What's really sad about it is that this was the lead writer's last project before their death.

It is a truly ignoble thing. They never get to finish the story they had going over several games with Suikoden 1 to 3, now this.

There's a lot of (probably) liars shilling for this game by saying he approved of the localization's quality, but I assume at best he just gave it the greenlight without really knowing much about it.

Other titles that had touch-the-girl gameplay included Criminal Girls and Mary Skelter.

Shit, Mary Skelter has that annoying mechanic too? I keep meaning to play it further than the opening but that information isn't helping. At least, iirc, MM let you skip it (though it may have cost in-game currency?).

It was, almost entirely to my knowledge (until now), kept out of their games rated below T at least. And I'm also pretty sure it was exclusively NoA at fault, but who knows if that changed or not now too (depends on what the Jap version says in that scene).

I'm running off memory here (having never directly played the original). IIRC it's something like the board game Operation, where they're in their psycho blood-transformed state with claws etc, and you need to transform them back. (I assume you're attacked/killed if you screw up.)
So less "fill the meter on this nude woman" like Criminal Girls or Gal Gun, and more "gently stop the psycho".

when the zeitgeist changes, and it will, the amount of edge and namecalling will be off the charts. can't wait for the inevitable "triggered like a WoW dev" or "oversensitive blizzard designer" make it into some game's fluff or ingame text.

Part of the reasons publishers are panicing right now is that 60% of zoomers and gen alpha are playing games more than a decade old instead of new stuff. That's zoomers and gen alpha, who don't have the nostalgia goggles that millenials and gen-x have for old consoles, so I can only speculate how many of those have gone back.

I can only speak for myself, but I haven't played a new AAA game since Resident Evil 2 Remake, or the Quake 2 Remaster if you consider that "new". And most of my friends are similar.

If you'll look at streaming services too, a lot of the new shit isn't even gelling well with this demographic. Older TV Shows and movies are getting the views rather than any of the new shit that's being produced now, and honestly, that does give me a little hope, but I'm still not optimistic enough that anything will change until one of the big three finally grows some balls and tells Blackrock to fuck off. I'm only 40, and I don't see that happening in my lifetime, so I'll be just content with playing older games, and the games that I grew up with until I die. Remember. We don't need them. They need US.

Do these gender studies morons not realize it's still just picking between two binary genders? Especially since the majority of the games will still call you he or she depending on your choice of "A or B".

I don’t think AI translation is good, per say. It’s just better than the slop localizers push out.

If you’re talking about the issue with My Deer Friend Nokotan, it seems the consensus is changing from it being AI translated to just having been translated by people who didn’t know English very well and who were in a rush.
