For as mature as this is, Nova, you absolutely do not know how she feels.

Put aside everything you know about Tophia. She just woke up one day to find her brother dead and her mother nearly dead from a gunshot wound, with no warning or anything of that sort. Very few people can “know how that feels”, and I doubt Nova is one of them. We have all lost somebody, but very few of us know how losing somebody in that way actually feels.

It’s a very minor thing to get upset about (especially because by Nova’s standards this is the most mature and virtuous thing he’s ever done), but it’s just such a socially retarded thing to say in this situation.
