Not without precedence, mind you. AFC Wimbledon did exactly that, though they did the hard work of crawling up from the depths of English league football. We all should chip in and buy a Premier League club.
Barcelona have almost a complete opposite team to what Real Madrid have. Its basically a moneyball type team (not in the financial sense) that will perform well or slightly above average over the course of a season in terms of goals scored and goals given up. Which, spread over the course of a season, will lend to them doing really well in a season and probably win La Liga. But their team can't win a single game/two games when it absolutely matters against anyone but maybe Real Madrid/Atletico.Reminder that both Inter and United scored more goals against Barca within 4 matches than the entire Spanish team after 22 league games so far and 3 of their conceded are from the el classico back in october
I mean rest of the la liga's clubs (beside Real) must be having a really shitty season when they let current year Barca steamrolls the entire domestic league like this, even bundesliga and that french's farmer league are likely more worth following at this point
I wonder what will happen to Madrid when Modric eventually retires. It seems like everything runs through him in the big games. Like last year in the round of 16 against PSG. Madrid were down 2-0 on aggregate going into the 2nd half of the 2nd leg and Modric basically just took over the game and willed them to victory. On the opposite end, Real Madrid can absolutely turn up in big games. They seem to always have the players who thrive in big game situations.
Oh yeah, Modric is 100% part of the reason they do so well in these big games. Dude is pressure immune. Liverpool couldn't do shit with their high press against Madrid because they just get the ball to Modric (and to an extent Kroos) and they can just play around it. They do that until the pressure extends teams too far then they can just dump it over the top to Vinicius who has Benzema close by and they just destroy teams. Its insane to try and think how you beat a team that can just possess through the best of presses and instantly counter you over the top if you push too far. The only real way to beat them is to defend deep and try to counter but good luck getting top teams in Europe to try thatI wonder what will happen to Madrid when Modric eventually retires. And what he did to set up that 5th goal against Liverpool the other day...just insane. The guy is 37 years old....one year younger than Iniesta who has been gone from Europe for like 5 years now. I always thought of Iniesta as the best midfielder of his generation but I think Modric has surpassed him.
That is boring as shit, and one of the reason La Liga (or as some people call it, Los Dos) is surpassed by the Premier League in terms of interest, star power, and money. If nothing else changes, and it probably won't due to both club's current spending habits and financial situations, we will get a long stretch where Real Madrid keep winning European titles, Barcelona win the league, and the Copa del Rey/Spanish Super Cup come down to literal coin flips
But a poppy in Armistice Day is a problem because... why again? The English league doing their part for the Military Industrial Complex by making captains wear yellow and blue arm bands this round.
A consistent CL threatening team is built on a very strong defence, defenders are significantly harder to find and bed in than attackers and Newcastle could easily get much higher calibre attackers with a Champions League place than if they just bought the best they could get this Winter transfer window.Man, Newcastle need to find a new way to attack. Their defense was pretty solid but Rashford is playing out of his mind right now. But the entire attack basically came from Maximum on the left and Trippier on the right just beating their man and crossing the ball in. But there were a bunch of chances that Newcastle had on the break and its like they didn't know what they were doing. How many times did they just pass the ball to the United defender? They need to upgrade that attack in the summer because that isn't good enough
I mean, yeah this makes sense. Newcastle's defense was solid and I don't think either of the goals were Karius' fault. Originally I thought he was somewhat at fault for the second goal going down so early but the deflection was so bad that they took away a goal from Rashford and made it an own goal.A consistent CL threatening team is built on a very strong defence, defenders are significantly harder to find and bed in than attackers and Newcastle could easily get much higher calibre attackers with a Champions League place than if they just bought the best they could get this Winter transfer window.
I think they're going in the right places to establish themselves as a top Premier League team because they've managed to go from a team bordering on relegation to a team that can bully Liverpool and Chelsea out of Champions League places. I mean they'd have to choke remarkably hard at this point to drop out of Champions League contendership.
Man City would have gotten to the top MUCH faster if they'd concentrated on a consistent defence as opposed to buying above average attackers like Jo and Roque Santa Cruz. Chelsea had the best idea with their original takeover because they already had some decent attackers in the squad, but adding Carvalho, Makalele and Petr Cech had them just rocketing up the table because they were straight up unbeatable at Stanford Bridge.

Liverpool fans should remove the "You'll never walk alone" song from their chants. They let that man walk alone over the pitch after that final and blamed him for everything. Absolutely disgusting tbhFucking hate Liverpool fans since that final.
