I don't get the constant need to try to make American versions of British comedy. They're too different and just don't work. IT Crowd is a good example. Just let amerifags enjoy British shows and stop trying to constantly adapt it.

Dobby is such a "lovable" creep, but reverse the roles and it just doesn't work.

Peep Show is not only massively male, it's also uniquely British.

American comedy just doesn't have the ability to work in irony and self depreciation in the same way British ones do. See The Inbetweeners.

Even as a filthy argie I find Brit comedy much more appealing.

I somehow missed this horrible news when it was announced early this year.

This is going to be godawful for reasons others have already outlined. Unless they transform the concept into something so different it shouldn't even be named "Peep Show," it will bomb horribly.

My guess is that they're going to take the "first person" format and try to be somewhat as self-deprecating as the OG show is (in their own 'murican way), but it'll fail.

Also... Super Hans is fucking awesome. Another reason why I think they can't have anyone not even close to being as funny as him.

The Doctor and Sherlock, especially Moffat's versions, are quip incarnate. American stand up comedians are often absurdly self deprecating, and sitcoms are absolutely being made about horrible lower middle class nitwits. Seinfeld, Married With Children and It's Always Sunny are a few examples. I don't know where that comparison came from. American comedy at its worse is loud, obnoxious and unfunny. British comedy at its worse is boring, smarmy and unfunny. Both are becoming increasingly prevalent.

and by "watered down" I mean that you can watch an entire ep of Broad City and laugh at how silly the characters are
With Peep show you start watching, then halfway trhough it you get too much second hand embarrassment and have to pause and relax a bit, and while watching you keep laughing while at the same time having a very uncomfortable feeling that this hits too close home too often
