I’m calling it… Manchester United relegation battle. United go down and Ronaldo pulls out a Glock and blows his brains out at the final whistle, crowd cheers.
After a humiliating 8-0 loss to Chelsea, Fred walks into the locker room with a shotgun and locks the door. All we hear for the next hour is shotgun blast after shotgun blast at point blank range.

And in true Fred style, all his shots miss.

That could be an option. Rumors have linked city with Ait-Nouri from Wolves, Sosa from Stuttgart, and Sergio Garcia from Anderlecht
If I had Pep's ear, I'd suggest Federico Ricca from Club Brugge. Left-footed LB that can also play both CB roles. You know, coverage for all the areas City have historically had problems with. Oh and he has a year left on his contract. So it's likely the cheapest coverage option. MONEYBALL

Let's not get too down on them yet, the transfer window is still open. I hear they're currently in negotiations with Rabiot's mother. All joking aside, he hasn't been great but is much better than Fred or McTominay.

Gomez is a much younger option who might fit Pep's style as well. Its not a replacement but a cover position so that City don't have to put someone out of position or rely on an academy player right away if someone goes down. Ricca would be the option if someone gets hurt for a significant portion of the season but that hasn't happened yet.

Unironically could see this happening. Especially with everyone on the French National team's parents hating each other, this would totally be a way to get back at Pogba

I mean, I'm not entirely convinced Rabiot isn't a good player. During the Pirlo season, he had some brilliant moments. He'd definitely improve United's squad at the very least and probably walk into the starting 11 immediately.

It was really dumb for United to autistically focus on Frenkie De Jong when they could've signed 3 midfielders like Rabiot for the same money.

Yeah United could have easily upgraded their midfield over the summer. But the issue is probably Ten Haag not trusting any United scout considering the history of signings. So pretty sure Ten Haag just wanted to sign a bunch of players he is familiar with and see what he has. Def a mistake to not try and just cycle in either better midfielders or some that would put the current midfielders in competition so they don't play like shit

Bournemouth have signed Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord. The Argentine international was signed for $12.7 million dollar with $3 million in add ons. Signed for 4 years

Triple post but it deserves its own post instead of an edit elsewhere

2020- Chelsea sign Timo Werner for 50 million euros

2022- Leipzig sign him back for 30 million euros

Glad to see the market for suckers is wide open

Think that's bad? The Lukaku deal will be even worse.

Also oh dear oh dear, looks like Barcelona are trying to annul Frenkie De Jong's contract because they can't register their new signings. It'd be a total shame if he held them to his contract, left Lewa and co unable to play and see Barcelona completely collapse. Couldn't happen to a nicer club.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'm going to have to point out that Juventus lost a friendly 4-0 to Atletico Madrid yesterday. Friendly or not, how do you concede 4 goals to Atleti? Not to mention Joao Felix missed a pen, so it easily could've been 5. And Allegri had the nerve to say something like "we can take many positives from this loss" in his press conference :story:

This has the potential to turn into a long and brutal season for Juventus. At this point, I'm almost hoping for the worst possible start if it means Allegri out before WC.

someone's gotta buy up the scraps so nobody challenges the top spots in Germany
Yeah. My point was that Dortmund fans always used to whine about Bayern deliberately weakening opponents by buying their key players, especially from Dortmund, but for years now Dortmund has been doing that themselves. Often buying players that were important at their former club but never really became regulars at Dortmund: Brandt, Th. Hazard, Schulz, etc.

All of those were way better at their former clubs. Especially Brandt. Really liked him at Leverkusen, but he became totally mediocre since he joined Dortmund.

I mean, I hate Bayern Munich (1860 supporter here), but it is totally hypocritical by Dortmund fans to shame Bayern for that. In recent years Bayern hasn't really farmed the other teams in Germany as much as Dortmund did.

And yes, the German league has become totally boring because of that. The only exciting thing in the Bundesliga is the relegation battle.

But well, my club hasn't played in the Bundesliga for almost two decades now, so I am not too emotional about it.

Meanwhile Roma absolutely thrashed Shaktar Donetsk 5-0, Serie A might actually be interesting this season (even if its at our expense).

the joke was similar to what you are pointing out. Dortmund, Leipzig, and other clubs underneath Bayern do the same thing. Its how the German system survives. The very bottom of the ladder survives on selling players upwards. The clubs who buy the lower players and sell them up require the funds from upper level teams. Its how everything functions. Just don't be mad you can't financially compete with the biggest boy on the block

Giddy with anticipation

As someone who became a fan of Barca during the late 2000s, I am so happy this is happening. Corrupt leaders running the club need to be punished. I hope the club can't register anyone and becomes a disaster of a club that is forced to use nothing but youth players for the next 20 years.

More transfer news (because of course)
Lucas Torreira has finally left Arsenal. Galatasaray agreed to a deal of around 5.5 million pounds for his permanent move. Arsenal are rumored to be looking to sign Moussa Diaby from Leverkusen but this transfer would be incredibly stupid without selling Pepe first. Same goes with Yeremy Pino but with Liverpool sniffing around, idk how long we could hold out on that one. Seko Fofana is being rumored as a replacement for Tielamanns (Idk anything about the lens midfielder) and I would rather get someone there to solidify our defensive midfield roles. We also extended the contract of Brooke Norton-Cuffy, a right back we loaned out to Blackpool in the Championship, so I am fairly happy about the summer window. Still have some potential deadwood to get rid of like Mari, Mavropanos, and possibly Bellerin. Still would like to see Nelson and Maitland-Niles out on loan like Tavares to see if they can potentially come back to the squad or not but that's all thats really left out for this squad

In the end, that is sadly how almost all leagues in Europe work. As much as people praise the EPL for being the best league in the world, which it is in terms of quality of the teams, you have the same problem there too, although to a lesser extend than in Germany or France.

In some ways, US sports does it way better than Europe with the drafting system. The MLS is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, even though the quality is well below European standards. There is no real gap between the clubs like in Europe, which is kinda funny since in other aspects it is often Europe that is much more regulated than America, while in sports it's the other way around.

I mean, I just want more competition. As much as I love football it is just annoying to have the same teams winning the national leagues and the international tournaments all the time. If I had anything to say I would say football should have kept the system that was used until the late 80s or early 90s with the old European Cup for the national champions, UEFA Cup for place 2-4 and the Cup Winners Cup. Back then you had much more interesting tournaments. There's zero chance a team like Steaua Bukarest for instance will win another European title in the current system.

But, well, football fans are hopelessly romantic and non of that is going to happen...

The US sports system is designed to make everything competitive but you lose out on quality. Unironically, I think something similar to a Super League needs to be made to at least bring competition back to a better level. I have kind of been workshopping something like this with a few co-workers and friends when we are bored but it would play out kinda like this

A league at the top where the best teams compete. These teams are not involved in the domestic league's or the current version of Champions League. They compete in a cup competition with themselves as well as the winners of Asia, Africa, North America, and South American champions of their versions of Champions League as well as competing in their domestic cups. Every year, one of them gets relegated depending on who finishes bottom of the league.

Current Champions League becomes more competitive with spots only opening up to the champions of most European nations, 2 spots for some bigger leagues, and 3 spots for the the 3 best countries. One spot reserved for the Europa League and one spot for the team that was relegated from the Super League. Winner of Champions League gets a spot in the Super League at the top.

Not sure how it would play out but the thought is that the system that keeps current clubs afloat with transfers is still in effect but league's become much more competitive along with the Champions League. You still have the big games being played at specific times with a connection to their country through domestic cups.

This would probably create more issues with lower leagues needing to play the big teams like in France or Spain but Idk. It also relies on TV money to work

Once again, Lampard didn't want him and his transfer requests made far more sense for the Chelsea side he wanted. He might be a complete dud at Everton, due in part to what he has inherited from Rafa... But he was certainly sabotaged by Roman's goons and select mellow dramatic players when it came to the one window he was allowed be involved in. I honestly think if the clubs sale happened during the embargo, Lampard would still be at the helm.

Conor Coady has completed a year long loan to Everton from Wolves
Imagine being Coady here for a moment.

You are Liverpool fan, better yet, a Liverpool fan and academy product. You are also the most atypical looking English lad, so you have the homegrown perk to your name. Due to the nature of the sport, you are phased out and will have to apply your trade elsewhere. However you understand the profession, set aside your dream and get a chance to assert yourself, end up as captain at another club. Sure it's not your boyhood side, but you've been a chance to demonstrate your ability week in and week out. It even elevates you to the point that you are now apart of the national team. You've made it! Maybe that will bring you the attention of Liverpool again. But what's this? That Portuguese agent is back suggesting some new names. What's that? Formation is being changed and you are now being phased out for one his goons? WAIT?! EVERTON? THEY ARE GOING TO LOAN ME OUT TO EVERTON. DUFFY GOT TO GO TO FULHAM? HOW THE FUCK DID THIS HAPPEN? YOU ARE THE FUCKING CAPTAIN!

This is not a smile of joy. This is a man hurting inside.

Speaking of a Portuguese agent running Wolves, Goncalo Guedes joins Wolves from Valencia for 27.5 million pounds literally minutes after Conor Coady left

Issa Diop is joining Fulham from West Ham for 15 mil

Fabian Ruiz is set to join PSG from Napoli after he refused to sign a contract extension. Deal between clubs still has to happen

@Hüftpriester it seems that not only is Rabiot on the radar for United, but so is Marko Arnautovic. Seems things are not working out as planned

Everton have signed Amadou Onana from Lille for 33 million pounds. He was also on West Hams radar but snatched up by Everton. This is Everton's fifth player to join the club after Tarkowski, McNeil, Vinagre, and Coady.

Alexis Sanchez, who has been linked with signing for Marseille for what seems like forever, has officially terminated his contract with Inter.

Joel Robles has signed for Leeds United after being released by Real Betis

Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Arnautovic.

Champions League 3rd round results (results are over both legs)

Zalgris (Lithuania) 1 - 6 Bodo/Glimt (Norway)
Viktoria Plzen (Czech Republic) 4 - 2 Sheriff (Moldovia)
Apollen (Cyprus) 2 - 4 Maccabi Haifa (Israel)
Pyunik (Armenia) 0 - 7 Crvena Zcezda (Serbia)
Midtjylland (Denmark) 2 - 7 Benfica (Portugal)
Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) 6 - 3 Ludogorets (Bulgaria)
Ferencvaros (Hungary) 2 - 4 Qarabag (Azerbaijan)
SK Sturm Graz (Austria) 1 - 3 Dynamo Kiev (Ukraine/Russia lol)
PSV (Holland) 4 - 3 Monaco (France)
Rangers (Scotland) 3 - 2 Union Saint-Gilloise (Belgium)

A few thoughts. Rangers win allows Scotland to not fall down to such a level of play that they would be compared to Belgium lol. But I would think Holland have a better league atm and Scotland are in trouble there.
Monaco fucked up last season and it came back to bite them right now. Last season, they were leading Marseille going into the final day. 2nd got automatic qualifications to Champions League group stage and 3rd had to go into these playoffs at the third round. And Monaco tied Lens while Marseille won and now Monaco can enjoy the Europa League while Marseille will have Champions League this fall

Match ups for the final 6 spots for the Champions League
Bodo/Glimt vs Dinamo Zagreb
Rangers vs PSV
Qarabag
vs Viktoria Plzen
Macabbi Haifa vs Crvena Zcezda
Dynamo Kiev vs Benfica
Copenhagen (Denmark) vs Tranzonspor (Turkey) - bye until the final round

Bolded my picks on who I think will go through. Only ones I am confident in are PSV, Benfica, and Tranzonspor. First legs kick off on the 16/17th and second leg is the 23/24th
