There are so many clubs circling these free agents like vultures right now. I love it
Why spend close to £200 million on unknown elements like Nottingham Forest when you can get a proven talent who is still relatively young (Christensen is 26) for next to nothing? Especially as you know most will want the game time for the upcoming World Cup.

There are a few issues with trying to offer them game time before the world cup

1. They are good players coming in for free. Which means a lot of other clubs are going to go for them. Sometimes these clubs can offer bigger games like european competition/Champions League games. Epl is one thing but going into a league that can get them game time without beating them up and Champions League is probably more tantalizing an offer

2. If they are going to a much lower club than what they should be playing at, then they won't be getting a deal much longer than the World Cup year. So your club will just be kicking the can down the road for a bit. If you get someone like Christensen in for a 6 month contract, you are giving yourself January to solve a problem that you couldn't solve throughout the entire summer.

3. That wage bill is going to be massive. Competition to sign a good player will demand high wages. That might throw off your clubs wage structure to sign one player and potentially upset the entire dressing room.

So it is enticing but there are some downsides to signing a player like that

Everton are such in dire form, but may just stay up if they can find players as hungry as Onana to play. Lampard looked like a substitute teacher on the verge of a midlife crisis compared to Gerard in the dug-out today. I get it's hot, but at least dress the part for your job. They've done an awful job at removing the dead wood left behind by Rafa, they might just end up becoming free-agent FC come the winter window.

Oh and the fact that Forest are throwing money at just about anyone including a rumoured £15mil + deal for Maupay from Brighton shows just how much of a shit show the lower-half of the table is.

Spend money you don't have in the hopes of staying up in the premier league seems to be the play right now

Milan looking kind of shit to me, even after getting a soft penalty. I'm more interested to see Roma play tomorrow though and also Berlusconi's new project, Monza, plays tonight for the first time in Serie A.

If United don't make it far in whatever bastardised European football campaign they partake in, Eriksen's wife is gonna be livid he gave up living in upmarket West London for Manchester. Sure the money is nice, but I doubt it's worth the media pressure and constant heckling via fans.

He nearly died already and is getting paid. I am sure the wife is looking forward to using all that money as a widow.

Can we get a thread for Barcelona in the lolcow section?
If we can add United, Arsenal, Tottenham, PSG, and Juve to that thread then I am all for it

It's truly incredible how bad United are. If someone inside the club had been trying to covertly sabotage them for the last nine years, they couldn't have done a better job of it.

The best part is that this wasn't a single season sabotage or two. This has been happening for at least 10 years now and it has resulted in a club that will take at least a decade to fully recover
