🐱 Future Star Wars Games Will Reportedly Allow You To Create Trans Characters

CatParty

In March, Disney and Lucasfilm proudly unveiled Star Warsfirst trans, non-binary characters. These are Jedi Terec and Ceret, who feature in Marvel’s The High Republiccomic, with Lucasfilm explaining that they’re “passionate and committed to broadening our representation in a galaxy far, far away.”

This philosophy now looks likely to extend to video games, as sources close to We Got This Covered tell us that future Star Warsgames will allow players to create trans heroes in their character creators. If it comes to pass, it’ll be a nice bit of inclusivity, especially as the vast majority of contemporaries stick rigidly to binary genders (with Saint’s Row being a notable exception).

The obvious candidate for this feature is Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world game. The team behind The Division series is currently hard at work on delivering a Star Wars RPG, with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot describing the project as “an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.”

Both games in The Division franchise have deep character creation options that allow you to tweak almost every aspect of the way your avatar looks, so it’s a no-brainer to bring in trans options.

This is all a long way away from Star Wars: The Old Republic, which in 2012 saw a low point in LGBTQ representation with the planet Makeb. Dubbed “the gay planet” by players, it was the sole location in which players could flirt with characters of the same sex. This quite rightly led to criticism of “digital segregation” and the whole thing backfired tremendously.

Let’s hope we see more of Ubisoft’s as yet untitled game soon. Anyone who’s played Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will know that there’s nobody in the business who can create open-worlds quite like Ubisoft, and if they manage to let players insert themselves into Star Wars they should be onto a winner.

But.... I thought that troons just wanted to pass as the sex/gender they think they are.
If you're an MtF, would you not just play as a woman?
This. I've never understood the idea of 'representation' in escapism. The whole point of consooming fantasy bullshit like this is that it isn't the shitty real world where your undiagnosed mental illness has led you to desecrate your own body and sanity. In this fantasy world you actually get to 'be' a normal chick, so why would you choose to be the freakish abomination instead?

Because a society that has mastered faster-than-light travel, psionics, laser technology, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, antigravity (and artificial gravity) would find rewriting genetic code difficult.
As I pointed out in one of the gaming threads, troons aren't men who want to be (or believe they are) women.
They are men who want to be troons because this grants them a unique, special snowflake, victim status.
Fantasy setting? Magic can easily make you whatever gender you want.
Futuristic sci-fi? ditto.
Cyberpunk? George Alec Effinger was writing settings in the mid-80's where a complete sex change was so easy and affordable that people would change just for shits and giggles.

The troon is inured to all reason. Call him a pervert, a mentally ill man in a dress, a narcissist, and watch as he runs to Twitter for validation.
But offer him the opportunity to match his reality with his claimed desires- a seamless transition- and watch as he shrinks back: "I've been found out".

Do you guys not know that this already happened with the character creator in Star Wars Squadrons last year? There is no gender restriction to the combination of bodies, heads, and voices. Furthermore, male and female parts are not labeled as such, but rather as "B" and "A" respectively.

Unless I can make a big dicked futa chick, I am not impressed.
Also, as other has already said, ain't the point of being transgender, that you are going from one sex to another!? What is the fucking point then of a transgender option.

Alright, what have we got here in our amazing fantasy world?
  • Whites
  • Blacks
  • Asians
  • Metal humans
  • Head-tail humans
  • Spikey head humans
  • Tiny red eye humans
  • Sand humans
  • 173,000 species of amorphous blob
Hmmmm, this list doesn't seem complete though. But what could it be missing? Ah, I know!
  • Insane men who have cut off their dicks
At last. Total representation.

Isn't the whole point of being a tranny that you want to be the opposite gender? Why the fuck would you willingly want to continue being a wig-wearing botched plastic surgery victim in an escapist fantasy setting that gives you the option to be either gender?

Also imagine making a game set in a whole universe full of thousands of races, species, cybernetic options or droid forms to choose from, and the only thing they give priority to is how ugly you can make yourself in character creation and how you can better reflect the disastrous mess that is real life in an escapist setting. What's next? Mask options and quarantines in a galaxy far far away as everyone is fucking dying from a plague and entire systems getting shut down due to bankruptcy and that you can only play as a quarantined character playing a game within a game?

I’m surprised no one mentioned yet that the idea of gender in Star Wars having binary being bullshit ACTUALLY making sense in this universe. There’s so many aliens with different gender norms, ideas, and sexual organs that there could be many interpretations of what things are and what they do.

Like this could be the dream of those people to vent their identities, and even as someone who isn’t a fan of it, the concept of biological structure being different from us affecting their social structure is interesting.

But naw, let’s just do Trans, even though people who are trans would just choose the character who is male or female according to what their brain is wired to want.

The lack of imagination here is astonishing.

I am so burned out on Star Wars.
I haven't been genuinely excited by Star Wars since I saw The Force Awakens. Dead, gay franchise.
If I make a female character and say its male, isn't that the solution to trans character creators?
There must be a visible feminine penis (with Havok physics!) or else it's transphobic.
