Olympique Lyon won their appeal against their forced relegation and stays in Ligue 1. They are also allowed to play Europa League.

In the comments someone linked to the Chelsea sub and this post:

I will never admit it but I laughed.

Literally can't explain how Chelsea beat PSG. But its really really funny
PSG were either really knackered or underestimated Chelsea, they looked terrible.

Maresca had also stuck Reece James (who in typical fashion, didnt last 90 minutes) as a DM which really bogged the midfield down to stagnate anything PSG tried. I think the presence of a forward more capable than Jackson helped Chelsea actually do something on the counter.
Sanchez had a good game (in that none of his cockups amounted to anything) but he did make a decent save or two

It's still a crap tournament polluted with the worst yankification (Trump pulling a John Terry was funny though) that really doesnt need to be expanded to this degree, a shorter straight knockout comp would be fine.

Also who was the midget gimp on stage with Coldplay (not Chris Martin)

I looked at this as a test run for a tournament like this. I enjoyed the fact that they lowered ticket prices to a manageable rate and that non european clubs did much better than I thought. If they can figure out the Oceana team issue, I think this tournament in the 3rd or 4th iteration will actually be good

Honestly, doesn't seem too bad tbh. I think the only teams that regret going would be RB Salzburg and some of the African/middle east teams but who cares about them?

RB Salzburg is backed up by the Red Bull company. That's basically like having access to Arabic oil money. They crushed the national competetion in Austria for over a decade. They haven't won the last two seasons now (Sturm Graz won both back to back) but the project of Red Bull football as a whole has fallen off. Which had to happen at some point.

The team from South Africa is owned by a multi-millionaire, one of the richest guys in Africa in general.

I don't think we can fully judge this tournament until the 3rd or 4th iteration of this competition. I don't take the European and British views on how good this tournament might be considering they didn't take the first world cups seriously and entered the tournament in 1950 (Then got beat by Spain and the US). So the bad hits against this isn't really hurting my opinion of this

Its the constant flow of Football thats the issue. Next season starts in like 3/4 weeks, they need to learn that sports need the downtime if not only to let players rest and improve their overall longevity, but also to help keep people engaged by not broadcasting it all year round. Viewers need a break too

Its the same problem as the new Champions League, far too many games and the group stages drag on forever. That month and a bit before between the groups and knockouts was a good little break to reset for clubs and viewers. FIFA and UEFA are desperate to keep wringing every last penny out of clubs though so they'd have them playing every other day in more and more pointless tournaments if they could

Caught the end of the England vs Sweden women's match and holy shit, the absolute fucking state. A David Carradine sized choke by the Swedes capped off by possibly the worst penalty shoot-out I've ever seen. Even the fucking plebs at the BBC think it was dogshit:
