It's an unnecessary quirk but I'll take it any day over the bizarre, awkward new localizations that avoid referring to gender whenever possible.
I'll also take silly bong accents over the Koji Fox Ye Olde Englishe Pube bullshit any day at least it's just an attempt at an accent more than his retarded mealy mouthed idea of Shakespeare

Yeah, ideally we'd just get straight translations, but I guess that's too much to ask.

This just strengthens my desire for a Shrek RPG.

Yeah, I found some real hidden gems among the library, too bad there's so little documentation or coverage of them. There were some turn-based Resident Evil games which were very cool.

I also played that Garfield RPG, it's actually halfway decent, surprisingly.

Ready or Not has to tone down some of its content in order to be published on consoles. Relevant part is in the quote.

Console Rating Content Changes

Throughout this console port process we've done our utmost to only make changes when they are flagged as absolutely required by our first party partners, and any changes aim to remain faithful to the original tonality of the game, so there is no reason to be alarmed.

Our age rating as it stands for console is ESRB M-rating, PEGI 18, and USK 18 to give an idea. Still, there are other game content requirements that console platforms have in order to exist on their systems, and a portion of these changes will be visible on the PC version.

If a content change was just a texture swap, we were able to apply it to console only while keeping the PC version the same as before. However, if the change involved transforming an entire asset (like adding clothing to a character model) this was less feasible.

There are 2 main reasons that these limited asset changes may be visible on the PC version as well:

1) Maintaining multiple versions of the game with different assets and system mechanics increases the likelihood of bugs to occur in future updates, and subsequent challenges keeping the game updated across multiple versions. Think lighting or optimization issues, for example (or any number of unexpected bugs from maintaining different versions).

2) If the in-game assets were not the same it would make crossplay unusable; the game content must be equal or basically equal for multiplayer to work. Different versions of assets affects multiplayer replication, which is the ability for the server to understand what’s happening in-game and host players in the same lobby/server.

Dismemberment (aka Gore)

Player-induced dismemberment still has a large presence in the game, but is a little more limited as to when it occurs: when alive enemies are shot they can undergo dismemberment, however once they are dead no further dismemberment occurs. (Note: The level of dismemberment itself when it occurs was not actually toned down). Ultimately, we consider this an okay compromise considering our gameplay design already dissuades use of lethal force anyway.

Lastly, some character art involving torture were tuned down slightly to be less over-the-top. For example, the tortured police informant on Narcos is still missing fingers, eyes, and covered in fresh wounds and blood, but a little bit less so.

Nudity

Some instances of explicit nudity for a handful of civilians and one suspect (Gerard’s ghillie suit only scantily concealed himself) have been covered up a bit more.

Explicit Representations of Violence/Mistreatment against Children

Although we already make a substantial effort to present mistreatment against children in the game in a responsible way, we made slight thematic expansions of this philosophy in order to better meet certification standards. For example, the child on “Twisted Nerve” has had an animation change to be unconscious/sleeping, instead of the previously convulsive animation from before that had a violent appearance.

The changes with the console version are small enough that most people here wouldn't notice if we didn't say anything, but we want to be transparent. It's largely just evidence and nudity that's altered, and the texture changes don't affect the PC version.

The texture changes on console are just small things that make the evidence in levels more like hints that connect with other evidence in rather than something practically screaming 'this is illicit child stuff happening!' However, the player can easilly connect the dots based on the other evidence in the level.

This is probably one of the more extreme examples from the Streamer level, left side is PC version of the game (and will remain as such), right side is console version of the game. There is still a bunch of other evidence in the room that connects to show what's going on.

It's Fire Emblem Engage. The English script goes way out of its way to try and remove even the most subtle hints of sexuality, romance, or even comments about physical appearance from all of the dialogue. And since the game is total weebtrash where the cast fawns over your self-insert and you there's many you can choose to get with romantically, the result is complete retardation.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! games on the late GBA and DS do that and use the censored Western card art across all versions, and it's kind of annoying if you're playing the Japanese version. They started doing that with the Nintendo handheld games because they're supposed to be totally compatible with each other across all languages because they were used in official video game tournaments that were held alongside the normal TCG world tournaments from I think 2003 to 2011.

Literally what is the point of having all those waifus in a game if all they want to do (thanks to translation) is friendzone you? What are they afraid of? Upsetting gendies? I remember there was an FE game with a head patting mini game that got cut because of some censorship nonsense.

The one with the head-patting game was Fates on the 3DS. It had such an awful, Reddit-y translation that even people who didn't normally get upset over localization stuff were noticing something was up and I think someone even made a fan translation soon after the official translation came out.

There's no images to show it off, but Fates' localization also had some fuckery with the romance as well. Your main character could get with any other character of the opposite sex, and that was untouched in the English version, but Fates also lets you play match-maker with most of your other characters and you can recruit their kids via magic time dilation pocket dimension bullshit. Your own kid, Kana, is the opposite gender of your main character and can also possibly get with many of the other child characters. Your daughter's romances are untouched, but the English version for whatever changed the dialogue so your son get friendzoned by all but one potential romantic interest. Sometimes in kind of meanspirited ways too from what I remember.

The entire Fire Emblem series in general seems kind of cursed when it comes to English translators just writing whatever the fuck they want. Fates and Engage get the worst of it, but I've seen multiple questionable stuff in Awakening and Three Houses. FE7 on GBA at least has one ending slide say the exact opposite in English as it does in Japanese. There's one major part in Radiant Dawn where the English version straight up rewrote a villain's actions in the previous game to give it a different explanation. And a fan translator for at least one of the SNES games inserted his fan fiction into minor NPC dialogue because he thought what was there originally was too short and boring. I think that was also the same guy who fan translated TearRing Saga, a spiritual successor to Fire Emblem by the same director, who it turned out rewrote a bunch of the game including completely changing a villain's motivations because he thought the original was dumb and his ideas were better.

Well, it boils down to entire EN localization industry has left-leaning political view, they inherently dislike anything related to heterosexual men or male self-insert. Despite the game makes every characters are player sexual, so even a supposed lesbian relationship between female player character and a female character is still affected.
However, if the matter involves two same sex characters beside the player, they'll try to bump it up, look at the implication.

For women, anything that talks about conventional beauty traits (fair skin and weight) or expectation in society (women are weaker than men) are changed or removed. Look at previous Genshin chivalry example last page from Magicat or well bunch of early examples here.
Another example, in Love and deep space, someone make a long list of translation differences, in one of examples in Sylus Translation Project google doc, near the end of Midnight Stealth, the blue highlight.

Reminder this is an dating sim game, the guy is expected to be helpful to the heroine.

Another one, not so important where one of players finding out, EN changes a minor NPC "customer" to a woman so entire situation becomes "customer" woman dating another woman. Not only changing text in EN, but also hiring a woman to voice act for the "customer" too unlike other languages. JP version.
I just find it's very funny since the book title is "Winning the Heart of any woman you desire..". A very appropriate book to give to a woman dating another woman.

I mean even from my previous example otome games, they aren't entirely safe from EN localization either. Not being friendzone from waifu to male gamers, but anything that is considered problematic to left-leaning will be changed or removed. For whatever the reasons, maybe needlessly more cursing because apparently players are too dumb or deaf to hear the annoyance or angry tone from characters talking.
 
LGBTQUZZY type localization is one thing, but the pictures I've seen of the new Raidou just makes no sense. They'll change the meaning of entire sentences yet not in relation to pronouns, characters, anything really.. Just for the sake of? It already feels gay as hell to read a 59 year old localization of a classic book, but to know it's some neon-haired unemployable diversity cunt? Even worse. Honestly one of the things keeping me from JRPGs. At least faggoty writing in a Ubisoft game is done by the developers.

That last example is pretty egregious because the NPC is supposed to be telling you important lore details, but who needs that when we can make candy references instead!

At least the candy references will age a bit better than the one about Sally Struthers. There was also a Courtney Love joke. It's still a hell of a lot of dialog wasted on m&ms. Magic Knight Rayearth was really overdone with this stuff though. You can skip a lot of it by just not examining any objects. But sometimes you have to. So you will have to bear with some condom and laxative jokes made by 14 year old school girls. It's a shame because it's a good game and while there's an UnWorked version and an undub so far there's been no retranslation to fix the cringey script "enhancements".

It just seems bizarre since "save the princess" tropes were always popular and most girls don't mind this stuff as long as it's not insultingly stupid. It's 100% unnecessary and it changes the author's intent. I really hope in the future things change.

most girls aren't the underfucked/hobgoblin variety most translators are, or worse some betamax soywarrior who "thinks" he knows what women want (usually equally underfucked which feeds into the sexpest/pedo pipeline).
anyone with a smidge of IQ and who isn't ideological niggercattle doesn't end up in videogame translation, so you're left with the dregs.
 
Fates has my favorite bad localization line of all time. If you side with the evil kingdom whatever they're called one of your adopted sisters is named Elise.

I'm not sure exactly how old she's supposed to be but she looks around ten or so.

If you play MaleMC you can romance her which I guess bothered the localizers because they added this line which is so hilariously grammatically incorrect and incoherent.

"Elise why don't you act like the age that you don't look like but technically are?"
 
Apparently the Ready or Not developers have censored the PC versions of the title based off of the console censorship. They have doubled down on it, given the fans a big middle finger, and it seems the community is pretty much universally giving them the middle finger now. From what I gather, there's less gore, dismemberment, and significantly toned down depictions of the horrors of human trafficking and drug use now, which goes directly against the gritty, realistic, almost horror atmosphere the game had. Apparently reviews on Steam are becoming heavily negative as a result, with many people angry that PC users are forced into playing baby mode just so the devs can try to get console sales.

I never checked it out because it sounded too visceral for me, and now I definitely won't because I refuse to support devs who betray their fans for shekels. I am hoping the console port fails miserably, but we shall see. I have been seeing more and more gamers opposing censorship in recent years, so I would like the game to fail to set an example.
