So not enough love is given to the English Championship considering how insane it is right now. Top 2 teams are Leicester and leeds who are on 82 and 79 points in the automatic promotion positions. Ipswich is in 3rd with 78 points and Southampton have a game in hand and are sitting on 73 points (76 if they win). So (potentially) the top 4 would be separated by 6 points and only 2 get automatically promoted with 9 games remaining. Just behind them is West Brom on 63 points. 10 points behind them is Middlesbrough, Preston, and Cardiff, who are in 9th, 10th, and 11th place (if you are counting thats 7 teams competing for the remaining 2 playoff spots). For relegation, 1 spot will be taken up by Rotherham who have half the points of 23rd place Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield currently occupy the other 2 relegation spots at 38 points. Sunderland and Bristol City are 9 points ahead of them and sit in 12th and 13th place. That means that 12 teams are competing for 2 relegation spots and are all within 9 points of each other with 9 games to go. Its also insane to think that 6 points separates mid table teams from being either in a relegation battle or a battle for promotion playoffs.

Another fun league is the National League. You may remember it as the league that Wrexham won last year. Top team automatically gets promoted. Then the 2nd and 3rd place get a bye in the promotion playoff for the second spot. 4th through 7th will play a playoff, winners advance etc. Anyways, Chesterfield are running away with it. They have 91 points from 38 games played, but that's not the interesting part. Barnet are in second place with 68 points from 37 games played. FC Halifax Town are in 9th place (2 spots off the last playoff spot) with 56 points and 37 games played. So 8 teams are competing for 6 playoff spots, which is pretty interesting. But the more fun part is the 4 team relegation battle at the bottom. Oxford City sit on 29 points with 39 games played and most likely will drop, leaving 3 teams left. York City are 23rd with 40 points and 39 games played. Southend United are in 10th place with 50 points and 38 games played. So right now, 14 teams are in a relegation scrap for 3 drop spots. And while 10 points seems like a lot, 23rd place to 16th place is only separated by 5 points. So there are a shit ton of games to go. The only team that might think its a little safer is Wealdstone (remember that fucker?) who are on 43 points, 2 out of the relegation zone, and only played 34 games. They literally have 4-5 games in hand to try and pick up some points. Everyone else though, they are just 2-3 bad results from being in the relegation zone.

These 2 are really fun leagues to look at so far with the English Leagues. As for League 1 and 2, its decently competitive. Nothing to write about when compared to these other 2 but should be a fun run up towards the end of the season

Niko Kovac (former Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Bayern coach) got sacked as coach of VFL Wolfsburg. In the last 20 games Wolfsburg had only 2 wins. In the 11 games so far in 2024 they had 0 wins. Wolfsburg spent around 70 millions in the summer transfer window and are 14th at the moment.

New coach will be Ralph Hasenhüttl. His last job was at FC Southhampton.

Almost didn't watch this one, but I'm glad I did because it was a fucking banger.

FA CUP SEMI FINAL DRAW
Coventry v Manchester United
Manchester City v Chelsea
Glad to see a rematch of last year's FA cup. City's gonna win the league and Champions League again, aren't they?

In other news, a game between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce was pretty intense and Fenerbahce came away with a 3-2 win on the road. This was a battle between 2nd and 3rd but this is now a 30 point gap so it shouldn't have been that big of a deal.
(Highlights)

Anyways, the Turkish people are def camel fuckers so the fans of Trabzonspor decided to storm the field and attack the Fenerbahce players afterwards.

Christian Streich, current coach of SC Freiburg, will end his stint at Freiburg after this season. Now you may wonder why this is newsworthy so here are a few facts:

He started as u19 coach at Freiburg in 1995, became assistant coach in 2007 and finally became head coach in 2011. So 29 years of being in different coaching positions and 13 years of being head coach at one club only come now to an end.

He took over for the 2nd half of the 2011/12 season when Freiburg was facing relegation and saved them. In 2014/15 Freiburg then got relegated to 2nd Bundesliga but came immediately back; with Streich as coach. Since he consildated SC Freiburg as mid-table club and lead them step by step into European competition.

His biggest achievements with Freiburg where leading the club in the DFB cup final in 2021/22 and ranking the club 5th in Bundesliga last season. That doesn't sound that much but to give you an idea; Freiburg is a city with only ~236k residents.

That's how Freiburg looks like.

That's their stadion with room for only 34.700 people.

When Streich became assistant coach in 2007 it was bc their former coach Volker Finke and his team left the club. Finke was their head coach for 16 years. He even went down with Freiburg to 2. Bundesliga and up again three times.

End of an era. He is one of the last genuine personalities in German sports. Hope he gets a statue build in front of the stadium. True legend and all around good guy.

Notts Forest docked 4pts for their Financial Fair Play breach and are now in the relegation zone.
Just an FYI, these points that are being docked can be appealed 5 days after the season ends. So the last match of the day excitement won't be as exciting, unless teams like Nottingham Forest and Everton can put themselves in a position where they can survive without an appeal

Police have searched the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in Madrid as part of a corruption investigation.

The operation is part of a wider investigation linked to alleged corruption in business, improper management of assets and money laundering, the prosecutor said.
Police were carrying out 11 searches on unspecified locations across Spain.

The prosecutor expected seven people to be arrested.

Spain's national men's team trained on a pitch adjoining the headquarters of the Spanish Soccer Federation as the search was carried out on Wednesday.

Spain play Colombia on Friday in a friendly at West Ham's London Stadium (20:30 GMT kick-off).

Meanwhile, RFEF staff were barred from entering the headquarters.

Reuters reported a source at the RFEF telling them the home of former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales in Andalucia was being searched.

Rubiales resigned last September following criticism for kissing Spain forward Jenni Hermoso at the Women's World Cup final presentation ceremony.

Both Hermoso and Rubiales, along with colleagues, have given testimony to the investigating judge, who has recommended the case proceed to trial.
Corruption in football? Corruption in Spain. I'm shocked, shocked I tells ya

Seems like San Marino are doing something that I always wondered why they never did...a friendly against a CONCACAF or OFC minnow (Even Asia and Africa have some they might have a chance against...) Anyway, they play against St. Kitts & Nevis.
