Bayern deserve to lose this tie if Eric Dyer is the best Center Back they can come up with.
While there is another Champions League game tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to cover the conclusion of the EFL as League 1 and 2 have finished while the Championship has one more match day to go.
Championship
Leicester City have won it thanks to beating Preston 3-0. They had locked up automatic promotion prior to that game and they sealed it off nicely, which should help Blackburn (spoilers). Ipswich won their game in hand today so they will be going up with a point or if Leeds United don't win on the final match day. As of now, Southampton have locked up 4th and Leeds have locked up at least 3rd leaving Norwich (73 points), West Brom (72 points), and Hull City (70 points) to battle it out for the last 2 playoff spots. (In case you were wondering, the GD from Hull and the other 2 are way too much to matter and West Brom have the best GD). At the bottom of the table, Rotherham are the only confirmed relegation candidate but its going to be a literal miracle and clearing a few investigations from the EFL for Huddersfield to survive. Safety right now is 48 points held by Plymouth Argyle (-12 GD). Birmingham are first in the relegation spot with 47 points (-16 GD) and Huddersfield are the second team in relegation with 45 points (-27). So while losses from Birmingham and Plymouth Argyle can happen with a Huddersfield win, it would have to be a 16 goal swing with Plymouth and 12 goal swing with Birmingham, so not likely. Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn should be safe, but Birmingham can catch both of them with a win and both of them losing. The GD also means that Blackburn (GD -16) and Sheffield Wednesday (GD -26) can't rely on that tie breaker.
Games for the final day to watch
Sheffield Wednesday at Sunderland
Huddersfield at Ipswich
Blackburn at Leicester
Hull City at Plymouth Argyle
Norwich at Birmingham
Southampton at Leeds
Preston at West Brom
In League 1, Portsmouth and Derby County both earned automatic promotion. 2 former premier league clubs now climb back up the table to sit in limbo in the Championship instead of League 1. It is a little bit of a feel good story considering both clubs were financial messes within the past 20 years or so. Bolton (3rd) are playing Barnsley (6th) in one of the playoff semi finals while Peterborough (4th) and playing Oxford united (5th) in the other semi final. Carlisle, Port Vale, Fleetwood, and Cheltenham were all relegated to League 2, with Carlisle going right back down after winning the playoff game.
In League 2, Stockport won and earned an automatic promotion along with Wrexham and Mansfield Town. MK Dons (4th) and Crawley Town (7th) are playing one of the playoff semi finals while Doncaster (5th) are playing Crewe Alexander (6th). Forest Green continue to slide into irrelevance as they go vegan and finish dead last in League 2 after finishing dead last in League 1 last year. They were 19 points off safety in League 1 last year and only 3 points off safety this year.
