he is done with the World Cup this year, no matter what is the result, he'll give zero fucks about playing well, so he might as well go somewhere where he'll get paid handsomely for playing ham-and-egger Sunday league.
Or maybe be purchased by Flamengo. They're hell-bent in being star-studded again, so they acquired Everton Cebolinha, Arturo Vidal and Oscar (sole Brazilian scorer in 7x1, remember?).

Had our first Klopp excuse of the season.

"The pitch was dry."

No you just weren't good on the day Klopp, any respectable manager would admit that.
I agree, Klopp is the master of bullshit excuses.

But beware of saying this in Germany, the guy gets treated like some saint. I never liked him, he's an arrogant prick who can't admit he is wrong. And the way he treats some journalists is close to abuse. He improved on that but back when he was a coach in Germany he was notorious for insulting journalists, etc.

Liverpool used to be my favorite club in England, mostly because I watched the 2005 UCL final and became a, well not a fan obviously, but I just always rooted for them... until Klopp. I was so happy when Real beat them in the final this year.

He ruined it for me. Now you have to be for Liverpool because of Klopp.

Fuck Klopp. Biggest hypocrite in football.

His work as coach can't be really critized. Of course, here and there he made mistakes which cost Liverpool points, matches and trophies. But overall he is one of the best German coaches of his time. Besides that I am with you. While speaking about Klopp let's talk about his former club Dortmund.

Dortmund's Nico Schulz is facing serious legal troubles. One of his ex-girlfriends pressed charges against him because of domestic abuse and violence. She claims he hit and kicked here several times, even when she was pregnant.

Serious allegations have been made against the Borussia Dortmund defender. The public prosecutor's office and the club have now commented.

Professional soccer player Nico Schulz of runner-up Borussia Dortmund is facing real trouble. An ex-girlfriend has filed criminal charges of domestic violence against the 29-year-old. This was confirmed by Dortmund prosecutor Sonja Frodermann to the SID late Saturday night. "There has been a house search and storage media were seized," the lawyer further announced.

BVB was quoted on SID request: "We were not aware of a public prosecutor's investigation - concerning the private life of Nico Schulz - until today. We take the reporting as an opportunity to seek direct discussion with the player about the serious allegations."

Accusations on 76 pages - Schulz's lawyer: "inaccurate".
The accusations are said to involve, among other things, violent attacks that are said to have occurred during the relationship, Bild reports. The complaint, filed by a Hamburg lawyer on behalf of the ex-girlfriend in June, is said to be explicitly about seven acts. The accusations are said to have been described on 76 pages. In its report, "Bild" quotes in detail from e-mails and chat transcripts that are said to be part of the complaint. According to the report, the accusations relate to events from 2020.

The tabloid sent Schulz an extensive list of questions about the allegations. This let his lawyer answer - according to that the accusations are "inaccurate". Schulz has since deactivated his social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter.

Hopes not fulfilled
In sporting terms, Schulz, a twelve-time German international but without a DFB call-up since November 2020, is on the sidelines at BVB. The hopes that the club had placed in him when signing him from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019 have not been fulfilled to any degree.

At the time, Dortmund had reportedly paid 25 million euros for the left-back. In 2021/22, he was still nine times in the Bundesliga starting eleven of BVB. Most recently, there were reports that Borussia wanted to part with Schulz, but interested parties were apparently scarce. His contract at Dortmund is valid until 2024.

Chat logs have been leaked and also pictures of the woman and here injuries.

In 2019 he came from TSG Hoffenheim to BVB. Rumours are that Dortmund paid something between 25-27 million EUR which was a record sum for a defender/left back back then for Dortmund. Since he joined Dortmund he made overall 40 apperances. 40 matches in three seasons is bad. Like really bad. He's stats are mediocre at best.
That's why Dortmund is trying to sell him but so far found noone who would buy Schulz and also because Schulz refuses to leave given the money he earns in Dortmund for basically just existing.

I guess his career is over now with these allegations. Noone will buy a wifebeater larping as defender.

And in other news:

My special favourite club HERTHA BSC lost their first season game with 3:1 - against their city rivals of UNION BERLIN. It was a shitshow of a game for Hertha. Union dominated them and after leading the game 3:0 Union slowed down and basically did nothing anymore. Only then Hertha was able to score their only goal - in the 85th minute.
In 90 minutes Hertha had only three direct shots on the enemies goal.

Reminder: Last season Hertha lost both league matches to Union and got kicked out of DFB Pokal by Union.

He is a good coach, but he will never be in the top tier of coaches. He was always put in his place when facing serious opponents. He is known for failing in finals for a reason. He "only" won the UCL when facing a comparatively weak opponent that was probably surprised how they even made it to the final.

Winning the UCL is always an accomplishment, but I would rate Tuchel's win with Chelsea over Pep's Man City higher than Klopp's UCL win against Pochettino's Tottenham. Way higher.

The guy was always a mediocre player at best. Dortmund's list of transfer fuck ups is so long, people get blinded by the few times they get it right - Haaland, Dembele, etc.

And this whole story should just end his career once and for all. The fact that he was considered to be somewhat of the future of our defense in the national team is pretty embarassing.

Another hot take: Magath will have to take over again. Just like Stuttgart did with Stevens some years ago. lol

Brentford nearly put 3 past Leicester in like 25 minutes. If Rico Henry goal had counted they would have won. Imagine wtf they’re going to do to Manchester next week.

Klopp is a really good tactician but out of all the current top tier managers I've always pegged him as the one most likely to have a full blown career ruining spergout. I'm not talking about a Rafa Benitez 'facts' tier rant but assaulting a player/reporter type deal.

He's built up a shitload of goodwill by winning the Premier League but if result start slipping or fixtures start piling up or they miss out on the title by a single goal then he'll crack.

Back in Germany he had a personal feud with some journalist from SWR (South-West German public broadcast) that lasted from his time at Mainz to Dortmund.
He would loudly say stuff like "Oh fuck of not you idiot again" when he came from the pitch and journalists were waiting there and he recognized that guy.

I'm not going to simp for journalists at all costs, but, Jesus, just have some professionalism. He was acting like some drunk spectator at a Sunday league match who constantly yells at players and the ref.

Or his retarded chimp out with the assistant ref when he was at Napoli with Dortmund.

Or his open dispute with Oliver Kahn after a match. Yeah, Kahn often acted like an idiot when he was a player, but I am more forgiving with players, and when he was a TV expert he was usually calm and cool. (Jens Lehmann is by far the bigger moron and lunatic... *cough* chainsaw *cough*) During that interview it was basically just Klopp being a bitch and getting triggered by Kahn's opinion.

Or that interview when he refused to speak English. Sure he is German and it was in Germany but he is the manager of an English club. And it was for an international match, so he should have expected that questions wouldn't be in German only. He didn't care about it when Liverpool was playing in Munich some years later, btw.
And by the same logic next time he's playing in France or Spain he should better learn the respective languages.

So yeah, the guy has massive lolcow potential.

Other news: Anthony Modeste from 1. FC Cologne is going to Dortmund.

Last season Modeste played 32 matches in which he scored 20 goals and 3 assists. He was very crucial to Cologne's succesful last season.

It's reported that Modeste and Dortmund already had a verbal agreement which came to light shortly before Cologne's today match against Schalke. That's why Modeste wasn't in Cologne's squad today. Looks like officials in Cologne are very pissed about Modeste and Dortmund.
The deal shall be annouced officially on Monday or Tuesday.

So he's the replacement for Haller? Good luck with that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cologne will be in a relegation battle this season.

Oh, and another example of Bayern buying up the league, amirite?

If only Wissa's crosses weren't so drab.

I do hope Thomas Frank learns from this tie and benches Mathias Jensen in favour of DaSilva and opts for a 3-4-3 formation again. Jensen is a nice lad and certainly a major credit to the team during the Championship era, but he was one of the clear weak points in the midfield yet again. I'd not be surprised if he is "sold" to FC Midtjylland in the near future.

Glad for DaSilva to return after that injury

Much like Jensen, fundamental for the teams rise in the Championship. His struggles last season will no doubt be a great motivator and his celebration embodied how much it meant to score. Helps that he's a local lad too.

I’m calling it… Manchester United relegation battle. United go down and Ronaldo pulls out a Glock and blows his brains out at the final whistle, crowd cheers.

So interesting that Mark Cucurella was snatched away from Man City and made his Chelsea debut almost instantly. Ben Chilwell has competition now and City have to look for a Zinchenko replacement
Why do I get the feeling this is going to result in them bidding for Rico Henry.

Amusing as that is. United still have teams in worse shape than them currently. Which says a lot about the state of the lower-half of the table and how relegation seemingly can only spotlight three.
