Sunderland got another France U-20 player, this time from Lille. Isaac Lihadji was transferred for an undisclosed fee there. Idk if Sunderland are trying to make a push now or next year to get back to the premier league
So Sunderland a few seasons ago implemented a new recruitment rule-set, with the primary focus being: Nobody over 26. Idea being that depending on over the hill mercs of years gone by isn't helping them suffer the wrath of Portsmouth and Ipswich. Since the changes got put into motion, they've been getting academy lads that have been let go and telling them "prove yourself" and they are doing it tenfold. Sunderland looked very shaky in the League 1 play-offs and yet have quickly established themselves back in the Championship as a team to watch out for. I foresee them replicating the success of Crewe and Brentford; two teams who have had similar success with developing names and selling them for profit. Oh and it also helps that the majority owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, also has shares within Marseille and is utilising the scouting system in France to Sunderland's benefit.

Still fucking hate Sunderland mind. The shit that would never flush in the Premier League

Rotherham have a similar system where they take the top talent from League 1 and tell them to prove themselves in the Championship. Then just yo yo back and forth from leagues knowing how things will play out but being financially stable

João Cancelo from Man City is joining FC Bayern on a loan but I know nothing about this guy.
Outside back for City. Was pretty decent for them and kinda pivotal to their performances ever since he was bought from Juventus for about 27-28 mil plus Danilo. Apparently he was getting super pissed ever since the World Cup about playing time and Guardiola finally had enough. There is a 61 mil option to buy at the end of this loan but I don't see Bayern being stupid enough to pay 61 mil for a fullback who will be 29

Other fun transfer news
I missed this one last time, Morgan Schneiderlin, former Manchester United squad player, has been lent out to Western Sydney Wanderers. He was at Nice but you would never know since he didn't play at all this season

Malo Gusto has signed with Chelsea and loaned back to Lyon for the rest of the year. Initially it looks like a Reece James replacement but I think this is more of a compliment to Reece James to try and move him further into a center back role in a back 3 instead of forcing him wider. At the very least, its another 26+ mil to add to Chelsea's ffp

Tete has been loaned from Shakhtar to Leicester. He was on loan at Lyon prior to this and I think this is Shakhtar's way of holding onto him instead of him just leaving for free with the Fifa/Uefa rule about foreigners just getting to leave clubs in Ukraine and Russia

Stuttgart are bolstering their fight for survival by taking japanese midfielder Genki Haraguchi from Union Berlin on loan and Gil Dias from Benfica for an undisclosed amount.

Brazilian born Portuguese midfielder Joao Gomes has moved from Flamengo to Wolves. Curious as to when Wolverhampton's native language changes from british to portuguese

Ivan Ilic has been sent on loan to Torino from Verona. City fans might remember him as he was 16 when City bought him from Red Star Belgrade

Thomas Delaney has moved back to the Bundesliga to Hoffenheim from Sevilla. The Danish midfielder was only in spain for about a year and a half

Jean-Victor Makengo has moved back to France with Lorient (why do they keep popping up with transfers? Does anyone know?) from Udinesse. Its about a 7 million pound move with add ons that could rise to 10

Swedish forward Amin Sarr ("Swedish" lol) has moved from Heerenveen to Lyon. 11 goals in 35 games as a center forward in Holland apparently is desired now

Yasin Ayari, a 19 year old midfielder from Sweden has just signed with Brighton for 3.5 mil. No idea if this means Caicedo leaves at the deadline or in the summer but this looks like his replacement to some degree

Weston McKennie finally leaves @Hüftpriester club for Leeds United on loan with an option to buy. I am sure there is something in there that gets Leeds out of buying him if they get relegated but with Southampton and Everton playing like absolute dog trash, I don't see it happening soon

Sevilla have taken both Pape Gueye and Bryan Gil on loan for the remainder of the year.

Since they were rejected by Zaniolo, Bournemouth went with Matias Vina on loan. The Uruguayan defender comes with a 500k loan fee and an option to buy for 15 mil at the end of the year

Looks like Jorginho to Arsenal is done. Not quite sure what to make of this deal...doesn't he play the same position as Partey? I'm also pretty sure I saw a referee outrunning him a few months ago. Not good.

In non-transfer news, Jose Mourinho made his team take a group photo after losing to Napoli.

Cover, something Arsenal needs. Also a cheap buy so they still have money in the bank for Rice in the summer who'll be like 80m+

Brentford was left out due to not being that interesting. Let me know if you want any others. Looking at getting Juve, Inter, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Atalanta, Roma, Lazio, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Barca, Bayern, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Union, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Angers, Lille, Lorient, PSG, Marseille, Monaco, Lyon, Nantes, and Nice tomorrow. Will add teams if you want

Jesus Gakpoo is fucking awful and as soon as Jota/Dias come back hes back to the bench. I can genuinely see him reaching the end of the without a league goal to his name.

Bobo and Sabitzer are decent signings both need time and are only on loan. I guess the Glazers are going full on jew mode and refusing to payout anything on signings while trying to sell.

Jorghino to Arsenal isnt bad but not something I saw happening.

Palace rapidly turning into Africa FC, makes sense considering their owners.

Chelsea signing Fernandes is a mockery of FFP as theyve outspent Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga combined. 8 year contracts sounds great for the bean counters but if any flop good luck moving then on.

Everton are fucked, the fact they couldnt even get a 33yr old Ayew on free is telling to how bad it must be.

"Brentford was left out due to not being that interesting"

Why must you hurt me DSP's Tax Lawyer? Sadly you aren't wrong. Aside from an emergency loan for a player who has struggled to fight for a starting spot, Brentford spent the winter window once again prioritising and building upon the foundation of the youth team. With Beckham's lad being the big star attraction to the project. When it comes to first team depatures, Sergi Canos ended up on loan at the end of the window to Olympiacos with an option to buy. He's basically been knocked down the pecking order since the arrivals of Wissa and Lewis-Potter. Sad to see him go but he's not been the same since the leg injury.

@DSP's Tax Lawyer reply bug broken. Serie A was pretty quiet. The most notable thing being what didn't happen - Nicolo Zaniolo wanted a move out of Roma but refused Bournemouth, who were the only ones to meet the asking price. This apparently infuriated the club and it looks like he might be forced to sit out the rest of the season. Keep in mind at the beginning of the season Mourinho rated the player just behind Mbappe and Haaland in terms of quality. There's recent reports of Zaniolo planning to sue the club. Archive This is not what you want to see as a fan of the NT as this guy is supposed to be a key part of its future.

In another ominous sign for Roma, there was a lolcow sighting at their game today and they lost to relegation side Cremonese in the Coppa Italia.

The ralphacurse strikes again.

And I was joking about getting him some stuff from one of the big two Rome clubs in the hopes of him catching some beating from rival fans...

But now I'm hoping it's not going to happen. Well, at least when the baby is around. Poor little guy can't be blamed for his shitty dad.

@Hüftpriester be glad he didn't go to a Juve game. That would have been the only way to make watching Juve even worse

@Homofascism thank you for the update on the Leicester aussie. Its pretty late when I update these

Sorry @Anchors-Away but its true

Anyways, I know a lot of teams are pretty dry as far as January transfers so I only wanted to do updates on big teams and some teams I found a lot of movement from

Inter Milan brought no one in and only really loaned out youth players

Fiorentina brought in Antonin Barak for 5.3 mil from Verona, Salvatore Sirigu for free, and Josip Brekalo for an undisclosed amount from Wolfsburg. They loaned out a few youth players but the 2 of note were Szymon Zurkowski to Spezia with an option to buy and Youssef Maleh to Lecce with an obligation to buy if Lecce stay in Serie A

Atalanta made a push for Champions League places by loaning out 9 players. I don't think anything of note was done here

Juve had Luca Pellegrini come back after not really playing for Frankfurt. The only real outgoing note here was McKennie to Leeds

Lazio picked up Luca Pellegrini on loan with an option to buy. Seems Juve don't want him. Sent out 4 youth players on loan

Ac Milan bought Devis Vasquez from Guarani in Paraguay. They seem to be down pretty bad. They lent out a youth player with an option to buy and let Luan Capanni go for free

Napoli loaned out a bunch of players and let Sirigu fo for free to Fiorentina and sold Eugenio D'Ursi for an undisclosed amount. Only took in Gollini from Atalanta and Beresynski from Sampadoria on loan

Roma brought in Diego Llorente from Leeds on loan with an obligation to buy and Ola Solbakken from Bodo/Glimt for free. Loaned out Vina to Bournemouth, Shomurodov to Spezia, and Gonzalo Villar to Getafe

Atletico Signed Memphis Depay from Barca for 2.6 mil and Matt Doherty for free from Tottenham. Loaned out Marcos Paulo, Matheus Cunha, and Felix along with selling Felipe to Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed amount

Barca sold Memphis Depay to Atletico, Hector Bellerin to Sporting, and loaned out the youth Alex Valle to FC Andorra (Gerrard Pique's team. Nothing suspicious there). They ended up buying Lucas Roman from Ferro Oeste in Argentina but he will be a project

Nothing too notable with Betis outside of taking in Ayoze Perez from Leicester on loan, and then selling Alex Moreno to villa for 12.4 mil and letting the 22 year old Mexican winger Diego Lainez go back to Tigres in Mexico. His career might be over

Real Madrid did basically nothing. Same with Sociedad and Valencia

Villareal took in a youth talent on loan for their B team. They ended up selling Rulli who won a world cup this year and loaned out Arnaut Danjuma to Tottenham

Sevilla took Bryan Gil, Pape Gueye and Loic Bade on loan and got Lucas Ocampos back from Ajax after playing 6 times. Apparently they didn't want to pay 16 mil for him lol. They loaned out some youth players, loaned Thomas Delaney to Hoffenheim and released Isco who has fallen off a cliff

Leverkusen did some ok business with Noah Mbamba coming in for an undisclosed amount from Club Brugge. They sold Zidan Sertdemir to Nordsjaelland and loaned out Paulinho back to Atletico Mineiro. Apparently Paulinho fell out of favor

Bayern Munich took Cancelo on loan with an option to buy, Blind on a free, and Yann Sommer for 7 mil. Loaned out Sabitzer to United

Dortmund Bought Duranville from Anderlecht, Ryerson from Union Berlin, and Akono from SC Verl. They ended up selling a second team player, loaning out a City youth player with an option to buy to Verona, and Loaned Thorgan Hazard to PSV

Monchengladbach sold Yann Sommer and used the money to buy Jonas Omlin from Montpellier. The other 2 moves are not big

Frankfurt brought in Philipp Max from PSV, Simon Simoni from Dinamo Tirana for an undisclosed amount, and Paxten Aaronson from Philly for 3.3 mil. They loaned out Onguene to Salzburg and let Pellegrini return to Juve

Leipzig did nothing

Shalke took in 6 players on loan who I have never heard of to try and survive the season. They loaned out Jordan Larsson (son of Henrik Larsson) to Copenhagen and sold Florent Mollet to Nantes

Union Berlin sold Ryerson to Dortmund, loaned out 4 players and then brought in Juranovic from Celtic for 7.5 mil, Laidouni from Ferencvaros for 3.6 mil, and Roussillon from Wolfsburg for an undisclosed amount

Lens bought Thomasson from Strasbourg for 4.4 mil and Le Cardinal from Paris FC for 2.2 mil. This is their version of going for it

Lille brought in Costil from Auxerre for free. Sold Jardim to Vasco da Gama, and Isaac Lihadji to Sunderland, and loaned out Zedadka to Auxerre

I can't even begin to document Lorient's moves. Bought 3 players, took in 3 more on loan. Sold Ouattara to Bournemouth and then loaned 7 players out

Lyon's biggest moves was Buying Amin Sarr from Heerenveen, Jeffinho from Botofoga, and Dejan Lovren from Zenit. They sold Malo Gusto to fund all this and took him back on loan lol

Marseille bought Vitinha from Braga, Ounahi from Angers, and got Malinovskyi from Atalanta on loan with an option to buy. They let a few players go but were definitely spenders this window

Monaco basically just let people go. Biggest one was Badiashile to Chelsea for 32.7 mil

And last one is PSG who loaned out Kari to Lorient, Navas to Nottingham Forest, and sold Sarabia to Wolves. Would have brought in Ziyech on loan if Chelsea didn't fuck it up

Some talk that Chelsea might be in breach of financial fair play rules because of their record spending. They only escaped punishment last season because of leniency relating to Covid. Their only option if they don’t qualify for the Champion’s League might be selling academy players including Callum Hudson-Odoi, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek because according to the rules they count as zero cost.

Talk about the most Newcastle sounding signings imaginable (assuming sold this Summer)

From what I can tell, there are 2 things that are being used against Chelsea. 1 is trying to change the rules for clubs amortizing transfer costs and only having it over a 5 year period. Uefa didn't do that before and delegated to the country but are now going to try and put that as a universal rule. The second is having the starting 11 be a certain percentage of wage (?) I believe. This would be a way to get back at Chelsea.

Honestly, outside of seeing what the other contracts are, Chelsea were kinda brilliant with how they did things these past 2 windows. Getting a massive price spread out over 8 years and having reasonable wages is a great way to get around FFP. Sure they will have to sell players but all the players currently on their books are at much higher wages so getting them to leave for mid table premier league clubs or other leagues would be very tough since they would be asked to take pay cuts. The new players seem to be on reasonable wages so they can sell them off a little easier. The only issue with this plan is the fact that the amortization takes so long. So, accounting jargon, if the net value of the player is only 60 mil with the low amortization amount, selling him for 50 mil actually counts as a loss on their books so they might be holding onto these players for longer than they want. But loan moves would make a lot of sense with them. Loaning them out with a fee and getting most/all their wages off the books until the amortization has taken the net value down to a transfer fee that either comes out to 0 or a little plus

In other news, Andre Ayew has signed with Nottingham Forest today. His contract with some middle eastern club expired January 31st so he was able to sign on a free. This means Nottingham Forest have signed 9 more players than points gained since coming into the premier league. It also marks the 14th player Everton tried to sign this window and failed

Is that Jordan Ayew’s brother because I’ve heard he’s even worse than Jordan and I didn’t think that was possible. They both got a lot of hate from the Ghanaian fans during the World Cup because their dad was so much better and is hailed a hero in Ghana.
