Nothing will EVER be more peak than the Dreamcast was. The Dreamcast was SEGA's last true hurrah.

Not only did it have the best memory card of all time, but it also had a library of hits, Seaman, and being the first console to have internet.

That's the best part: I actually did.

The problem was unlike today, people back then didn't see why it should need more hardware or additional costs in general. Which is a valid opinion to have. Today customers will accept 3.5mm being taken away from phones or products not shipping with a charger and just the cable. The Game Gear would have thrived if the market back then was as gullible as now.

Sonic Adventure looked insane, even if it didn't age perfectly, to put it nicely.
Sonic Adventure ages fine, it doesn't age worse than certain other games do. The same niggers who say that dismiss criticisms of Mario 64 and Zelda OOT aging. They all don't age well in aspects but that's all early 3D games.

I barely played Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast properly and it's been decades, which is supposedly the best way to play it, and most of my play has been on what seems to largely be the worst version (Steam), but I think it's still a fair enough approximation of the game to say it needs a remaster.

SM64 has the same problem SA does, bad camera, but OoT's camera is perfectly functional, probably because the game is more forgiving by its nature due to being a slower paced genre. The physics are also a little wonky in both.

I never got the hate for early 3d polygons. Shit like Virtua Fighter where everyone looked blocky always had a certain charm to me.
I agree 100%, I actually love the 5th gen aesthetic. Virtually Fighter in particular doesn't look very good to me, it looks silly, but the vast majority of games aged just fine visually. Resident Evil, Zelda, Pokemon, Mega Man, etc look excellent.
 
Why are they re-releasing Persona 3 again?
Not surprising they censored the hell out of it, Persona is yet another globohomo friendly franchise whose target audience are white piggus now. SMT is probably next.

The problem with shitty localizing is that people react the only other way to do it is just straight translations, which isn't the way to do things. This results in honorifics being used everywhere (it can't just be Mr. Xarpho, it has to Xarpho-san) and lengthy translator's notes.

One of the best localizations is actually the SNES EarthBound. You can say that there's censorship since Ness is in his pajamas in Magicant instead of in the nude, but it makes a little more sense in the Japanese version since nudity represents innocence.

The question about the Beatles song in Onett ("OK, pop quiz! 'A Beatles song, XXXterday.' Can you fill in the blanks?") with your options being YES or NO in Onett was good because it was a good pun and worked with Itoi's love of Beatles music. In the Japanese version it was a question about Heidi, Girl of the Alps and still was a Yes/No pun.

In Super Mario RPG, most of the Psychopath thoughts were changed. A lot of them weren't well localized but you could see why they needed to be changed.

The crab, Crusty, says "To~re tore pi~chi pichi", which roughly translates to, according to Tomato, as "fresh-caught and lively" but it's a reference to a seafood restaurant chain in Japan's commercials.


If Super Mario RPG was released just a few years later, it would've actually made sense to do something like a SpongeBob reference instead.

Nobody is saying that translations have to be one-to-one machine translations of the original Japanese script. Fooly Cooly is considered to have one of the best translations ever, despite all the changes that had to be made to localize it to an American audience. What people want is a script that's accurate to what is said in the Japanese, at least in spirit. People don't want the translators to insert their personal politics, or basically turn the English versions into an official abridged version because the script resembles nothing of the Japanese script.
 
You aren't familiar with the lastest SMT are you? The main character is literally a crossdressing faggot. I know anime/manga has trap stuff but it seemed weird to make the main character that.
Did they release SMT6 or are we talking about 5 or one of the side games? I think you might be referring to the poorly received soul hackers 2 but I did not pay attention to that one in the slightest. Enlighten me

Not really. It's not egregious but they made some feminism-inspired tweaks to Paula, and actually considered going further than they did with that. I'd rather the localizers not try to change anything unnecessarily, certainly not ideologically, even if it's relatively slight. Their job should be to translate primarily, and only rewrite things as necessary, like untranslatable puns, but keeping in spirit of the original content.

I think a reference to a seafood restaurant chain in American commercials would be more appropriate if applicable, not a Sponge Bob reference.

It's crazy how simple it is to be a good localizer and how much cope these dipshits and their defenders throw out to try and look good. It's very fucking simple.

1. Don't put in retarded Reddit memes where they weren't present before.
2. Don't put in any sort of political message that wasn't already present.
3. Don't drastically change what a character is saying, keep the spirit of the dialogue.

The only real examples of changing dialogue being necessary I can think of is if it's some sort of Japanese pun or wordplay that simply won't translate to English or like with JoJo and the Stand names needing changed due to legal reasons.

Remember how Sega America convinced them to cancel the release of "boring RPGs" like Shining Force 3 and Grandia and "lame 2d games" like Marvel vs capcom 2 and swore Congo The Movie: The Lost City of Zinj would be the beloved hit release people actually wanted
Remember how they assured them Aliens Colonial Marines was going just fine and they should definitely invest all their money in it?
But no, fine, let them ruin everything yet again even while Hyenas losses are still being counted and tranny localizers are ruining PSO2, a franchise they made billions with in japan alone.
