The best part is that this wasn't a single season sabotage or two. This has been happening for at least 10 years now and it has resulted in a club that will take at least a decade to fully recover
I honestly also don't get that "it's the owners"-cope.
The owners gave them every kind of coach they asked for, every transfer they asked for, etc... everything failed in the end. I am not going to white knight for some billionaires, but blaming them for everything is just very lazy. Almost all EPL clubs have some billionaire owner, but only United (and Arsenal to some extend) has such an insane downward spiral.

The biggest issue with United is that unlike other teams that have obvious issues that can be patched over by fixing their weakest areas, Manchester United have issues all across the squad through years of neglecting areas and the bizarre scattergun approach of signing players that aren't good enough or don't fit tactically into the squad.

Their entire midfield core is completely broken, as is their defensive line. Their goalkeeper will make gamechanging fuckups from time to time and their attack is legit hard to work out how bad it is because they're unable to get ANY service because of the core midfield issue.

They don't need a single player that's great and can patch things over, this is a situation that requires a bunch of cheap, dependable players who will fill the gaps to just about make it through the season and give the manager options to rotate properly and provide competition. It also requires a tactical change up with them needing to play like a scrappy mid-table team JUST to keep them afloat long enough to come up with long term solutions. It's why De Jong seems like an absolutely retarded target because he'll still be playing alongside Fred, a rapidly declining Bruno or McRetard.

Just look at how Newcastle conducted business throughout Winter and this Summer, they identified that the entire squad had major issues and filled them in with smart, minor improvements that would give them the groundwork to turn cheap losses into draws or scrappy wins, which with enough games can drastically change a season. Manchester United should be trying to poach the targets of Aston Villa and Brighton, not fucking about with another ludicrously expensive player that will do fuck all to fix the core of the squad.

I've come around to not minding VAR (still loathe the long stoppages), but my new problem is: at what point do the powers that be start holding the humans reviewing footage accountable for their constant fuck ups? If a clear as day hair pull isn't considered violent conduct and an instant red when it's right in your fucking face, when do the VAR assistants start getting punished for not making the correct calls?

Refs will never be held responsible while they're only held to account by PGMOL, who are an old boys club of refs who look after their own. Add to that the VAR operators are simply just other refs and you have a cabal of wankers who cover for each other. Iirc the punishment for errors is simply having their bonus garnished, nothing actually substantial

Even when the calls against the ref are loud like when Southampton wrote a letter demanding a certain ref was to not officiate their games again after a series of errors, all that happened was that ref was told to take a few weeks off.

Its what the retarded United fans scream because they don't understand what is happening at their club. @Tom Nook's Gloryhole explained it best.

I must have missed the rule change where you're now allowed to drag a player down by his hair.
Its a new rule change by FIFA. Trying to get that WWE viewership

VAR is pointless. Refs are going to make shitty calls. Its just human nature. And its what makes the game enjoyable from a neutral's prospective. VAR just highlights how much human error there is

So first goal from Tottenham shouldn't have stood at all. Clear foul on Havertz. Jorginho shouldn't have given it away so cheaply and Richarlison was close to interfering with the goal but there was a Chelsea defender in the way as well.
Romero should have been sent off for that hair pulling. Unreal that nothing happened there. Of course it leads to the second goal too. I don't think much would have changed though. Red card and retaken corner which could still result in the same goal. But unreal to think nothing happened
If I am Chelsea, I am appealing Tuchel's red card. Not a chance I am letting any punishment come out from this game with both of these things clearly missed.
But also, Chelsea had like 2 or 3 clear goals that they missed. Some quality finishing would have kept this from becoming a full ref issue
And final verdict on this game. Both of these statements are true- Chelsea could have won this game with some better finishing. The ref kept Chelsea from winning this game

The sad thing is that referee fuck ups are so common in the EFL it's not even a joke anymore, there will always be at least one game with a terrible refereeing decision that goes almost unnoticed by the wider public and sports media because the only thing they care about is the Premier League.

Warnock was 100% correct in his assessment of them and I hope he tears into them again at some point because something has to be done later down the line.

What was the bust up with Conte and Tuchel about? I only watched the highlights and saw them brawling during the game and after. Tuchel did that lame power move where he goes to shake hands and grabs Conte and pulls him in aggressively and they had to be separated.

Tottenham's first goal was off a no call and the second goal came at the very end after no red card was issued. Tuchel was pissed about the ref dropping points and Conte was arguing with him about the calls that benefitted Tottenham at the end. Minor suspensions and a fun reverse fixture later in the season is all that will happen

The thing I hate the most about when big time fuck ups happen in games is the sob story about refs at lower levels getting harassed. I can guarantee there will be a puff piece or two about a ref getting abused at a local game that has 2 teams full of fat average looking british kids and it will make the rounds again. 2 completely different issues being tied together because that's what the british do

Graeme Souness called yesterday’s match between two men’s teams ‘a man’s game’ and one of the England women’s players, Beth England, interpreted that as him saying women don’t belong in football and now we have another non-troversy shitting up the football media here.

I was hopeful the Lionesses letting their success go to their head and start seeing grievances everywhere wasn’t going to happen but alas.
