Meanwhile Upamecano pulls stinker after stinker.

He is either buck broken or he just doesn't have it, idk. I mean, it's "just" a super cup who nobody really cares here but it was a match for a trophy. So he just didn't deliever in another important game. Like he didn't against Man Citty last season. Or against Villareal before. Or in the DFB cup matches the last two years when Bayern got kicked out.

What are the chances of Tottenham going in for Olmo after watching him run rings around Harry's new club?

Leipzig better put a 200 mil label on that guy.

Mackenzie Arnold, the australian GK, runs instead of jumping to try and save a penalty. I don't think I've seen anything like this before.

Meh, that wasn't too bad. She took the 3 steps to jump instead of one which is what I would expect from Women's football. They need to stop trying to pretend like its the same as the men's game

Never mind the gulf in standard between the men and women but imagine comparing a forward and a defender in this manner lmfao
Also, I believe Rapinoe's Golden Boot award may have been because she scored something like 5 goals in a pool play game against a rather weak opponent. Humblebragging about that kind of milestone is akin to someone bragging about hitting four home runs in a 20-2 baseball game or a basketball player scoring 80 points in a 96-6 rout. The raw numbers may be impressive but the circumstances are anything but.

I'm watching a WWC match for the first time today and the only thing I'm noticing is the female version of the sport is so goddamn slow, its like watching a normal football match in 0.75 speed.
Soccer in general tends to be slow; I once witnessed a college match that went scoreless after 90 minutes of play and 20-30 minutes of overtime before being settled by penalty kicks. What little women's soccer I've seen seems slower because teams want to slow down play to try to catch the other team napping when they finally do attempt a quick strike/attack.

All Australian stadiums are like 60 to 80k capacity. You’ll easily get crowds like that for AFL and cricket.
Women's sports in general seem to draw lower attendance than men's sports for whatever reasons. It also doesn't help that the fan base largely consists of diehards who will watch any sportball event and lesbians attending to thirst over the athletes.

That was actually Alex Morgan, who tied Rapinoe in the race for the Golden Boot in 2019. Morgan scored 5 against Thailand in a 13-0 win. Rapinoe scored all of her goals in penalty kicks, free kicks, and tap ins. If they could have found someone who was capable of kicking a still ball just as decent as her but could also keep possession of the ball + do a little defending, Rapinoe could have easily been replaced

This reminded me of the one women's footy match I attended.
It was held in a stadium with 20k capacity. Even with decent exposure and an entry fee of 1kg of non-perishable food, only 200 people bothered to attend. A good portion of these were relatives of the players.

After three matches in said stadium with similar numbers, they moved their fixtures to the team's training grounds, in a neighboring city and with next to no room for attendance.

Watching the shootout live I thought it was goofy as fuck. Funnily enough, the French GK is smaller than her but didn't do any of this.

I'm guessing the goal is too big for them. They probably should change shit up in the female version of football to suit the women better.

Does encroachment not exist in women's football? Either way, just lob it onto the pile of hilariously cringe moments this cup has produced.

Unless Villa turn out to be relegation candidates this year, then yesterday's game makes Newcastle look fucking scary, at least at home. Tonali was a fucking steal
I'm genuinely surprised a lot of people don't have Newcastle higher in their predictions. They were crazy dominant at times last season and Tonali was a crazy pickup compared to other midfielders this window. Maybe European football will hinder them a little but I still predict them to finish in the top 6 at least.

I put them at 5th just because I felt like they would make deep cup runs in every competition this year. But they could def be higher

The 1st round of DFB Pokal is over -well, almost as Bayern and RB Leipzig have to play their matches which will happen in the end of September- and we got some hilarious results once again besides the usual slaughtering of amateur clubs.

Like Borussia Mönchengladbach won 7:0, Borussia Dortmund 6:1, 1. FC Nuremberg won 9:1, Wolfsburg won 6:0 against a jewish club (the 1st one ever to take part in the DFB cup), etc.

But the fun results are:
- Werder Bremen (1. Bundesliga) lost against 3rd tier club Viktoria Cologne.
- Bochum (1. Bundesliga) lost against Arminia Bielefeld, who went from 1st tier to 3rd tier within two years.
- Augsburg (1. Bundesliga) lost against Unterhaching (freshly promoted from 4th tier to 3rd tier).
- freshly promoted to 1. Bundesliga club Darmstadt lost against Homburg, a 4th tier club

Hansa Rostock, current 1st place in 2. Bundesliga, barely won against a 3rd club.
SC Freiburg, ranked 5th in 1. Bundesliga last season, only won 2:0 against an amateur club.

Every country should have a national cup with only knock-out matches and low tier clubs involved. It's awesome.

Bayern wants him and reports are that they are in talks with PSG for quite some time.

Adding to the list: Robert Gosens from Inter Mailand is joining Union Berlin (fix) and they are trying to get Bonucci from Juve too. And they are near in closing the deal for Kevin Volland from Monaco.

Since when did Bayern change their entire transfer policy? They use to be the team that would snipe German talent from the Bundesliga and get some deals from Europe but now they are just throwing money around like they found mommy's credit card
